  • Good luck and have fun!!! This will be my 3rd season doing tri's. I am doing a half IM in May and then this summer a local promoter had a deal 3 sprints for $99 so i am signed up for all 3. That should keep me pretty busy with training. My favorite part has meeting all these fit people who are very encouraging to new…
  • Welcome, sounds like you are off to a good start. This site is a great place. Keep at it and remember one bad day isn't the end. It's just a bad day and tomorrow can be better.
  • Man that person sure gets around. He's at my house as well. I try to use my scale as motivation to keep up the hard work and making the good choices when it comes to eating.
  • Just keep going for "You" It sounds like you have a plan to me. Just ignore people that are trying to sell you stuff. Go do your workouts and have fun...
  • I am not doing a lot of strength training but here is some areas I know I should be working on. Abs once I get above 10 miles mine are sore Back I would want to work these as well Upper body/arms As I am loosing weight I would like my arms to look better. I have gone back to doing Jiu-Jitsu 2 days a week and during class…
  • I do the run/walk method. I ran 10 miles today. We run 4min. then walk for 1 minute and repeat till we finish. When I started a few years ago I was doing 1/1 Slowly over time I have increased my time and my distance while getting a bit faster. The only other thing that would help is speed work but you need to build up a…
  • I just finished my masters swim class. We swam 3550 yards tonight. I have been swimming laps about 2 years now. I used to have my own business scraping barnacles off the bottom of boats. It wasn't too much swimming but I spent many hours in the water and still have a love for it.

  • I think WOW about says it all !!!
  • I will tell you I have been running consistently for 3 years now and I have cut 15 minutes off my 5k times. I was not a runner when I started. I feel like a runner now. I have lost a lot of weight and keep training for races. I don't think the time matters as much as getting out there and doing it. The only race you are in…
  • That is one of my goals as well. I weigh myself every day and if I see a loss and then a gain the next day I use that as motivation to know I was that weight and I can get back down there. I usually wait till I see a weight for a few days before I update my profile. You have seen it is possible to get down below 200 so now…
  • I get more accurate calorie counts. As my training has progressed the numbers are lower. I have lost weight and become more efficient. If I went with the average I would think I had more calories available to eat. Plus I like knowing these numbers and tracking them over time.
  • I was on a plateau for 6 months while training for a marathon and then Triathlon season. The thing I kept telling myself was I am in much better shape then ever before. I was buying smaller clothes and looked better just couldn't get the scale to join in the program. I have finally started loosing some weight again and I…
  • Man I had to look back at the first picture to make sure it was the same guy and not a trick:smile: You are doing great!!!
  • Way to go!!! Just keep getting out there.
  • We have a half marathon that we run on Thanksgiving morning. It does make it hard to have to go home and cook. but it does help with desert.
  • I use the run walk method. It seems to work for me. An interval timer is a good thing to help keep you on track. I did my first half ironman this weekend and used this method for the 13 mile run portion. There were tons of people around me doing the same thing. I would like to be able to run that distance but this is what…
  • You are doing it the right way!!! Healthy Lifestyle change It takes longer but it lasts longer as well. A year from now you will have lost more and not be starting over again. I know it is hard. But slow and sure wins the race.
  • I did my first half marathon using the 1 min run 1 min walk for the whole thing. Being out there is what counts. I am doing a Half Ironman and will run 3 min ad walk 1 min for the 13 mile run. Just get out there and do what you are doing. The faster/longer running will come with time. And even if it doesn't I know some…
  • I am training for a half ironman (race is this Saturday) I swim 2-3 times per week. I get leg cramps from time to time. Take a plastic water bottle with you and drink during the workout. You are still sweating even though you are in the pool. You use a lot of muscles that you don't normally use. If you start to feel a…
  • Go and have a good run tomorrow. Remember you are doing this for yourself and no one else. I have been running about 2 years now and will probably never win my age group. The reason I run is to have fun and see if I can improve my times from the previous race or year. I have lost weight and my legs look great. So find some…
  • Go to a good running store and they will fit you for shoes. The store I go to will bring out several pairs and let you try them. They have a treadmill in the store and they let you go out in front of the store and try running. Last time I tried on 6 different pairs to find out I still liked the same kind. The shoes I like…
  • It sounds like you still did good. I don't know how long ago you started this journey but ask yourself in that time frame if you every thought you would be running? And in a race. Even though you are racing for yourself you still have goals. Keep training and you will make your goal.
  • Welcome, this is a great place. You can do this!!!
  • You need to go out with your friends and eat like that occasionally or you won't stick with your new lifestyle change. Just keep trying to make good choices.
  • I went a couple of months not losing a single pound and I came to realize I was eating healthier and exercising more then ever. I was in much better shape. I am training for triathlons and can swim, run and bike further then any time in my life. Yes I still have like 40 more pounds I want to lose but compared to 2 years…
  • I use a Garmin 310xt. it is pretty pricey but it is worth it to me I love looking at all the data after a workout. I used mapmyrun on my iphone and the only problem I had was battery life. My phone would only last about 1.5 hours. My garmin lasts 20 hours and is waterproof.
  • My first one was 43 min. It doesn't matter how long it takes you are out there doing it. Next month will be 2 years running/walking for me. Now I consider myself a triathlete. Not a very fast one but I get out there and do them. So get out there and do those 5k's and eventually longer races.
  • Hang in there I went about 6 months doing marathon training and didn't loose a single pound. What kept me going was telling my self that I was training and was in way better shape then I have ever been in before. I did the ran/walk method and did 26.2 miles. I have finally seen a drop in weight recently but I can run, swim…
  • I was just on face book and a stay at home mom friend of mine just posted this "It isn't selfish to take care of yourself." I was thinking wow how did she know I had just replied to a post along those same lines.
  • I am a stay at home dad with 2 kids (15,11). It has not always been easy to work out. We used to call it the CRY-MCA. Start training your kids and your husband now and it will pay off later. Some advice I was given pretty early on was to take care of myself. Make some time for you. Going to the doctor, working out, buy…
