I've only recently starting running (and in VFF of all things!) so my calves get really really tight. I bought a 'The Stick' roller and it definitely helps me bounce back to full, non-stiff mobility after a run. Self massage is purported to help increase circulation and break down lactic acid (source of much soreness)…

If ginger didn't help I'd try it, but as it is I'm reluctant to spend 5-15x the money on something chemical when a natural herb works just as well. :)

I doubt it -- 10 calories throughout the day is hardly enough to remove your body from a ketogenic state, even if all 10 were from carbs. I'm sure the effect it has on insulin and everything else that's affected by fasting is negligible. I'd be more worried about the caffeine content and its affect on your heartrate and…

I wear my Vibrams to work! My boss OK'd it, and my feet are in heaven. Check http://www.vivobarefoot.com/us/ -- I've heard good things about them and I'm looking into getting a pair for my next 'walkaround' shoe for when I don't want so much attention -- my vibrams are bright green!

yikes -- glad I keep my water bottle with me 24/7! I generally end up drinking something like 10 cups a day without even trying. I really notice a difference in my general well being as compared to my pre-hydrated days.

Oh! Something I forgot to mention earlier -- when eating a lot of bulky, fibrous foods I can sometimes have real issues with gas... more so than other people, even. I've started taking 1g of encapsulated ginger twice daily and found it really helped my digestion / relieved my gas.

I lost 70lbs a few years ago simply by counting calories and walking -- it worked! I will say that I slightly regret not adding in more interesting forms of activity. Working out on the elliptical and doing some light resistance training would have helped me tone up a little more while still losing, I think. Maybe add in a…

Yeah, I don't entirely trust the numbers either (mainly because I wake up in the morning, login to MFP, and already have a 300 calorie adjustment just from my sleep/walk to the computer?! I'm a super active sleeper?). Anecdotally, I typically think it's safe to eat about half of them back and still maintain weight loss. If…

I have an elderly coworker who is vegan and in amazing shape -- she's strong, vibrant, and always full of energy. She fasts one day a week, every week. Not for weight loss or anything in particular, just to fast. Anecdotal experiences like those and also the amazing historical precedence of fasting (especially in various…

I've found a combination of lots of water throughout the day, a breakfast cereal consisting of uncooked rolled oats, and lots of bulky, fibrous greens (e.g. kale, lettuce) to work quite nicely with my digestive system. :)

Hunter Parrish, plz!

That's incredible for 14 days! I've been going to the gym 7 hours a week for the past three weeks and haven't even noticed that much of a difference. I might look into these DVDs :)

Yes! :D

I love mine, too. It's super easy to use -- even moreso than most non-internet connected pedometers. I love the historical graphs on the website (it's cool to see correlations between diet, sleep, and activity levels)... and also the leader-boards. I already gifted one to a friend so we could 'compete' with our daily…

What a great feeling! *highfive*

@engineman312, yup, the VFF Bikila LS. My calves are on strike, but my shins and knees are thanking me! Thanks for all of the encouragement, everybody! I can't wait to pick up the distance.

You can add the workouts manually, much like MFP, but it doesn't automatically track anything other walking/jogging/running automatically.

Quinoa Basmati Greek yogurt (w honey usually) Clementines or other citrus Mixed nuts Bulk cereal from Whole Foods (tons of protein and fiber) Lots of fresh veggies... depending on what's in season.

(I'm 5'8) HIt 222 when I was 16. Said enough was enough, and within a year dropped to 135. Since then I've started and quit smoking, switched from a job where I was on my feet all day to a desk job, moved to a city with with amazing ethnic restaurants, and started cooking more. With all of those factors in the mix, the…

I used to be super addicted to diet coke... I'd finish 3 twelve packs in a week. I quit soda (and caffeine) altogether a few weeks ago and feel immensely better. Caffeine was making me tweaked out, unknowingly, throughout the day, and I actually had *less energy*. Since quitting, I've saved so much money, and feel so much…

Sorry to break it to you, but if you have a standard sized 1.5oz shot of any 80-proof alcohol, you're ingesting about 100 calories. Alcohol itself is very caloric, so it doesn't much matter which type of liquor you're drinking. (1 gram of alcohol = 7 calories... whereas 1 gram of protein or carbohydrates both are 4…

The more stretching the better! I've quickly learned your shins and calves are very closely related.... if the latter isn't stretched it, it isn't provided enough support for the first.

It's so addictive! I just got mine Saturday but I've already developed numerous OCD-ish traits to help me hit my step, stair, and distance goals daily. I ordered one for my best friend, too, so we can compete with eachother :D

I have less to lose and 1200 is next to impossible for me. I'd recommend closer to 1600. (When I was 220 and dropped to 140 my goal was at about 1600 per day.) If you can eat under 1600 and comfortable that's great, but if you try to go too low it's easy to get discouraged and give up.

Clementines! They're small and only 40ish calories or so, but really satisfy my sweets cravings. I'm averaging 3 a day :)

What's your setup for the rice cooker? I recently got a Zojiroshi, and am positively in love with it for cooking basmati (on a timer? so it's hot and fresh when I come home from work?!), but would love to try steel cut and rolled oats in at, as well. :)
