^^^ QFT. Due to my working hours, the vast majority of my strength training workouts are 20-25 minutes. 45 minutes will be MORE than adequate to get serious results. Compound/full-body movements ARE more effective; even the frou-frou girly magazines will tell you that doing full-body movements will give you more bang for…

Most competitions will have professional spray tan/hair/makeup people there who will do your spray tan and oil for you, but you need to make sure you book well in advance because especially at bigger shows they may run out of time slots. When I prepped for a photo shoot, my training/nutrition coach gave me a template of…

best recent deadlift is 340 for a raw single raw bench 160 on a good day squat lately have just been doing raw high rep stuff up to ~155 but can hit 200+ pretty confidently for a single. I put on my big girl pants (single ply) a couple months ago & trained with my old team & got 305 but was a little high (they called it…

If I'm running just a mile or 2, I'll just have water beforehand. Anything more than that though & I tend to start burning muscle (smell strongly of ammonia) even if I add BCAA's to the water bottle I carry with me, so will have 1/2 a scoop of whey & a big spoonful of peanut butter. I have to give it a little time to…

Yup I typically work out 1st thing in the mornings (3-4 mornings/week run, 1-2 mornings/week lift) & then again over my lunch break (almost always lifting).

BOTH  form follows function!

I'll echo what some others have said: -10 days really isn't that long -you were probably drinking water at the gym so even though you say "empty stomach," you probably had been drinking water -try weighing yourself more frequently, preferably at the same time of day (but just for illustrative purposes, weigh yourself in…

Quest bars are awesome! I also like Gatorade (yes, seriously...I thought "no way, barf" when I first heard it too) Whey Protein bars. They're ~340cal, (ballpark 20p/9f/43c) so definitely a lot higher cal than Quest, but IMO taste great.

I love that Mio stuff (the calorie-free "liquid water enhancer") especially since the water out of the fountain here at the office tastes a little funky - I've found if my water has a bit of flavor, I drink much more throughout the day. As far as diet sodas go though, the nutrition/training coach I worked with in the past…

Single mom (3 1/2 year old daughter), working 45+ hrs/week here. On average I get up at 4am on weekdays just to try to fit in everything that needs to be done...but if I won't do it, who will?

Good work!

I seriously, seriously doubt that your metabolism is "damaged." One possible thing to try would be cycling your caloric intake - a few days with the approx intake where you are now, and then a day at your BMR (which would ideally be on the days that you work out the longest/hardest). If you don't see a negative impact and…

Just added ya (I joined MFP last week so I think we're both noobs here!)

HUGE difference! You should be very proud of your progress!

Without knowing more about the dynamic of the folks at your workplace, it's kinda tough to make that call...in our office anytime there's a potluck or anything, either someone hangs a sign-up sheet in the break room where you put your name & what you're planning on bringing, or the receptionist walks around and just asks…

I agree with this. Overall you sound like you've got a pretty good start though!

Great smile! (and howdy to a fellow North Carolinian!)

Amen.

Is there something you can do with your son - if he's young, put him in a stroller & walk/jog him? If he's older, go on walks together, play ball, throw a frisbee, swim, etc? There are exercise videos specially made for little kids that adults can do too (I've done a bunch of them with my little girl). Do any of the gyms…

^^^agreed. Bump up cals, especially on the days you lift.

sure thing...

He has 1 birthday/year...don't panic! Celebrate! You have 364 OTHER days to be strict...try not to go TOO crazy, but hey if you go over your calories for one day, it's not the end of the world!

I just joined MFP last week; feel free to add me!

I've started going to the gym at 5am (when it opens - not a 24-hour place unfortunately) on leg day just so I can get a squat rack with NOBODY in my way! When I go back (limited as to the duration of my workouts due to work schedule, so short lifting session before work + short lifting session over my lunch break - gotta…

I <3 BroScience! to the OP: IMO, dumbbells/kettlebells/etc > Smith machine.
