He probably just burns more calories than you or eats less throughout the day. My wife sees me eat every night but doesn't see what I don't eat or the exercise I get throughout the day. Plus the bigger you are the easier it is to lose so if he's a big guy he can eat more than you and still lose weight, just the way things…

Pretty sure there are just more girls on this site then guys.

And eating less / moving more always works... 100% success rate. Just have to stick with it.

I exercise more than I can eat. I went for an eight hour bike ride today so that only leaves eight more hours to shove food in my face. My plan works pretty well until winter comes along or I get a job and then I am SOL I think.

Hi there, I know this won't be especially helpful but I sort of gave up on shakes making me full and just started eating real food. I eat a plain turkey burger and a big bowl of veggies for about 350 calories and I am pretty well set for a few hours. Real food is actually pretty easy to fit into the diet, it's just all the…

I hate to point out the obvious but you are probably just drinking more calories than you realize. Just because it's fruit and veggies does not mean that you don't have to count it. Plus, if your mom is bigger than you and you are drinking the same amount, she will obviously lose more weight than you. I could easily do…

Haven't really noticed that. I mostly just ride my bike around town for exercise and notice that it decreases my appetite rather than increases it. I think there is a mental aspect to it all though if you have exercise linked to food and are already hungry then it's easy to want to "reward" yourself for all the extra hard…

Pretty sure any exercise you get is good for you. I take my bike out for a ride for a few hours every day now and have dropped a bunch of weight while still eating 1700-1900 calories most days. Moving is great for the body, do lots of it!
-
It's all just estimates. Calories burned will vary from person to person, day to day. I just don't eat back exercise calories since I workout to be fit and if I am losing too much weight I can always eat a little more food.

Eat less - Move more. I know it's snarky and I sort of don't mean it to be. The only thing that causes a lasting plateau is eating and exercising at maintenance. Since you are eating and exercising at maintenance you just need to eat a little less or move a little more. I speak as a guy here when I assure you, your husband…

Hi there! Yeah it normally sucks for a while but eventually you fall into a healthy grove and it just gets easier to roll along. When I started I was eyeballing stuff and thought I was eating about 1700 calories a day on a restricted diet that left me hungry all the time. When I got a scale and started measuring things it…

Honestly I am fudging the numbers a bit. I use Endomondo to track my rides and it was reporting back crazy high numbers so I went into the app and told it I was 150 lbs instead of 235 lbs and that got the numbers down to about 2000 which based on my totally non-scientific observations of weight loss patterns over the last…

Lots of different opinions on this but before you deal with those I think you need to figure out if you are really burning that many calories or not. I'm 235 right now and ride my bike at 13 mph for four hours a day and burn about 2000 calories from that. If you are putting out that sort of effort than KUDOS! cuse it's…

That's what I figured too. Maybe you could help. How many calories does a 235 lbs guy burn riding a bike for 4 hours at an average pace of 13 mph? MFP seems to think it is about 3500, I end up putting in about a 1000 less than that. I guess you think it's lower? Maybe like 200-300 calories for the day?
-
I doubt they are all that bad for you but in general I find eating a piece of chicken or turkey to be far more satisfying.

I'm still waiting for all the negative issues to manifest from eating 1700-1900 calories a day but "netting" zero because of exercise. According to many: I should not be losing weight because I am not eating enough... I should be lethargic due to lack of net calories... My hair should be falling out... My organs shutting…

Sort of agree with some of the others, if you aren't losing weight over time you are eating and exercising at maintenance. Nothing really magical about it, eat less or move more. The only advantage the TV shows have over you is someone else weighs and measures there food and during workouts there's a person there to scream…

1200 calories isn't all that much food so it's sort of just personal preference. I find I'm much happier on 1700-1900 calories a day and that seems plenty to fuel hours of exercise. Ideally, losing weight shouldn't make you miserable so if your schedule allows it, a bit more exercise really helps keep the calorie goals…

Personally I just eat when I am hungry. Most people DRASTICALLY underestimate the amount of calories they are eating so you are probably in the right ballpark already. If you are worried about it get a food scale and weigh / measure everything for a few days and you'll probably find there's no reason for panic.

I just do cardio stuff so I never really feel the need to take one. Sort of hold the opinion that it's worse to sit on the couch all day than to walk around and move, but that's just me. If I was doing strength training I would definitely spread those out and rest the muscles but taking rest days from cardio seems like…

Love the idea. I have this fear of artificial sweeteners though. Irrational but there it is. My smoothies are way more complicated and far more caloric. 3 ounces mixed berries 2 ounces strawberries 2 ounces pineapple 2 ounces banana 1/2 cup carrot juice 1/2 cup apple juice And then add enough ice to make a 32 ounce…

There's really no such thing as a plateau in my mind. If you someone stops losing weight for a decent amount of time then they are eating and exercising at maintenance. If they want to lose weight they just need to eat less or move more. The only real exception to this is short term stuff like water weight or obvious stuff…

When did I suggest that the OP eat foods to make up for my caloric deficit? I was talking about my caloric deficit. I would rather not eat the thousands of extra calories a day allotted. As her post expressed concern over a few hundred calories, I was attempting to offer some perspective from my experience thus far. Do you…

Yeah I normally eat between 1700-1900 calories a day and burn between 1000-3000 a day. I ride my bike a few hours a day and keep getting better stronger faster so any ill effects of eating well and getting lots of exercise are taking a while to manifest. For me, in my situation, if I were to eat back the extra 1000-3000…

I wasn't even offering advice, I was just pointing out that I burn more calories than I eat every day and that for me it doesn't make sense to add those calories back into my diet. I personally don't see the point of eating a bunch of food I don't want when I'm not hungry and need to lose some weight. Some people do like…

How big would my bowl of vanilla ice cream with peanut butter and granola mixed in need to be to get to 2000 extra calories? Bacon was just my idea, I figured I would burnout on ice cream after the first 1000-1500 calories.
-
I don't eat unless I'm hungry. I burn a few thousand calories a day riding my bike around and don't quite get the logic of eating a tub of ice cream and a pound of bacon everyday to lose weight.
-
Personally I find if I eat a reasonable amount so I'm not hungry, 1700-1900 calories a day for me, I can burn 1000-3000 calories a day and still feel dandy. It's a personal preference sort of thing. If you aren't feeding your body properly you'll feel pretty bad pretty quick.

So for me there are two big things about restricting calories that can make life suck; being hungry and not getting as much sugar. Being hungry is actually pretty easy to take care of. I have big servings of lean protein and veggies without all the breads, sauces, condiments and sides leaves me more than full. My average…

Hope that keeps working for you. When I started guessing at my portions I found I was only 25-40% off, nearly always underestimating the size of the food I was eating.
