  • One more brand to try: Surgeon's Skin Secret. It has beeswax, which makes it a little heavy, but I use one little dot in the morning and one before bed and I am good to go - even in winter in Chicago! It's a little pricey, but so thick that I have had the same bottle for three years and I probably have one more to…
  • I've heard that too, but I still wear one. I just change out as soon as I'm showered up. I think that's common sense no matter what you wear. You can shower all you want, but if you put that old stuff on your behind.... eew
  • I've tried the sugar free kind, too, and it's pretty good. Jewel - the big grocery chain in my area - even has a generic brand that's good. In fact, I've got some in the pantry - I might go have a cup!
  • I love my piercings and tats, but, like a lot of people, I've got to keep them covered most of the time. Here's the rundown and some pix: Piercings: Left ear: 3 lobes, tragus, helix-to-conch industrial, helix Right ear: 3 lobes, tragus, conch, double rook Torso: 3-5 at any given time (I <3 surface piercings) Tats: Scorpio…
  • A couple of tips that I use when I am in the same situation: 1) Break your dinner up into two parts. Have one for part for dinner and one for a snack. As a lot of people here will tell you, it helps to eat smaller portions throughout the day anyway than to have a few larger meals. 2) Find some super-healthy snacks. Sounds…
  • Aaaah! I love Panera, but I made a BIG mistake there yesterday. I didn't have a chance to look it up before I went, but I was sick and tired of soup, so I got a Frontega Chicken panini without the mayo. When I finally looked it up, it was almost 900 calories!!! Granted, maybe it was 800 without the mayo, but that's not…
  • First off, I can relate to your bad luck streak. Last week my mom tells me she is moving halfway across the country, my car got totaled by a hit-and-run driver, and I found out my job could be getting outsourced early next year. Once my neck and back felt better (due to the car accident), I hit the gym, but just wasn't…
  • I agree. I bought a great bottle of wine and I've been "budgeting" appropriately for it. In my opinion, if you feel healthy, you are doing fine. If you feel sluggish and malnourished, you probably are.
  • I've never taken Chantix, but I took Zyban (aka Wellbutrin) and I dealt with insomnia, anxiety, and unnatural amounts of energy... and I crashed hard when I stopped taking it. WebMD says that, compared to Zyban: The four-week continuous quit rates for the various treatments were: * 48% for 1 mg Chantix twice daily * 37%…
  • Also, FYI, the site will recommend levels for you if you go to Food, Settings and add a column to your food diary. I'm not sure what guidelines they use, but it seems proportional to calorie limits when you scale-down the USDA guidelines BrenNew posted.
  • Have you thought about going to a chiropractor? I've been going for a few months for my right knee, and it at leasts puts off cortizone shots and surgery, which are scary and more expensive (with my insurance at least).
  • At my office, we are dressing up the whole place as Initech from the movie Office Space. We're putting up a sign that says "Is This Good for the Company?" and getting a bunch of red staplers and jump-to-conclusions mats. For my part in it, I am debating between a Chochtkie's employee (with 15 pieces of flare) or…
  • I hear you. I got some tips from this thread that might help: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/25199-business-travel
  • Here's what's on my mix that you might enjoy: Buckcherry Depswa Hole The Killers No Doubt Shinedown Breaking Benjamin Fuel I also enjoy the really heavy stuff - godsmack, rob zombie, dope, mudvayne, slipknot, five finger death punch, etc. - when I am working out to blow off steam (i.e. more often than not  ).
  • Ouch - pain in my side... Too... many... jumping... jacks :embarassed: BTW, I chose "golden parachute", "earmark", and "fundamentals"
  • Anyone else think of Paris Hilton when they read these?
  • Welcome aboard and good luck! I am sure with three little kids, you'll have no problem with the exercise portion  My advice for what has to be a very busy life: log your food ahead of time and stick to it. It helps me avoid those moments of temptation.
  • I was just thinking the same thing!
  • Count, count, count! Some vegetables contain MANY more calories than others - carrots and potatoes, for instance, are NOT equal to celery and lettuce. Most vegetables are "free" foods in that you can eat larger volumes for fewer calories and they have lots of nutrients, but they still have calories and you should still…
  • Thanks for all the tips! It's clear to me now that I had all the tools in place - healty food options, gym at the hotel, workout clothes, a pilates DVD to throw in my laptop - but I didn't use them. I am going to commit to taking advantage my alone time to do healthy things from here on out Also, I like the idea of a…
  • I am en route home after my very first business trip. The trip was great - I learned a lot, met people face-to-face that I had only talked to on the phone - BUT I feel so unhealthy! Here's what my meal plan looked like: Breakfast - fuel up on fruit and yogurt in the hotel - GOOD Breakfast again - donuts and huge bagels…
  • Well, I'm not about to say that doctors are no good for weight loss, but this sounds like a doctor of sales. Anyone else remember when B12 was all the rage? Apparently, it's back. There aren't many risks (that I know of) with B12 because it is water soluble. (It's an overdose of the fat-soluble ones that can be dangerous.)…
  • Uh, yeah.... I just got back from an office get-together and I caved for what looked like a small piece of cake. I just logged it based on the size I would estimate, and it is bad news bears! More calories than I ate at lunch! I am totally on board for an office junk food challenge! I suppose this means I will have to take…
  • OMG have you tried soy nut butter? It's DELICIOUS!!! I think you are doing well with the natural peanut butter; just make sure to measure carefully because PB is very dense in calories.
  • It depend what you mean by "reduced calories". You should keep up about 1200 calories to keep your body out of starvation mode. Also, be careful about an all-protein diet. Protein helps build muscle, but consuming it without plenty of fiber, water, vitamins, and minerals can put you at risk for kidney stones - ouch!
  • I'd like to say, "No problem, salt it up!" because I do the same thing. Unfortunately, high sodium intake is linked to things like high blood pressure, just what losing weight is supposed to un-do! Here's a good, trustworthy article about the risks and ways to avoid them: http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/sodium/NU00284
  • I had to laugh a little bit when I read this thread because I am on MFP to lose the weight I put on AFTER maintaining through college. If you have a cafeteria at the dorm, I would honestly say to take advantage of it. My cafeteria always had oatmeal in the morning (even though I brought my own sugar-free syrup) and…
  • My tablespoon rule is this: 2 tbsp is about the size of a golf ball I also like this one for portioning meat: 3oz of meat is about the size of a deck of cards
  • Too funny! I find myself wondering the same thing... We had "wacky olympics" at my office yesterday (things like tug-of-war, beach ball volleyball, bungee races, etc.) and I couldn't help but wonder what would happen if I entered tug-of-war into the exercise log here - turns out nothing, but that's when I realized I had…
