There is a huge difference between overweight and obese. Most men do not find *obese* bodies attractive- even a long time ago. What we promote as acceptable today is obesity. I don't think most people here are crying about a woman who has an extra 20-30lbs on their frame. We're talking about calling someone who's clearly…

Nah, but lying to them and trying make it acceptable so they don't have hurt feelings isn't helping anyone either. In fact, it probably does more harm than good. There is a definite promotion of obesity being "okay", especially when it comes to women. Being obese, no matter what your body type is not good for you. It's so…

It's hard, especially if I'm feeling particularly negative. I just try to remind myself that the low point is only temporary and I will feel better again. If I can't manage to find the energy to exercise (depression usually makes me feel more tired than usual), I make sure to at least track my food. It helps to keep me…

And "Dr." Oz is supposedly a "doctor" too and yet he gives terrible "advice". This is the problem we have today with a lot of people. No one questions anything. If it's on TV or written by some "reputable" media source(Oprah, HuffPo, Livestrong etc), they take it as gospel. I see my own mother falling for this crap all the…

Oh god. Here we go.

I think you're making some assumptions to fit your argument. Okay. I do agree there is a lot of nonsense here. People are different and that's fine. I don't think anyone is saying otherwise. I don't think it hurts to say that 1200 a day is probably not enough for most people. If someone is searching for reasons why they…

You did it correctly then. A lot of people do not. It's not really user error if someone doesn't know any better.
-
That isn't true. If you select to lose 2 or more pounds per week, MFP almost invariably gives you 1200 calories (as long as you aren't severely obese). Most people, regardless of how much they want to lose, will put 2 lbs as a default. EDIT - Also most people do not know what they should be eating (that's why we're all…

If you aren't a "heavy" eater, then why do you need to lose weight? Come on.
-
And that's because people have tweaked the numbers to make it work. Tell me why 1200 is good for a 28yr old woman who is 180 lbs and 5'8 and ALSO good for a 5'1, 60 yr old, 130 lb woman?? One size fits all? Why so many posts saying "Omg, I'm eating 1200 calories and not losing, please help"? Sorry but your argument fails…

Starvation mode is a myth. You aren't actually going to starve unless you literally do not eat. Your body will eventually call on those fat reserves. That's why we have anorexics. However, your metabolism will slow down after a period of time. The body realizes its not getting enough fuel and so slowly processes what it…

You never specified an activity level at all, I did. You said for "small women" it's a good number, I happen to qualify and 1200 was not enough. It was a gross over-generalization on your part.

About a month or so.
-
Please stop perpetuating this myth that all small women have to eat like birds. I fell for that too often. I'm just shy of 5'2 and 1200 was NOT enough for me based on the amount/kind of exercise I was doing. If you're over 50, under 5'4 and sedentary or lightly active it's probably fine. Otherwise, it's not. I notice all…

I would get a second opinion from a medical professional... like a doctor, *especially* if diabetes is involved. :flowerforyou: Sure OP doesn't know it all but neither does your "registered dietician". I have come to find that a lot of people are "certified" in various fields but are the furthest thing from experts. 1200…

Agree. I learned this the hard way just this week actually. So when I started I thought my limit was 1200-1400 including exercise. I'm 5'2 and have 60 to lose so I thought that was fairly typical. Wrong. I lost 17 lbs over 60 days... then I just stopped losing. My logging was on point, my exercise had actually ramped up to…

Diary looks incomplete. My guess is that meals are not being logged and you're guessing. If you really are only eating 300 cal on some days, I think common sense would dictate that it's not enough. I don't think anyone can help though because the logging seems completely inaccurate. Sometimes we have to make guesses by…

I trust my HRM for the most part. 450 for what you're doing seems way too low. I know a few people with Fitbits and I'd heard they're good for calculating daily activities but not necessarily workout sessions. According to my HRM, I'll burn between 500-600 during hour-long cycling classes but that's fairly steady state…

I dropped the first 17-18 quickly. Every week I saw a loss. This week, I lost nothing. :grumble: It's very discouraging when it doesn't happen but people say weight loss is not linear and we're all different. You will lose it, just stick with it.
-
It's okay. It was one meal and you learned something valuable from it. Changing these habits takes some time. We've all had a couple of hiccups here and there but really, one day out of many is not bad.

Really? I think he probably took this measure because she probably denied how often she said no in the past. He decided to make a sheet to prove his point. It's not passive aggressive. Btw, this guy doesn't seem entitled to me. She seems to be. Reaps all the benefits of marriage without holding up her end of the bargain.…

The serving info is usually given for raw which is why your portion looks tiny. I was making this mistake in my logging. Generally speaking, 2 oz raw = 4 oz cooked. It's not as bad as you think.

I just go over right now. I wouldn't worry about it. Just focus on making better choices in general (obviously stick with your protein intake). If there is something more specific you want to get a handle on (i.e. carbs, sodium etc) try it when you have a better handle on your diet. I can't be bothered with that stress…

Sometimes I do, sometimes I don't. I eat when I'm hungry. I almost never eat them all back though- not on purpose, it just works out that way. Oddly enough, since changing my diet to more nutrient dense foods, I find I don't need to stuff my face as often so I'm full for longer on less calories. Either way, it's not going…

You look awesome! I completely related to your story, btw... especially about not leaving the house and missing out on life because of being overweight. It's a horrible feeling.

I'm 5'2 and 33 years old. SW - 195 started around May 15th CW - 180 as of Wednesday. GW - 105 no date set I don't know that I'll actually hit my "goal" weight. It was my pre-pregnancy weight so I'm just using that. I'd be happy with 125 at this point but we'll see. I'm looking to be healthier and fit, not just thin. I'm…

I know alcohol can make you retain water.. plus, you are lifting so it could be muscle gain as well. Maybe a combination of the two. You lost weight, so it's definitely not a plateau. Cut back on the alcohol and see if you drop a few pounds. Also, try taking your measurements. What seems like a small loss in weight is…

You look amazing!! It can be hard to see ourselves but there is a huge difference in those pictures. Keep going because you are getting there!

I don't log anything that I would normally do. If I did a lot of heavy housework or was running around doing a lot during any given day, I'll just shorten my workout to 20-30 min. On the other hand, I log everything when it comes to food. I do log my vitamins since depending on what I take and how many, it could be upwards…

I think anywhere from 10-11 pm is reasonable for most people (depending on your age or schedule). Although I don't usually stick with that. 11:30-12 is closer to the time I usually fall asleep. My husband is different, he knows he should go to bed earlier but can't do it. He's never in bed before 1am, more like 2-3am…
