That's how my in-laws were--their first question when we walked in the door was always "Are you hungry?" and when we talked to FIL on the phone he ALWAYS asked "Are you eating every day?" It took years for me to realize that he didn't necessarily eat every day when he was young.

I have the smaller version of this Aroma cooker that we got cheap at Meijer; it comes with a little steamer try for the top if you want to steam vegetables while cooking rice. I do brown or white rice in it, as well as quinoa, and it's great--no need to monitor it, and it flips over to "warm" once the rice is cooked.

I've been more or less low-sodium since late 2002 after kidney failure and congestive heart failure. Diet plays a big role in it (there's surprise sodium in weird places), losing weight helped, exercise helps, but in my case I'll still be on blood-pressure meds forever.

Fortunately there's also Big Pharma for those of us who need medical intervention to stay alive.
