I was a bit concerned about the rain, but I wanted to go ride so I took the chance, besides, I dont get to see rain or clouds for that matter in Phoenix (at least not often that is) , so it was nice to see. The rain did not come anywhere around where I rode. I am building up my Red White and Blue jersey collection, that is…

Today I went to Cherry Creek Reservoir to ride my bike as I did not have enough time to go do the ride I originally wanted to do as I am staying over an hours drive away. There is an abundance of trails around the lake. It was a very enjoyable ride. One could ride on the road, or the paved trails. I did a little of both.…

First stop, Flagstaff AZ. At 7,000 foot elevation there is plenty of good hill work. One ride is to the top of the Snowbowl ski area, a climb elevation of about 2,400 feet in about 20 miles (if I understood this correctly). This one looks like a fun ride, but being a lowlander and flat farm roads rider, I may have…

Has anyone tried out mapmyride? The calories that show up for me on a workout for Mapmyride usually seems about half of what my Garmin 305 records. It appears that there is no real way to see what actual calorie burn is, there is just so much difference with all the ways to count calorie burns. I guess one could get a…

I feel I should explain myself a bit better, don’t want ppl to think I'm one of those jerk bike riders. My road rides are 90% farm roads. The roads for the most part are on one mile grids. Every intersection has a 4 way stop sign. I can see for a great distance if there are any cars around, (until the corn grows too high).…

This is a subject that is talked about quite often in the biking world, so you’re not alone in this. Proper bike fit is most importaint. Here are a few links to check out, http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/775770-hand-numbness-while-cycling…

Downhill should be fun. The first time I did downhill riding it was on a ski mountain, There was this drop off that the bunch of us did, I was last in line, so everyone was watching me on the other end, I took off, got my speed up and went over the edge, well I didn’t know how much of a drop off it was until I was in the…

Going up is definitely a balance act. Too far forward, and the back wheel spins out, too far back and the front wheel can come off the ground. The more riding you do the more you will know where to position yourself for the slope you are going up. I've gone down some real steep hills. So steep that my *kitten* was just…

The phone apps are nice, but they burn the battery fast and are hard to see during daylight, unless you turn your brigtness up which burns the battery faster. I use a Garmn Edge 305, I beleive its a discontinued line, but you can find them on eBay for a real good price. If you want to stick to new products see cloggsy's…

Yeah, maybe I do need to go to my local bike shop, not a bad idea. No pain in walking, and I dont do any running, (sorry Kenneth). The discomfort is not in the bones or joints, more like skin and muscle.
-
Ok its not really Pain, just real discomfort or a real dull pain (for lack of a better word that I can think of just now). I guess it could turn into a larger pain over time, but it happens in the region in red in this picture. I've also tried loosing up my shoe straps to eleivate the pressue in this region, still no go.

Archorn's post did bring back some memories. I didnt recall them because I didnt think of them as attacking bugs, in any case In the desert here, there are these little black flying things, have no clue what they are, but they are very small, like a few grains of sand small. When stopping for a break I guess they are…

I cant remember getting attacked by a bug or animal; lots of close calls tho such as going near a rattle snake that was ready to strike as there was a rider in front of me spooked him, and hearing the rattle was quite unnerving. (I actually ran over another diamondback on another occasion.) However, I have been attacked by…

The visual in my minds eye for this story made me laugh just a bit.....sorry about that kenneth

I'm with most here. I wouldn't want to hurt the dog, but I would do whatever it takes to keep me safe. One thing that comes to my mind is your personal safety, I'm not talking about a dog bite, its been my experience that when a dog was chasing me like the dog as you described, my focus now is only on keeping track of the…

Im sad to hear about all the road rash! Im hoping that this accident may help him to understand the things you are telling him are for a reason.

I think thats happened to all of us that just started out with clipless. I was an avid "Roadie" all my life with no desire to get into MTBing. A few of my friend were hitting up the trails a lot, so I bit the bullet and bought a hard tail. I instantly fell in love. In fact I ditched my road bike, and strictly was a trail…

I think ppl who commute on a bike to be some of the best kind of bike riders! I would love to commute to work...but It doesn't work for me as I work out of my house!! Welcome to this section of the forum.

Well Achoon, it just so happens, that is exactly what happened, My dad chased after me.

Dang, my edge 305 feels so small now compared to yall lol ! Its good for me for now anyway. If and when it goes out, I will look to upgrade it.

absolutely! Five Finger, Drowning Pool, Rob Zombie, Rammstein, Bullet for my Valentine just to name a few. I only go high speed music on my ipod.

Anyone remember the bike computer called "Push"?

My road rides are flat farm lands, not much to see, and I'm usually timing myself, so I dont want to stop. Off road is another deal though. AZ is a awesome state for MTB riding. In and around the Phoenix area are some fantastic trails. They are rough though, being rocky and lots of cactus quivers both in tires and legs.…

I’m a minimalist. I don't like big bags on my bike. Granted I don't ride century’s either. I have a small specialized bag just big enough for a tube, inflator, tire lever and CO2. This is the same for both my Road and Mountain. If I am going on bigger and longer rides, I bring my 100oz Camelback. I know it's huge, but in…
