So you love potatoes, and have the concern that when you indulge in them it is hard to eat a reasonable amount, making it difficult to work into your caloric budget. Potatoes aren't all that good raw; you're making big batches at a time, more than one serving. Your trouble is portion control. I do almost all my cooking in…

The hard truth is "doing what you want" isn't what's called for, to lose weight. Most of the folks here, me included, became overweight by mindlessly following our appetites. If you want to be successful in the long run, don't simply set a calorie goal and force yourself to stick to it. Instead, cultivate your tastes.…

Great advice here! I like your reasoning for setting the goal weight at 1/2 lb per week, but came at this slightly differently. Early on in finding MFP, I looked at my "goal weight" maintenance calories to get a picture of how horribly restrictive my healthy life would be. I was surprised (DELIGHTED) to learn that healthy…

Terror at falling off track is not a healthy sign. You did not find yourself in an unhealthy body from a single day, or single weekend, of bad habits. Just as it will take a while to get healthy again, it would take a while to undo the good you've already done. My recommendation, enjoy yourself this weekend. Engage in the…

"Thank you, but no. While it looks delicious, I am struggling to improve my eating habits, and choose not to try it. I appreciate your kindness, understanding, and support!"

For the longest time i had a list of stuff that i needed to change about myself. Top of that list was being a smoker. I smoked for 18 years, averaging a pack a day or more, depending on stress and other activities. I also crept up to 100 pounds overweight over the years. My roommate at the time was just finishing a book…

I is beast mode. RAWR.

I have used the Vegetti, and liked it. But i tend to bulk prep meals, and hand-turning ten zucchini at a time got a little tiresome. I also found that i got a little careless toward the end, and a few different time i've nipped my fingers. clean up is simple enough. I run it under hot water and take a nylon-bristled brush…

As others here have said, eat at a deficit to lose weight, and work out so that the weight you lose is mostly fat. Your body will burn it where it wants.... :( If you build up your abs before you lose any extra fat you carry there, you may not get quite the results you're looking for. For core work out specifically, i have…

i had a remarkable progress in weight and body shape when i first started. My first 15 pounds was the fastest, about two weeks. In my curiosity, i read the forums here, and someone used the tongue-in-cheek phrase "broccoli shock." Basically, my previous habits were bad; really bad. Lots of fast food. Too much sodium.…

Except for instance of medical abnormality, your body weight is established by your habits. If you don't change your habits and get liposuction, you will eventually get back to being overweight. I would consider liposuction if it was necessary for immediate concerns, but otherwise i would (and have!) instead put my mind to…

For anyone, whether they suffer physical limitations or not, "90% if weight loss is in kitchen." The physical and time effort required to burn extra calories through intentional exercise is significantly higher than the physical and time effort to consume those same calories. How long does it take you to eat a…

So there is a difference between "being healthy" and "weight management". You can eat nothing but twinkies and, as long as you are within a caloric intake limit below your maintenance, you WILL lose weight. You'll likely feel like crap pretty quickly. You will be malnourished. You will NOT be healthy. But you will lose…

Have you missed my point that badly?

If you can lose weight at 1,500 calories a day, you could eat nothing but 1,500 calories sugar and still lose weight. It could be anything at all, as long as you stop eating once you hit 1,500 calories. Donuts. Big Macs and Milk Shakes. The point to eating well is to ensure you're getting the nutrients you need to be…

1) quit paying attention to her. Posting this video, clicking on this video, and discussing this video is THE POINT of this video. If you don't want to support the creator, don't engage with it.... 2) Most of us are here because we realize that it is our bad choices that brought us to an unhealthy position. She's being…

Excellent post, thank you for sharing! I only recently read a quote on these forums about coming to terms with throwing away "perfectly good food" when you're full: "It's wasted either way; the question is, do you want it to damage you on the way out, or not?" It has helped me really come to terms with the idea of being…

"Picky eater" is not a condition, it's a choice that you have reinforced over your lifetime. It's on you to find a culinary lifestyle that suits your tastes and needs, or not. For me, i've found it much easier to cut down on portions of calorie dense meats and fruits and bulk up with fibruous vegetables to make my daily…

Excellent! just learned of Scotch Eggs recently on another website, and am looking forward to trying it!

If you're serious about cutting, you should find a better plan, one that you can stick to without going to the forums to start making exceptions before you even start. Have you thought about simply using MFP's basic concept of eating whatever you want but within a calculated calorie budget?

It helps keep you from underestimating your true portion sizes, which in turn helps YOU count calories. "You'd be shocked at how much 2 oz of pasta isn't" = "a 'serving' of pasta is a lot small than you'd think!"

Maybe those folks are looking at you, and maybe it's you being self-conscious. Either way, keep doing what you're doing. You're on this journey for your own health, and their looks should not interfere with that. And if it helps, keep this in mind - if you really stand out, that means that all the consistent gym-goers will…

Learning to be healthy is difficult, confusing, and frustrating at first! Lots of people out there, giving lots of different advice, and while many are well-intentioned, a lot of them also just want to either sell you something for profit or convince others to join their fad to justify their own choices. One big thing to…

Thanks! My first attempt at a "cauliflower-based alfredo sauce" turned out to be more of a "very runny but delicious garlic mashed potatoes" flavor. Definitely think this could get OP within target.

i prefer dark meat. more flavor, just as much protein, and a little more fat. Yesterday i took 9 lbs of boneless/skinless chicken leg meat and made:* 2 lbs stir fried in bacon grease; packaged over quinoa with some stir-fried onion, grape tomatoes, shoestring zucchini, mushrooms, & cilantro. (4 servings) * 4 lbs in eggwash…

I've only recently started on the "being creative with cauliflower" road, and am surprised by how well i'm liking it. For mashed potatoes, i'd be interested to add some cauliflower florets to the boiling potatoes, and then mash it all together. With a 1:1 mix in the mash, and then a little cream, butter, and seasoning i…

There is a very useful term i learned in the MFP community: "NSV" or "non-scale victory". My reason for wanting to lose weight is not because of the number on the scale. My motivation is to feel better, to be better able to undertake activities i used to enjoy, to have a quality of life, and to be living mindfully.…

part of my success with MFP has been that i am now mindful of my eating. I don't surprise myself at the end of the day, finding that my current snack brings me to some unexpected caloric goal. That said, i'm losing weight right now - my goal is to watch calories while having a diverse enough, pre-planned meal structure…

I'm seeing lots of folks using fat free milk. Don't they add sugar to fat-free milk to help the taste? I've gotten to using whole milk again, and just being conscious of my portions, and i couldn't be happier!
