I have 3 monthly goals, with the weight and body fat% I want to be by that specific day. I find it helps me to have deadlines to work towards. Once I hit 90 KG I'm going to crack that bottle of champagne I have left over in the fridge from New Years, and join the gym the next day (although I'm thinking about pushing that…

I loved the KOTOR games - then again, I like most Bioware games

Although it was the done thing to eat several small meals a day, I've read a couple of reports on scientific studies lately which showed in tightly calorie controlled experiments that eating three big meals or six small meals with the same overall calories resulted in absolutely no difference to any weight loss or body…

Done. I'd also be interested in seeing the results, especially the one on whether or not people believe that monogamy is genetic. I was going to write more in the comments box on it, but thought that you probably wouldn't want to wade through walls of text :)

Absolutely. Welcome and good luck. Feel free to add me as a friend as well

Yep, 2-3 weeks seems to be about right. If you do have a way of measuring your body fat, I'd track that as well, and see if you can incorporate some weight or resistance training as well.

I don't think it really matters too much as long as you're using the same scale and weighing yourself at the same time under the same circumstances. If you do decide to switch scales, weigh yourself on the two directly after one another so that you can see what the discrepancy is so that you don't immediately become…

Hey, and welcome back. Something that I've found has made a massive difference to my motivation is setting specific goals, visualising what it will look like when I reach them, and read them EVERY day, every chance you get. So for instance something like "By 4th July, I have lost 15lbs and am working out 5 times a week".…

Have you had your body fat percentage measured? It's possible that you're gaining muscle mass which is heavier than fat. It could also be that your body has reached an adaptation phase to your training - try changing the reps / intensity, or the cardio exercises that you do. Also, how are you measuring the calories burnt…

Not a fan of surgical procedures unless they're 100% necessary. What nutrition / fitness plans have you tried, how long were you on them, and what were the results?

Quite an interesting article on it at http://www.naturalnews.com/026630_canola_oil_olive_oil_saturated_fat.html

The main thing that motivated me was a friend on Facebook putting up photos of their wedding from 5 years ago when I was MC, and seeing how much less I weighed back then. Just looking at how much thinner my face was made me decide to make a change.

If you get a set of dumbbells, you can do a huge range of exercises at home, working all the major muscle groups. Body weight resistance training such as push ups are also good for working from home.

For a condition like hyperphagia, you should really see a specialist doctor. It's not a simple matter of self-control with a condition such as that, and a doctor would be able to give you advice on possible methods of controlling it. For most people, I would agree that it is a case of maintaining your self-discipline, but…

Someone else on these boards had a great quote which I think is applicable to these situations "When I was obese, one day of healthy eating didn't make me thin, so if I'm eating healthily for the rest of the time, one bad day isn't going to make me fat". Think it sums up my feelings on it perfectly - don't worry about it,…

Something to bear in mind as well is that your metabolism is raised for a long time post workout with strength training (moreso than with cardio), and so even your HRM isn't going to give you an an accurate reading of the total calories you burn from your training session.

The way I look at it, this is giving me control over my weight loss. Making sure that I'm staying in a calorie deficit is the most important part of that and taking the couple of seconds to log my food every time I eat it is a small price to pay for getting healthy.

I think it's a bit presumptuous for him to say what men prefer (to each their own) but from a health and metabolism point of view, what he's saying does make sense. Agreed that people should be aiming for the body that they want and where they're happy with themselves, and not for some idealized magazine spread figure…

Great article. I actually thought it was a Tom Venuto article while I was reading it - he takes a very similar approach.

Yeah, I think that's always the hardest part - just pasting something I said to someone else earlier about the way I approach it: >>For me, the most important thing when starting off with is believing that you can do it. Set yourself specific, measurable goals, put them in the present tense, visualize what it'll look like…

Hey, welcome to the site. I think the biggest thing to remember is that 80% of your weight loss is about your diet and the calories you take in - if you do a 20 minute run and then have a can of Coke afterwards, then you've just drank back half of those calories you just burnt. The MFP calorie tracker gives you a great…
