  • I gather a "roly poly" is a US term. What is it? (just so I can figure out what it is in the UK!)
  • I would spell it Roly Poly ... but who cares!
  • My A-Z of calories gives Haddock in Batter (380), average chips (550) and mushy peas (150), totalling 1080 if eating the meal on your own from a chippy. Harvester's fish, chips & peas is 1042. Enjoy your meal as a treat, then get back on the healthy stuff. :drinker:
  • Well my start on this NHS community run was cancelled by heavy rain. However, I still attempted W1D1 with my Wii - Island Run followed by walk/jog sessions. Within the confines of my lounge, dining room and kitchen, I managed 15 minutes. Here's hoping the rain is gone by Saturday, when I will attempt it outside.
  • Just checked out your blog - I am so impressed at your nerve. I can't say that I will be so brave. I start C25K today (it's raining ... but that's not unusual for the UK!)
  • This has just started in my area ... and I begin today!
  • It's "coach [potato] to 5k" - you can google it to get full details on how to start running safely.
  • Good morning Wayne and welcome to the gang. Whereabouts in UK are you? I'm in Cheshire. Hard work being a chef, having to taste all that food! I wish you good luck in your journey (and your wife too).
  • Is it? Gosh, first time I've heard that one!
  • Just take it one day at a time. I gave up smoking between Christmas and New Year in 2001 (having been a smoker for over 30 years). I haven't had another one yet.
  • My son's partner has lost 4 stone with diet alone, as she is in a wheelchair. You can do anything, if you plan it sufficiently. Exercise is to be enjoyed, if possible, but is not mandatory to weight loss. It took Amy nearly 12 months to lose this weight.

  • Quite frankly, and speaking personally, I am the wrong side of 50 and I'd like to live until I'm at least 80 so I can see my grand-children grow up. I don't want to be a parody. I want to have a body that works efficiently and with as little medical intervention and pill-popping as possible (I'm in the UK, so I don't have…
  • Congratulations! I look forward to getting to this stage myself.
  • My own personal favourite is two large caramel Snack a Jacks with sliced banana on top.
  • Hello Charliebird My name's Elaine and I live in Cheshire. Can't have you being billy-no-mates!
  • Unfortunately here in the UK, our Laughing Cow flavours are pretty limited ... I thought I was doing well to find an Onion flavour the other day! Your recipe sounds delicious
  • Sorry Mairgehal - can't provide a kick for you ... cos I finally figured out my own kick up the wotsit last night. Like you, I've been poorly over the BH (and today's the anniversary of my Dad's death), so I'm feeling pretty down yet I've just figured that I won't lose all this weight unless I really do make some real…
  • Hello there. Yes, you can lose weight without exercising - last night I attended Slimming World (I take my son's girlfriend, and have joined just to be a part of the meeting - she didn't pick a local venue!). Anyhow, my son's girlfriend is in a wheelchair due to an accident which has damaged her back. Last night, she…
  • Hi <<big hug>> This is not good news, as all surgery is serious. However, it is not insurmountable. My father had his gall bladder removed and the change in his colour afterwards was dramatic. We hadn't noticed how grey he was looking but he was much healthier afterwards, although he did have to pay more attention to his…
  • Try to keep your chin up! Don't forget that what goes in, must come out again ... and that can take some time, depending your body. Rationalise your eating before you start beating yourself up. It was your son's birthday, which comes around once a year. Sod the healthy eating on such on occasion! If you don't eat pizza and…
  • I'm 5'1" and aiming for 120 (note to self ... find a photo!)
  • Thank you! I'll get the hang of this American lingo eventually!!
  • Congratulations! But pardon my ignorance ... I'm English. What is an NSV? And whilst asking, what does "bump" mean in a follow-on message?? Thanks! :flowerforyou:
  • I'm 5'1" and aiming for 120.
  • You are a girl after my own heart ... that red wine and cheese :drinker: I have temporarily moved to white!
  • And hello from sunny Cheshire too!
  • Hi Mamabear. I only started this week too and yes, I do use a Wii Fit - quite badly because I fall off regularly! However, I am looking forward to balancing on one leg eventually and not falling off. Good luck with your journey, they say the first step is the hardest.
  • Hi Leisa, What time do you eat your breakfast? Can you go a bit longer before your first meal? The only food suggestion that comes to mind is homemade vegetable soup, which is low in calories if you don't sweat the veg in oil/butter first. You must be exhausted!

  • Hi Boo I'm also from UK but am on the wrong side of 50 :blushing: I am in my first week on MFP and am just finding my way around. I have failed miserably with the usual weight loss clubs - I just don't like people telling me what I should eat! Feel free to friend me.
