  • I always gain weight when I increase my miles. I think it's mostly due to water retention. If you're drinking Gaterade, that could be part of the water rentention issue as well. Add me to the list of people who wish running ten miles would burn enough calories for a large pizza!
  • I agree to some extent it's a matter of will power. However, you could have some amino acid deficiencies that cause you to crave sweets. L-glutamine and/or DLPA could be very helpful. My life has completely changed for the better since I discovered Julia Ross (she wrote the Mood Cure and the Diet Cure) and starting taking…
  • You may be thinking of thyro-gold. I know there are other options, but that's one I've used and felt it helped me when my doctor wasn't interested in raising my T3 dosage because my numbers were ok (even though I still felt like crap).
  • If you really have trouble managing cravings, you may wish to read The Diet Cure by Julia Ross (or look for her youtube videos and website). She believes taking certain amino acid supplements helps improve mood and eliminate cravings. I thought it was a bunch of garbage, but gave it a try anyway. I haven't had any sugar or…
  • I totally agree with Emma! I've failed to complete C25K more times than I can count, but I've proudly finished 13 half marathons. Some of us are just happier sticking with intervals and there is nothing wrong with that.
  • If you think you can manage the 16 min mile pace that is required, I say go for it! I know that I have one speed (slow) and it doesn't matter if I'm doing a 5K or a half marathon - I'm always the same speed. So, if you think you can maintain your half marathon pace for an entire marathon, you should do it. I might the only…
  • I got a 30 min walk in today. No exercise tomorrow, but I'll make up for it on Saturday. Those of you having trouble with shin splints might want to try KT Tape. This stuff is a miracle. I use it on my IT band and over my SI joints. I get mine at my local running store and many sporting goods stores also carry it.…
  • Does shopping count as exercise? I was walking around the mall for awhile. At lunch I'll be walking a few blocks from my office in order to buy socks because I forgot to stick them in my gym bag. Tonight I'm doing my final short run before my half marathon on Saturday. I'm looking forward to logging the 1400…

  • It looks like I was at 148.6 last Tuesday and this morning I am at 147.8 - so almost one pound gone. I ran a half marathon on Saturday and will run another one this Saturday, which means my numbers are going to be a bit messed up for about a week. I need to eat a "normal" amount of carbs the day before any run of about 8+…
  • I'm so glad I found this thread. I watched the movie Fathead several weeks ago and it completely changed the way I think about food and diet. I started cutting calories and eating low fat last November and managed to lose almost 15 pounds, but I was miserable and just starving all the time. Now I'm trying to eat about 65%…
