The health complications associated with obesity, such as diabetes, CVD, hypertension, arthritis, etc., are fast becoming the most costly medical expenses for our nation. These costs are typically paid for by the state (Medicare/Medicaid) or through insurance. As the costs rise, more money is required to be paid by both…

Sounds good to me! Now I just have to start keeping track ;)

My goal was 1500 and did 2002 (and that was only 3 workouts). I didn't lose any weight though because my family was in town and so we ate out for literally every meal! My stomach is so mad at me right now... Anyhoo- what's the challenge this week? Personally, I need to commit to going to the gym more often- once I'm there,…

WHOA! That is aaaamazing!

Hi all! Sooooo after quite a while (at least a week! which is a long time for me) I was doing great. Then, today everything seemed to go wrong, and as usual, in response to my crap day, I ate, and ate, and ate. But... whereas delicious salt and sugar binging usually takes away all my woes, it totally didn't work today! No…

I'm going to aim for 1500... here goes!
-
I like it! This way it's flexible- you can do a bit each day or 3-4 harder workouts.
-
What about weekly challenges for either specific exercise goals or eating goals? Or both? This way we get some novelty with changing up week to week, plus we'll have incentive to try new things!! I for one always stick to the same exercises and I know that can easily lead to a plateau...

I'd love to join too! I think I'll do better with a smaller group. I also love challenges so if there's anyway to incorporate that, that'd be awesome!

I do the same thing. Usually it starts with me convincing myself that it's no big deal because I've been doing so good OR I talk myself into thinking it'll make me feel better (I'm a big salt eater and when I get migraines, that's all I crave). Unfortunately, like you said, it usually goes from one treat, to one whole day,…

Sweet thanks. Now if they could give me the calculation for vinyasa yoga...
-
Dunno... but that's the only list I've really been able to find. I'm not sure how accurate calories expended are in general though since it's going to vary person by person. At least it's somewhat of an estimate! :)

This is what I've used as my yoga-calories guide. http://www.elysiumyoga.com/benefits/calories-burned-in-yoga-2/ If you go into cardio, you can enter your own and the calories per hour. Hope it helps!

Wow those are some good goals! If you're going to give up something entirely (like sweets) I would make sure you give yourself some healthy replacements, like fruit and yogurt, otherwise you might end up sabotaging yourself. Just a tip from someone who's tried unsuccessfully for the better part of a decade to stop eating…

Thanks for the support. I've already put it behind me! I was so excited to go back to my boring eating after all those meals out and low and behold there was nothing in the refrigerator this morning when I woke up (literally nothing- no milk, bread, no eggs) so I was left to eating a piece of leftover pizza. However, I…

OK- Back from the conference (finally!) and let's just say the plan crashed and burned. I did manage to go work out twice (even though I was hungover). Food however was impossible to keep track of since we were eating out constantly and I don't even want to try to estimate how much I drank. Also, it was super annoying to…

Another day under my calorie limit!!! While I wasnt able to get in any exercise yesterday, as long as I get in 3 hours over the course of the trip I'll be happy. I never know what I'm going to be doing and when during these conferences so I'm trying not to drive myself crazy about squeezing in the gym everyday. Hope…

Hooray! I made it under my calorie limit yesterday! Even though I was at the Cubs game and REALLY REALLY wanted a hot dog, beer, nachos.... well the list can go on. I totally resisted! Today I'm flying to Denver and I'm a boredom eater so I'm going to pack lots of healthy snacks for the plane so I'm not tempted to buy a…

I think a lot of us are in the same boat. The good new for you is that because you've already been successful and know what works, it'll probably be a lot easier to get into the swing of things again. I suggest setting a goal and posting it (baby goals really, not so much your ultimate weight loss goal). This way you'll…

OK, I need to switch things up. I've had two crap days and am super worried because I'm going to a conference this Thursday (until next week) which means every meal will be eating out. I really need to set some contingencies to keep me on target each day. I'm going to set my goals for staying in my calorie and fat limit…

Well, as expected, things completely went to **** over the weekend. My food choices weren't that bad, but I did consume roughly a bucket of booze and haven't worked out since Thursday. Back on the wagon today... So, question- how often do you guys weigh yourselves? I've come across conflicting info about this- some say…

Hello all! So today was my second day in a row going to the gym! Woot woot! No joke, that's a big deal for me. Especially since I was super sore from yoga yesterday. I was considering flaking and then decided to put my "goal jeans" on. Well, they get over my hips (which again is a big deal, since last time I tried them on,…

I have the same problem- every weekend we go to parties or out to dinner and it ruins not only that day but usually the next day as well. Plus, since it's summer, I have a ton of weddings and shower to go to which means lots of treats and drinking.
-
I hear you! Every time I get on a roll, I think I trick myself into thinking I can slack off a bit, and one cookie turns into daily cookies. I think it's important to constantly be setting new goals so that you always have something to be working towards. I think too often we focus on weight, and when we don't see the…

Great idea! It actually reminded me of one of my students who did a self-management project and everyday she put on (or attempted to) her favorite pair of jeans that no longer fit. She said it gave her a lot better feedback as opposed to the scale. Heading to the closet now!
-
I'd really like to get down a few pants size- I have an enormous closet of clothes and I can wear maybe 10% of them... I'm down to my final pair of jeans that fit :( I blame it on the return of leggings :) Damn those comfy elastic devils! I refuse to buy new pants to accommodate my new flub!

I agree that it helps knowing that others will see what you eat! I was at the gym last night and a commercial for KFC came on and all I thought was, dear god, that would probably max out my calorie/fat limits for a week!

I'd like to get in on this as well. My biggest thing is someone keeping me accountable. There are plenty of days that I get off track and I think it's just gotten to the point where it's no big deal to me since I've largely been off track for the last decade...
