Ancient Harvest makes a quinoa flour and quinoa flakes. Those are manipulations of the original grain (well, fruit, for the nitpicky folks). The flakes remind me a bit of rolled oats in texture. The flour is, well, flour. Quinoa grain is a teeny ball, like others have said, about the size of couscous. When cooked, it's…

Perimeter, bulk, and less processed. If you buy chopped lettuce, for example, it's more than if you buy a head of lettuce. Processed foods sometimes seem cheaper, but when you look at the amounts in packages (like frozen chicken fingers vs making your own) you get less. Also, try to eat as seasonally as possible. Out of…

I'm not a normal student right now, but I can tell you what I did when I was in undergrad and grad school: Prep work! I bought things from the store and would freeze them. For example, a pack of pork chops I would separate into individual chops and put herbs on them. Then, when they were thawing later while I was in class,…

Most people really don't need to take a supplement, as long as they are eating a healthy balanced diet and don't have a diagnosed condition from their physician necessitating supplementation. Actually, studies have shown that the average person taking a multi-vitamin really gets no benefit from it. In some cases, it can be…

I can definitely understand the migraine thing. I had been getting them about 3 days per week. It was awful I couldn't concentrate. Ugh. I just did a little search, and I feel so stupid for not remembering this! The guy who's lab was next door to me for 3 years of my career studies sodium channels in epilepsy and migraine.…

Amen to that! hahaha

No. 1 kcal = 1 Cal. Silly thing, it's the capital letter C that people don't understand. Some physicists got together and decided to annoy people who haven't taken physics. 1kcal = 1 Cal = 1000 calories. (note one is capital c the other is lower case c) :) So, if your machine says 300 kcal, then you burned 300 Calories…

Sodium and potassium are vital to proper nerve function. Not to get too sciency on you, but that's how nerves send signals within themselves and what neurotransmitters cause to flow in/out of the cell. Also, sodium is used in water balance. Of course we've already addressed in this thread that sodium is also related to…

Just what I was going to say! I love asparagus with hollandaise. I make mine with local awesome eggs and fresh local natural butter. H.E.A.V.E.N.L.Y. Grilled rocks too. I'll do some parboiled/blanched then toss it in some yummy pasta with EVOO, butter, garlic and fresh shrimp. Or in a curry...Or in a risotto...oh the…

I have never seen these numbers. I've always seen 1500mg as the lowest that should be obtained.

Too little sodium can interfere with muscle function READ: cardiac issues.

Sodium tends to get a bad rep. Yes, it can cause water-retention. However, it is a vital nutrient in our body's functioning. Most of the studies done on sodium haven't told the whole story. While sodium intake is important to monitor, the majority of issues that have been placed on sodium have arisen from modern…

Sarcasm? People on here have been attacked for the foods in their diary when they had it public. I have mine open to my friends, only so if I had questions they would know what I was referencing. I don't think it is necessary for everyone to see what I have in there. Plus, I will put some personal thoughts on the day in…

Great big pile of suckage. :grumble: A couple cool things here and there, but for the most part, I could have skipped this year entirely. And I'm not hopeful for 2012. My life feels like a disaster after not being able to get a job in my field this past year. Never thought I would be unemployed for a year (with no…

I know this is a little late from your post, but I had a potluck I was short on time with and I made a fruit compote. Took about 30mins - most of which was the fruit cooking down so I could do hair/makeup - it was yummy and gf. :) And as for the original thing, it's being able to sleep when my bf is home! If I'm not…

Right now... it's my local dairy's egg nog. One serving is 150 cals. *drool* Otherwise, I have a childhood love that's come back: cucumber slices dipped in French (or Catalina) dressing. And I totally second carrots dipped in hummus. Awesome!

I totally agree. I'm not trying to sound special, b/c I know there are people much much much more fit and able than I am, but the things he's had me do have made me wonder about my own strength. I didn't see any other girls outside flipping a tractor tire behind the Y. Definitely makes me feel better about myself, which is…

I've been really interested in getting into CF. I'll be honest, I'm fat. But, CF is a goal of mine. I did Krav Maga for awhile and loved the less traditional type work out and have come to love the exertion from Krav. I love doing things that aren't typical girl things; I'd rather be working out with the guys. When I hit…

I totally was about to go to bed until I saw this thread. Thanks, OP, for keeping me up past my bedtime. You owe me coffee in the morning

We can't really tell you if you are doing too much. You said you feel ok after today, so then you are doing at least enough. (And if you are new to working out, you'll find that the 2nd day after the workout is when you're most sore.) It just depends on what your goals are and what you body can handle. Like the PP said,…

haha yeah, I checked the cord. I'm blonde so you never know! So I hooked up another empty unsealed bag to it and let it run for about 15 seconds (which I had tried earlier to no avail). Now it works. Guess something was blocking the vacuum that I couldn't see. Stupid technology! hahaha

Yeah...so I found out my gym pants had a hole right in the middle of the crotch...right...there. Beautiful for the hip adductor and abductor machines...or squats. Thanks bf for letting me know now, after over a year with those pants.

Attraction is the easy part, IMO. I've been in the relationship where we were super attracted, but our communication was hell. It does NOT work. When I was younger, yeah I thought attraction was important, but really as I've gotten older, I've learned that isn't the case.
-
I don't think love conquers all. I think it takes work. Especially communication and trust. My rule is having something to talk about as well. It can't just be about sex. Similarly, it can't just be good coffee talk when you are together. I also don't think that attraction should fade over time. It may change forms, like…

When I was the younger generation and it was all the rage, I still agreed that I didn't want to look like a kid. It's not something I'll ever do either. :) Y'all can remove what cha want, I care not. haha Just don't ask me to.

My habits stay about the same. I try to keep the jungle in control and legs vary. haha Especially in the winter I hate shaving my legs. If I think there could be some leg touching, then I would make sure I shave. Plus, it really helped me stay "in control" when I was dating. If I was stubbly, I knew that I wouldn't be…

I'll check em out. Thanks!

Ah Ha! I found the intro thread! Hi! I'm Jessy. I've had tummy issues for as long as I can remember and I finally figured out that gluten was the main culprit when I was working with a nutrition coach. I had had hints in my life before then, like thriving on Atkins or gaining weight after adding one slice of bread when I…
