Most women retain water (hence feeling of being "bloated") for a couple of days prior to their period. Then, the water comes out and it looks like you've lost a lot of weight. Plus/minus couple of pounds is really water fluctuations in your body.

Congrats on new shoes. Actually, podiatrists advise is to change shoes every 6 months, especially if you're going to "put all those miles on them"! You need to have proper support to protect your ankles, knees, hips, etc.
