As long as your cheats aren't too extreme (don't just throw *all* moderation out of the window), one day a week definitely shouldn't stop your progress. Try it, though! See how your body reacts. One of the big challenges for dieters is to be able to find a nutritional profile they can adhere to without feeling unsatisfied.…

My secret goal is to be able to take my shirt off in public without feeling intensely self-conscious. =s

What physical activity are you performing? For fat loss, diet is enough.. but for more transformative effects, a mix of resistance training and cardio is essential. Congratulations on your wieght loss!

I have a similar scale, manufactured under a different brand, and I love it. It's proved very accurate and consistant :) The BMI measure isn't to be trusted, but if you're careful to measure under the same conditions (hydration, etc) it can be useful to compare against itself.

Vibram.

Buy a filtered water bottle (camebak makes a nice one) and simultaneously save your wallet and the environment!
-
Haven't tried to freeze it, but I do know from experience that homemade pad thai refrigerates and reheats well :)

Definitely do that -- the monitors on machines are notoriously ineffective when you're running or jogging. Does your gym have any of the handheld monitors? They're usually faster and more accurate. A personal HRM is a good idea, though.

Bacon, TV, video games, cake, most pop music, owning a car (public transit & walking woo!), traditional running shoes (Vibrams!), texting with people around that I could be talking to, and bottled water.

Nothing :p Decaff tea occasionally, but other than that... just water. :)

For a great fix-ahead, on-the-go lunch: stuff a spinach wrap tortilla with whatever fresh veggies you have on hand & hummus. Mmm! (e.g. romaine, shredded carrots, diced tomatoes, cucumber, and roasted red pepper hummus)

Hi Nate, I'm a beginning runner. I'm currently running 1 mile a day at a 10 minute mile pace, and roughly once a week doing a 'long run' of 3 miles at the same pace -- so emphasis on the beginner. My question is, what strength exercises should I be doing that would help supplement my running/prevent injuries/improve…

My number was 2940. That's way too high for me. I typically eat something like 1800 (+/-300 depending on my activity level for the day), and I'm losing just fine. I have a really hard time believing that 1800 calories a day is going to trigger 'starvation mode', especially as I've done an entire year at 1600 before (and…

Great work! :D

I love Chobani, but I don't like the sweeter berry flavors. I think the biterness of greek yogurt better meshes with fruits like pomegranate and pineapple. Also, if you get plain Chobani and mix some quality honey with it, it's amazing! I pick Chobani not only for the taste (which I love) but for the nutritional…

I went occasionally (3x month or so) last winter and enjoyed it, but when I moved to a more expensive apartment and had to cut expenses, it was one of the first to go. I kind of missed it this winter, but I'm just replacing all of the time I spent in the tanning bed with gym time and I feel even better :D

I like hard boiling eggs in advance.. I'll boil a dozen and they'll stay in my fridge all week, ready to eat!

Most appetite suppressants are also stimulants, and I generally try to avoid stimulants for heart-health purposes. (I don't even ingest caffeine any more, a very occasional cup of tea excepted) It's really a mind over matter thing -- you're capable of curbing your own appetite. :)
-
Yup, increase your activity and get your heart rate elevated substantially above baseline, and you'll see results. Be aware, though, that those results probably won't be in the form of being toned. Toning up typically requires pushing yourself that extra level, and/or using weight or resistance outside of your own body.…

Try taking 1g of encapsulated ginger, twice daily or as needed. It's cheap, and effective for both bloating and nausea. It's really helping my digestion. (Plus, ginger has all kind of other health benefits as an added perk.)

Once a week... every Thursday! :) I'm also taking upper body pictures, but have seen next to no compositional changes in the past month :/ I've had two people tell me that my face looks thinner, though, so hopefully that's true :)
-
Awesome results -- especially with your backfat. Not that you had much before, but that's a dramatic reduction! (and my most stubborn deposit :( ) Maybe I'll finally get around to starting this xD
-
I'd get a fitbit! It'll estimate your calories burned quite nicely, and give you an idea of how much you're on your feet. (And if you're like me, motivate you to walk even more :) )

I'm seven months smoke free! You can do it! Replace the ritual; I found that I loved my smoke breaks while at work more than I actually loved smoking, so for the first couple of months I would still take five minutes to go outside and clear my head... just without the cigarette in hand. If you have friends who smoke, bum…

I wouldn't say it 'helps', rather, that it's essential.

They never really go away. Just learn to live with them and take solace in the fact that faded stretch marks on a ripped, in shape body will be the last thing people are paying attention to :)
-
I can't seem to eat much more than 4500. That number occasionally happens on a cheat day (usually only if I've been drinking considerably more than normal), but it's far from a regular occurrence -- thank goodness!

About an hour away from completing my first 24 hour fast and I feel better than I thought I would! I woke up to use the bathroom earlier and had trouble falling back asleep as I was pretty hungry, but other than that it wasn't bad at all. Last night, I spent an hour at the gym on the elliptical and treadmill at a moderate…

I wouldn't! Forgive yourself, and just focus on eating more holistically today. :) For me, trying to catch up was just too frustrating... I felt deprived, and would end up blowing it even more in reaction. Worst case scenario, you have a week without losses. That's okay! You're eating more sensibly and systematically..…
