Congrats on completing the c25k program and starting your journey as a runner! You are still getting conditioned, so know that it gets better. When you first start running, it's not really fun. But that's coming, so stick with it. I've no doubt you will be able to use your discipline to hit your goal of running a marathon.…

Just jumping in to say that I love your attitude! It assures me that you will do very well in reaching your goals.

You will do great. Marathons are hard because 1) you run on concrete, and 2) you run at a higher intensity for the entire distance. No walking. Tough! Unless you are looking to podium, on average expect to power walk some of your ultra. That's OK. It's part of the strategy. If you can't see the top of a hill, power hike it.
-
I think you will do just fine in the ultra. However, you are probably blowing any chance of a marathon PR. But that's probably just me projecting. A long race two weeks before another race would spell disaster for me. I like a longer taper. Your mileage may vary!

There are literally dozens of us! ;)

How could I forget Marshall's book? Loved it!

I'm with JTURNERX. Both would be at the top of my list of recommendations.

Nice to meet you! Great intro. You look like you know what you're doing and I look forward to your insights. :)

Greetings! I'm larger for an ultrarunner. I will tip the scales at 200lbs for my 50M trail race this Saturday.

That's awesome!

I would just add that in my experience a barefoot gait analysis on the treadmill is better. I went to a Fleet Feet about 10 years ago when I really started running and they put me in neutral shoes and did a gait analysis. As a result I spent many years in stability/motion control shoes. I did another gait analysis about 6…

I'm going to run the Rocky Raccoon 50M trail race on February 7th and then see where I go from there!

What's I've done in the past to fix it is to disconnect the app from MFP and then re-connect. It then automatically imports OK. As for double runs, etc, I found that happens sometimes if I edit and activity in Garmin Connect. Not sure why. Annoying, so I rarely edit the GC stuff.

No snow. The rain made the course almost so muddy it was crazy. Sucking peoples shoes off, crawling over the wooden bridges on hands and knees, slipping and sliding everywhere. The feeling was that it wouldn't be good to have the 50M start at 3:30AM and run for hours in the dark having never seen the course before. The 100…

OK, I haven't yet written a race report yet. Not sure I will or not. Maybe! I was DFL, but that's OK. 58% of those attempting the 50K were DNF so I beat them! ;) I've signed up for Rocky Raccoon 50M race in February so hopefully that will go well. :)

I later learned the reason for it and it makes sense. The RD wanted the finish line to be a place of joy. It's so tough when you have runners coming in just after cut off at the finish line. So they backed it up to the aid station just a few miles from the finish. They cut you off there instead of the finish line. The good…

Buy and read "Relentless Forward Progress". It will certainly help you in your preparations. I had to learn much the old fashioned way! It's nice that there are such good resources today.

I ran the Big Cedar Endurance trail race Saturday the 22nd. I planned on the 50M but they canceled the 50M for runner safety. I dropped to the 50K. I was DFL and almost 4.5 hours slower than my PR. But I couldn't be happier. Ankle deep sticky mud. Crawling on your hands and knees over super slick bridges. The course was an…

Welcome to the fun house!

I used to use the ankle one. But as a trail runner it would get nasty. You just have to wash it with soap and water occasionally. I switched to the nylon wrist strap instead.
-
I would list your best guess at unofficial. If someone challenges you can explain, but that number is your gold standard that you may try to beat one day, not the artificially longer one.
-
This has been my approach exactly, but I've only done 50K's. I have a 50M race scheduled for Saturday and will try the same approach. We'll see how it works!

My name, my wife's name and cell number. The rest they can get by either calling RoadID or going online for the rest of the information.

I don't know if they are tough or what the reasoning is. I just thought it's funny. I'm an optimist, so this won't be an issue for me since I will run it so much faster than this. Yeah, that's the ticket! :)

I recommend going to http://www.treadmilldoctor.com/ and checking reviews. It's nice to have just in case, but personally I avoid the treadmill whenever possible. I spent my $ on an elliptical for cross-training purposes and just do my running outside. The only time time when I've pined for a treadmill is during a long…

That is great stuff. Congratulations! What a major accomplishment. :)

Congrats!

I'm just glad you're out there all winter. I actually like running in really cold weather. The runs are so peaceful since the casual jogger/cyclist/pedestrian can't be bothered with bundling up and going outside except to go to their heated car en route to a climate controlled gym. When I do see another runner, especially…

I like the idea of screw shoes, but in Oklahoma we've had fairly mild winters. I would hate to thru the hassle of doing it for maybe a couple of runs. So Yak Traks for me. If we had more snow/ice to deal with, I would certainly opt for the screws. Unless you have enough money to just buy an extra pair of shoes you dedicate…
