  • Wow, I so loved reading this. What beautiful memories. And to add on to what you and @birgitkwood were saying about herring...I am wondering if my love of it is somehow due to my heritage, too. (Mixed German/Scandinavian here). Not too many folks are into pickled fish here...but I like it, as I do most anything from the…
  • Calories matter, and probably a lot of people will soon be chiming in to say this, if they haven't already by the time this comment is posted. I know it's probably not what you want to hear! But are you paying attention to calories? Measuring them accurately? If not, please don't give up. Start tracking them accurately,…

  • Happy Mother's Day to all the Moms out there. Yay! CONGRATS to you on passing the 100 lb mark. So awesome. @gullagr : Awesome progress so far, too! I also loved your description of running in rain as feeling enveloped in a veil. I always felt the same way--it was special. And that reminds me--I've lost enough…
  • Don't be discouraged. It's absolutely true (and awesome) that it's not a gain. Been there recently, myself.

  • Pepper spray. I've been chased (and bitten) by dogs when I used to jog on a rural road many moons ago. The day I got cornered by a pit bull-type dog (usually chained in his front yard, but that day he was off his chain) and could not summon help due to no people in the vicinity was the last time I went out unprepared. In…
  • Monday - Check In (how are you doing? Had any successes or struggles this week-end?) Just muddling along today, it feels like. Still struggling with fatigue issues, some of which are outside of my control--but some aren't. Case in point: I stayed up til nearly 2 this morning trying to finish some online shopping before a…

  • Makes perfect sense to me. Thanks again for helping set this up for us all. I will continue posting my weekly weigh-ins on Wednesdays, since that follows with what I'm used to doing with the last challenge. Works for me.
  • @e911dispatch Congrats!!! :) Happy Monday morning, ladies and gents! Hope everyone's week AND month gets off to a good start today. I'm so happy it's May--it really feels like spring is finally here. My goal this week is to try to log all of my meals, and I will make a great effort to stay within my calorie goal each day.…
  • Hi nerdy Mom! :) Sending you a friend request!
  • Sending you a friend request. <3
  • YES. Absolutely 100% this. As pizza basically makes life worth living, I have had to accept that I must commit to becoming a workout junkie/calorie burning fiend in order to both sustain my pizza habit and fit into my jeans. Giving up good pizza, or settling for some cauliflower crust abomination, is simply not an option…
  • @pinkstarberry Hey congrats on getting the scale to move! PS--from one Claire to another, howdy! So today was my first day of the three early morning walk/jogs I've promised myself I will complete by the end of the weekend. I DID IT. Despite knowing I had a long day ahead of me, despite daughter #2 waking me up at…
  • @MermaidPrincessRach : It's awesome that you got in a nice swim! Way to go, and I hope that the muscles start feeling better soon. It's always like that following a new workout, for me as well. My Wednesday wish? Well, I'd really like there to be a break in the rain today so that I can take the kids out for a…

  • Not everyone is real big on treating themselves to nice new things. And many of us, having been overweight for a while, haven't treated ourselves particularly well for quite some time. For these folks, weight loss provides a fun opportunity to treat themselves to something out of the ordinary. Also: I know it's Monday, but…
  • Oh my yes. For my first 10-lb loss I got myself a snazzy pair of replacement earbuds for my iPod. The next 10-lb loss (currently only 4 lbs away) will be a couple new shades of summer nail polish. I think my 30-lb down reward will be a couple new novels for some light beach reading. You do what works best for you!
  • Do you like the guy? Do you like running? If the answer is "yes" to both questions, I say go for it.
  • @jam5660 -- Just want to say, congrats on your hike! I have a lot of great memories of hiking with my Dad in the Linville Gorge region. Such wild and beautiful country. I hope to get back out there one day.

  • Name: Claire Age: 34 Height: 5' 1" Start Weight (week of April 19): 215.6 Goal Weight (Saturday, July 1st): 200 (This seems a tad ambitious, since I had some motivation issues halfway thru the Earth Day challenge that prevented me from reaching THAT goal, but 200 sure is a nice round number. ) Weigh in week of:…
  • Amazing change. Your legs look a lot slimmer, too!
  • Only one more weigh-in for the Earth Day challenge left! Thank you to everyone, and especially @Nikion901 for maintaining this challenge. It's been a HUGE motivator and help to me. I am so happy to be a part of this group. You all are awesome. So here's my weekly weigh-in. Name: Claire Age: 34 Height: 5'1" Start…
  • PRICE=Protect (with wrap/brace), Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation. That kind of pain/injury is soo annoying. I dealt with it recently; it took at least a couple of weeks to resolve and--dang it--I think I've tweaked it again.
  • How cool is this?!!! Excellent work, everyone!!!
  • Yeah, it kind of jumped the shark for me at that point, too. That being said, I don't have a problem with the intensity of their workout schedules or with borderline unhealthy practices they followed while on the show. They're grown-ups, they can choose to participate or not. And I'm sure they were compensated for their…
  • Well, you speak the truth when you say the key to losing weight starts in the mind. I am still struggling with this, honestly. Even when I see great progress, there's that voice within me that keeps trying to tell me, "What's the point?" And then I fall off the wagon. And the cycle continues. I suspect I'm not alone in…
  • Wow, I like this template! It will work for me. I am in 100%. Thank you, @MermaidPrincessRach . And I like the idea of just continuing on from the current challenge, w/regard to the starting weight entry. I am so glad we have a follow-up challenge. I'll think about helping with the next one--I like the idea of sharing the…
