  • Hi all! I've been on MFP since May. I'm 32, and got slightly less than 150 lbs to lose. I deal with hypothyroidism and the occasional bouts of blue moods it can entail. In any event, I log my stuff: the good, the bad, and the "oh-my-gawd, why did I eat THAT?" ugly. Being honest on my logging has made me think twice about…
  • My goal for the week: Get back on the exercise bike. I think I can manage it without re-injury now. I'm so cranky much of the time and I hate it. :( Being stuck in the house is no bueno. @cblue315 - I agree, sometimes an apology, even when you believe you weren't in the wrong, is better than sticking to your guns and…
  • @mnwalkingquee Are you saying that you're getting less than 1000 kcal per day after exercise? If so, that may cause your body to hang on to fat a bit longer. If I remember correctly, (feel free to correct me if I am mistaken) an average adult will need a minimum of 1200 kcal per day, after exercise. fyi, 1 kcal = 1 calorie.
  • Whee, happy Sunday all! Welcome to the new folks! I'll catch up some when I get a free hour or so! My foot pain is almost gone, but not willing to jinx myself, so still restricting myself to weights for another week or so. Life in general has been a pile of hectic and an even bigger pile of coping with unforeseen…
  • I've been obese since childhood, however, I am the one responsible for my current weight. - My mom worked most of the time when I was a young kid, so we had take-out or fast food quite often and I developed a taste for it. - I learned the unhealthy example of going to food to soothe myself, and boy did I need A LOT of…
  • 1- Tired of being morbidly obese. 2- Want to buy clothing at regular clothing stores instead of specialty shops. 3- Want to hurt less. Being fat so long has not been kind to my feet and knees. 4- Want to actually be "date-able" for once in my life. 5- Want to avoid diabetes for as long as I can.
  • @OP- Only listen to the advice of your doctor or dietician. All others can kindly mind their own business. Congrats and best of luck on your journey!
  • @tlh0407 Yay! Glad the move went through and that your kiddo's safe! @kah68 Glad the migraine was avoided! As for shoes, I've learned that the good stuff will cost more, but it's worth it to keep your feet happy, especially for running shoes. @conniehgtv Welcome! I'm sorry for your loss. Here's to hoping you have great…
  • My list 1. To stop hating what I see in the mirror. 2. To hurt less. With how big I am, I am not doing my knees any favors by remaining at this size. 3. To be able to buy clothing in "regular" stores, instead of having to head to specialty stores/catalogs. 4. To fend off becoming diabetic for as long as I can. It runs on…
  • Evening all! Welcome to all the newlings and hello to everyone! I'm feeling a wee bit frustrated. I have to stay off my bad foot a while and let it heal. I got too overzealous in power-walking and undid all the healing that had happened before. This will not go over well. I cannot stand staying still for very long,…
  • Just peeking in. Feeling pretty despondent. My plantar fasciitis feels worse and is making things harder to do. Getting new shoe inserts and hoping for the best. I did pretty poorly over the weekend and lost my battle of wills with the ice cream bucket. Ohhh well. New week, new chance, right? July goal: 40 miles!…
  • I ADORE chocolate almond milk. But I only get it rarely, as a treat for myself. Otherwise, I get the unsweetened vanilla almond milk. Mainly, I use it in my breakfast smoothies to cut down on calories. Also, I have thyroid disease and was instructed to not over-do soy foods/products.
  • Awesome job, OP! Very happy for you!! :flowerforyou:  :flowerforyou:
  • I've been there! I'd gain and lose the same 5 pounds for YEARS. I'm not a pro, so I can only offer you what has been working for me. 1) Baby steps. Smaller changes are easier to stick to than massive changes. Once a small change has been made a habit, add to it. 2) Log your food and LOOK AT YOUR MACROS. (calories, protein,…
  • @tlh0407 - I hope all goes well. I remember all too clearly the stress of moving and being on a tight deadline to do so! (I'd have to pick up and move every couple of years for school and work until I moved here to TX.) AFM - As of Saturday, I've managed to drop 11 pounds since starting this journey in May. I nearly…
  • @Lauriek70- Correct, no exercise on the 1st to the 7th. Was too busy pouting.
