  • That's a lot of calories. I weigh over 200 right now, and if I were maintaining, I would need to eat less than your calorie limit. A friend of mine is a personal trainer and went from 180 to 136. Her maintenance calories are about 1300 and she works out several hours per day. Sadly, once we've been big, we will usually…
  • Good shoes make all the difference. I've also found that walking with the goal of 'going somewhere' is much more enjoyable than randomly toodling around. Walk to the post office, the library, walk down a country road, etc. Pack a snack and walk to a park, eat and read a book, walk home, etc. I try to plan a long hike here…
  • Is he eating at work? A good friend was concerned her husband was not eating much at home, but he didn't like the 'healthy' meals she was preparing. Turns out he'd stop for McDonald's before work, go out for a meal with his co-workers after, or eat in the break room at work rather than at home.
  • Eating one meal a day is not harmful in and of itself. The 'eat small meals constantly all day' that we've been told is not necessarily necessary or even the best choice for many. He's basically practicing 'intermittent fasting' which can have some health benefits, so eating one meal wouldn't necessarily be a bad thing.…
  • It's not all fast food. We live in a small town in the middle of nowhere, 20 miles from a town big enough to have a fast food restaurant. You know what? People are fat here, too, and most don't eat out more than once or twice a month. It's processed food and too much of it due to the expense of fresh foods in a tiny…
  • That's still a decent weight loss for a month. Log your foods again and move more and it will keep coming off. It's normal for weight to come off rapidly to start when one is bigger, then slow down as your new weight requires fewer calories to maintain.
  • The floor probably isn't level. Find a piece of wood, use a level to shim it so it is level and won't rock, and set your scale on that.
  • Because it's intimidating, time-consuming, and some people just don't want to do it. If he's successful without it, then don't worry over it. If he can't lose and gets frustrated even though he's doing the right thing, then weighing is the next step to see if he's overeating. I think it is also a valuable skill to be able…
  • I'm wondering if your problem is that you are eating too few calories. I'm starting my third week of 5:2 and seeing good results-- but I make sure to eat at least 1500 calories per day on my 'feast' days and a few days it's been more than that! I have a couple of good friends who have been doing 5:2 for a year and have…
  • Greetings! I have 100 pounds to lose too-- my first goal is to get to 170; at that weight I looked and felt pretty good, and I was able to exercise without my knees hurting. I've been overweight nearly my entire life. I kept making excuses for myself that I had too much to lose and it would take too long and I wouldn't be…
  • We tried it, but the costs of a variety of fruits and veggies was insanely expensive.... something like 20-30 dollars a day, especially in the winter. Completely unsustainable for us. We do juice for breakfast on the weekends, but do that more for nutritional benefit than weight loss, and it is a good way to use up garden…
  • - cardiologist and a myriad of tests, including monitoring for several days to weeks - endocrinologist - chiropractor (when my back is out of place, my heart rate goes sky high. Adjustment, and it's fine again) - consider panic attacks/anxiety - have you had your blood sugar levels tested? - do you have symptoms of GERD? -…
  • I'm sorry you are having a rough time! Perhaps your food was high in salt? I know if I'm not careful about eating, I tend to consume a lot more salt than I thought and it sabotages my weight loss due to water retention. Carbs can do the same thing if I eat too many of them.
  • My weight gain started with the pill, and it does hinder weight loss for some. For me, that was worth it for not having agonizing cramps 3 weeks a month. Sometimes changing brands or types can help. Please visit with your doctor.
