Sure, it can make a difference. Lots of threads on here about PCOS & losing weight. But ultimately, it's about eating fewer calories than you burn. I have hormonal issues, too. (Hypothyroidism, currently not well managed). But I lose weight when I eat fewer calories than my particular metabolism uses up in a given day. You…

I think the part I bolded in your quote may offer a clue. Solid foods really need to be weighed (grams), if you want to be certain that you're measuring accurately. (Do I really think that a slightly inaccurate calorie measurement for raw onion will entirely derail one's weight loss progress? No, but if you tend to measure…

@bapcarrier : WOW! Awesome job so far. Congrats on reaching your goal! Just checking in tonight to read the posts I've missed since last week's weigh-in (a gain for me :( ). This thread has been a big motivation for me in getting back with the program, even though I was so disappointed with myself for gaining last…

Also...congrats Birgit! What an AWESOME achievement (as in, I am in awe of what you've accomplished). Way to go.

Thanks for all the advice! And @GemstoneofHeart , that's great to hear! Congrats on the weight loss, too. @ccsernica , I think I've been tested for gout, too, but I'll ask my doc.
-
@GottaBurnEmAll Wow, I was only ever tested for RA. I didn't realize there were other forms of arthritis that would show up on a test for antibodies. Whatever I have (had?) is intensely painful, and even heavy-duty doses of Ibuprofen only take the edge off. I'll ask my doc (a general practitioner) about getting more tests…

Good lord. In the time it takes to do all that and clean the blender I could have made myself a yummy real meal. And more cheaply.

And just to add...the busiest person I know is a lady in my neighborhood around my same age. She has six kids and works as a nurse. On her days off, WITHOUT FAIL, she walks around our neighborhood with her two youngest in a double stroller. I have watched her transform herself into an incredibly fit woman by doing this…

I think it's equally challenging for either stay-at-home-moms or working moms. I've been both. Different challenges, yes, but equally tough. Ultimately, though, there are 24 hours in a day for each of us to use as we see fit. You make room in your schedule for the things that matter to you. I couldn't agree more. I have no…

Sand86802, I just wanted to say that you are doing great. I definitely "hear you" regarding your frustration...your schedule sounds really unforgiving. I beat myself up a bit for not exercising more, and my schedule isn't even as tough as yours. And cooking...well, after years of feeling guilty that I am not a born cook…

Just chiming in to say continued good wishes to all. I'm sorry to hear of the health issues some of you are facing--I'm a member of the hernia club, too. :/ Anyway, happy first day of Spring! I promised myself I'd do better with exercise this week, and I'm happy to report that I did in fact get up early and take a long…

Thanks, Nikion, for inviting me to join even though I'm late to the party! So here goes. Hi everyone. I rejoined MFP in early March, too late to participate in this ongoing Earth Day weight loss challenge, but I just wanted to chime in to say "great job" to all those in this thread. It's inspirational for me to follow all of your progress. I have 100 lbs to lose to get to my arbitrary goal weight of 129 (which…

PS...just realized you were looking for specific advice regarding calorie counting. I'm afraid I don't remember exactly what I did, nor would it likely apply to your scenario. It sounds like you are a lot more focused than I was on hitting specific caloric targets. IIRC, I actually set up my calorie goals on here to lose a…

I think it's a great idea, especially if you also talk w/your doc or midwife about your weight and exercise goals at your visits. I counted calories during my first pregnancy (in fact that was the reason I joined MFP) and I found it was a GREAT tool, not only for curbing overeating but also to ensure adequate nutritional…

Just. Amazing. Congratulations on your incredible achievement!

How long have you been restricting your calories? I find that for the first few weeks or so of drastically reducing my caloric intake, I too have little appetite. BUT (I speak from experience here) your appetite will come back, especially if/when you increase your exercise. Just be prepared for that...you don't want to…

I hate to break it to you, but ALL of our hearts are going to stop beating one day. You may choose to expend those heartbeats however you like, but speaking for myself I'd prefer to use them up in the pursuit of something that gives me great joy and personal satisfaction. In other words, by running. :)

Nicely done. :)

Here you go. AKA "Cheese Waffies." They're somewhat hard to find, so I grab a bag whenever I see them. :)
-
I'm not sure I buy into the whole "eating clean" thing, because life for me would not be worth living without wine and chocolate. And the occasional bag of cheese waffles. :) I am focused on watching my overall eating habits and in continuing to exercise consistently so that I can keep eating and drinking what I want, even…

Am sending you a friend request. :)

About to send you a friend request! I'm pretty chatty myself. ;)

Welcome! I think you're in the right place. Best wishes with your journey.

I have hypothyroidism, of the "runs in the family" variety. It's never been officially diagnosed as Hashimoto's thyroiditis, but I assume it is that. I am attempting to reverse my hypothyroidism, and so the comments about anti-inflammatory diets really interest me. Under my doctor's supervision, I stopped my Synthroid and,…

Yeah, mommyhood is crazy during the best of times, I think, and having a sick kid is...well, just awful. Thanks for the friend request, PinkCoconut!!! :)
