Great job. Just keep telling yourself the part I quoted form your message. Keep up your healthy lifestyle and try not to listen to people say.

Polar seems to be the brand of choice. I have the F6 model and love it. I also use a Garmin 310xt which has the HR strap and maps my training.

Happy Birthday!!! Do something special for yourself. Get in an early morning workout and then have that small piece of cake. Once in a while isn't the problem, just get back on track after your birthday.

I am one of those people who train a lot. I am training for a Half Iron man end of October. I am also training for the MS150 bike ride the first weekend in October and we did a 50 mile ride today. This took about 3 hours. We made 3 stops and were able to chat during the stops. So, I was actually riding about 2 hrs 30 min…

just wear your ipod. You don't even have to turn it on. That way you could pretend not to hear anyone you didn't want to talk to.

Cool pictures and very nice scenery. One of my goals was to be in good enough shape to do any activity that comes up. It sounds like you are in the same boat. Keep doing that fun stuff and getting exercise in as a bonus.

I think I need to work harder. That person is working out way harder then I am. You go and do your thing The serious people are to busy to be watching what others are doing.

What do you eat before a training run and how long before do you usually eat? I usually eat a bowl of cereal at least an hour before running, and this woks for me. I wouldn't try anything new before a race. No new foods and no new clothes and especially no new shoes. HTH, Good luck in the race!!!

Your work out sounds fine. Take measurements. Sometimes the scale doesn't tell the whole story. I haven't lost a pound in a while but I have lost inches around my waist. Even had to tighten my watch band. Take those measurements, be patient and with all the training you have been doing you it sounds like you are in better…

Just get it done it doesn't matter what time of day. I love your profile picture! Very cool.

When I am making my grocery list I write the dinners on the bottom of the list. Then I post that on the fridge. Then I just look on the list to see my choices for dinner. I don't have to eat them in any order but I have done the list ahead of time so I can just refer to the list. My kids can also decide what they want on…

congrats... That is one of my goals. Keep up the good work.

I would eat what you have eaten during your training. Don't do anything new on race day. I usually eat a bowl of cereal. I like to eat at least 1 hour before running. HTH and Good Luck in the race!!!

I use the Galloway method run 3 minute/ walk 1 minute. I am able to run about a 10 minute mine pace doing this or I slow it down to about 12 minute pace for longer distances. I have done distances of up to 26 miles using this method. One of my friends runs a mile and walks for a minute. She is quite a bit faster then me…

Tell him you would be willing to try lifting some weight if he was willing to go for a run with you. I have been doing mainly cardio for the past year but I know I need to balance out my workouts by adding some weight training into the mix.

I am in. We are doing a practice triathlon tomorrow 10 min ocean swim 40 min bike ride 30 min run The club I am in is doing these once a month now that it has warmed up. They get longer as the season progresses also.
-
I usually do them all winter but now the weather is warmer I tend to ride my bike more. I usually burn 400-600 calories in a hour class. So it is a very good workout. Buy some bike shorts your but will thank you for it. It will take a few weeks to get used to the seat but then you will be fine.

The YMCA I go to has a masters swim program. They write the workout on a white board and it stays posted till the next class. Many people don't want to swim in the class for whatever reason and are still able to follow the workouts. You might see if your pool does this. Otherwise you can start swimming on your own. I would…

I usually burn around 500 calories in an hour class. It is kind of hard to give you a definitive answer since every person is different. Does you HRM have the chest strap. Those tend to be more acurate. I would say you need to do a couple classes and if the final numbers are the same and you use about the same effort then…

When you get a HRM make sure you get one with the chest strap. I look at 3 numbers when I get done working out my average HR, Max HR and how many calories I burned. I can look at my calories burned and tell if I worked harder this time then I did the last time I did a workout. Some days I get it done but not with as much…

Since you have a HRM it really doesn't matter which cycling workout you pick since you can enter how many minutes and calories you burned while on your ride. I use 2 different ones. When I go with my kids I pick the leisurely ride, and when I go to spin class or ride my road bike I go with the vigorous one. Hope this helps.

It was a fun event. You had to sign up for a time slot. They had 4-6 people in each slot. The YMCA had someone count your laps and write down the distance of the bike and the run. As much as I like swimming in the ocean it is still a little cool at 59 degrees. It was a good first race.

I am a stay at home dad and a woodworker/artist. I do woodturning.(www.asthewoodturns.com) I posted the link to my website since everyone always asks what is woodturning. I am almost always at home so food is always available. I do all the shopping so I don't buy to many treats. I do all the cooking as well so I get to…

Hello The pool I swim in at the Y has 5 lanes. The slower people tend to swim in lane 1 and the faster people swim in lane 5. When I go swimming not during a class I look to see who is swimming about my speed and ask to share a lane with them. If there is an open lane I go for that. The other thing is you may look more…

Congratulations on your new PR!!!

I would say 5 miles in an hour is a good pace. I do the galloway method of running run 3 mins. walk 1 min. We did 5.2 miles on Thursday in almost 62 min. Anway I figure 100 calories per mile. My HRM said 606 cals. So my rough estimate is pretty close. http://connect.garmin.com/activity/23958008 Click on the splits to see…

Check out the C 9 socks at Target I got a 3 pack for about $10(I think, it has been a while) The are thin socks and made with a wicking material. I just bout a pair of thorlo socks they have more cushioning in the ball of the foot and Heal area. They were $14 for one pair. But I wanted something more breathable and with a…

Way to go. My numbers were pretty close to yours. Take the camera and start going hiking out in nature not only are you exercising but you might come back with some good photos. That lens looks pretty heavy so your hiking will count extra.