  • HI all! I'm back from the loony bin again. Foot pain as receded enough that I've been braving morning walks again. I've been going slow and there's still some pain, but I'm hopeful! I really, REALLY missed being outside in the mornings! My Thursday Truth: I was getting super depressed only being able to bicycle for…
  • Mileage update- 19 June: 13.2 miles, cycling 20 June: 13.2 miles, cycling 21 June: 15.7 miles, cycling 22 June: 0, rest 23 June: 0, rest Wow, summer time colds and what not seem to have really hit people! Hope y'all feel better very soon! @Robin- I hear you about the "own worst enemy" thing! Don't give up, you're worth…
  • Happy Thursday, everyone! My Thursday truth: I wondered why I'd been gaining back some weight. Well, at first, I pouted and felt like I ate anything that wasn't nailed down, so I KNOW that's part of why I gained back some. BUT! I looked up the the way to calculate calories burned (here:…
  • Monday check-in: Pain in foot not getting much better, feeling very frustrated. Mostly because I can't do most of the things I like! If there were a city pool, I'd risk scaring folk by stuffing my massive self into a swimsuit, but there isn't, so I sadly shan't. I'm ready to scream. Cousin and aunt were by over the…
  • Great job on the mileage, everyone! :flowerforyou: My Friday fitness: So, I think I won't have any issues hitting 20 miles this month, what with only being able to do cycling for the next week and change. I'm tempted to add more to my goal, but uncertain. I know I will definitely be working out a minimum of 4 days a week,…
  • So, I've been the victim of a catch-22, according to my new doctor. The good thing, I've lost weight because I've taken up jogging/power walking. BUT, the bad thing is, that because I'm carrying over 100lbs more than I should be, it irritated the tissues of my left foot and now I've got plantar fasciitis. She's told me to…
  • I've only read the OP, forgive me if I'm repeating what others said. @OP: That man, not matter how much you love him, IS EMOTIONALLY ABUSIVE. It is NOT EVER going to get better. He'll find a new "flaw" that will need to be "fixed" before he'll give you what you want. And another after that, and so on and so forth. I've…
  • Hello all! Monday check in! Scale hasn't budged, BUT, I didn't gain, so I'm counting that as a victory for the week. If I'm lucky, it means I'm building up a little bit of muscle. It's taking me longer on my walks to actually get winded, so I guess it's helping! As for pedometers, I'm currently using a free app…
  • Hello all! Sunday share time again, I see. Well, yesterday was grocery day. My brother tagged along. Much to my surprise, 99% of the things he picked out were actually healthy. (Fish, fruit, fresh bread, etc) Maybe he's been listening after all? Had gotten a take and bake lasagna, because Saturday night is my cheat meal.
  • Yay, other people who know what it's like to fight with this! Hello all! I started showing symptoms of hypothyroidism when I was around 19 or 20, but wasn't diagnosed hypothyroid until I was 25 or so. I'm 32 now. The doctors I'd seen before then all just threw antidepressants at me, which only made me feel sicker. (The…
  • Regardless of what the recruiter tells you, GET TREATED. I was a dummy as a younger person and went untreated for my hashimoto's (hypothyroidism) for months! Take your meds, get your levels checked and you should be feeling fine within weeks. :)
  • Mine is a tie between oreo double stuffed cookies and jalapeno cheese bread. Before I started calorie counting, I could EASILY eat an entire packet/loaf all by myself in one day! I don't mean one of those small packets where it's just like 10 cookies or a couple bread sticks, I mean the larger ones you typically find in…
  • Mileage update! June 6: 0 (felt too tired) June 7: 1.7 miles
  • @MyM0wM0w - I hope your furbaby comes out of it alright! I know how stressful it is when the vet has concerns about something being malignant, I'd been in those shoes last year. :( My mileage so far! June 1: rest day June 2: rest day June 3: 1.3 miles June 4: 0.93 miles June 5: 1.09 miles Thursday Truth- Some days, my…
