  • Yes - all of the carbs will be in the sauce.
  • I've not, but don't forget that you lose a lot of water when you get into ketosis which could show up as a loss of lean body mass.
  • What do you normally eat for protein? You won't be able to do something like Atkins which is high fat unless you really like eggs and cheese because you are just going to have to bulk out your diet with veg. I reckon you could do something like 100g carbs in the form of low carb veg, nuts, seeds and dairy, as much protein…
  • Maltitol has a glycemic index similar to table sugar so I avoid it myself. Xylitol has a GI of 7 and erythritol has a GI of 0 so they're both probably ok.
  • I seem to have broken a 5/6 week long plateau by stopping weighing and logging. It really is difficult to not pay attention to the calories on here and I think that might make me eat in a less natural way and thus stall my weight loss. I just keep a rough mental tally as I go. It's probably making me keep my carbs lower…
  • I eat 100-120g of bacon plus two eggs for breakfast. I also try and use up the bacon grease to fry mushrooms or curly kale etc. There really is no reason not to eat bacon fat, it's polyunsaturated fats that are really bad for you.
  • I was recently on medication which made me tired and hungry so I was eating 3,000 calories a day and moving around very little. Theoretically I should have put about 10 pounds on in the month this was going on but I didn't gain an ounce - I would have gained that and more if I'd been eating carbs.

  • Type 1 diabetics are the only people actually able get into a state of ketoacidosis so she was definitely right that it is something to be worried about. You should really talk to your endocrinologist about it asap.
  • You could make an entry in the database with the name of the recipe and the nutritional information. There has to be a better way of doing it but the only way I've found to add something to the database is the following: 1. Go to your food diary and click add food on one of your meals. 2. Type anything into the search box…
  • I've been using this for a while to subtract the fibre from my carb total when I have to use a non UK entry for something (carbs on the nutritional info are net carbs here so mixing US and UK entries messes with your carb count). I just made an entry in the database where the only nutritional information is -1g of carbs…
  • I can't stand artificial sweeteners because they all have a horrible aftertaste to me but I like stevia.
  • Fat is essential for the body whereas carbohydrate probably isn't - if you're going to drastically reduce your levels of one then making it carbs is probably the healthier option. It's perfectly possible to eat a fair amount of fibre without eating a lot of nutritive carbs - I've logged 24g of fibre but only 13g of net…
  • Could you point me in the direction of a journal article which shows that high cholesterol causes strokes? I'd also be quite interested in reading some papers which show a link between dietary fat and serum cholesterol levels.
  • What characteristics of low carb diets are dangerous exactly?
  • All you need to know about this diet is that it is wrong in terms of when each blood type evolved which means that the entire evolutionary basis of the diet is wrong. As someone said above, it is just like astrology - people who see a lot of themselves in their type are more likely to actually follow it to begin with and…
  • Drinking too much water can actually dehydrate you because it flushes out your electrolytes which your body needs to hold on to water. You should cut your water intake and eat something salty ASAP. If you can get to a pharmacy you should get some of those rehydrating salts that you take when you have diarrhea.
  • I've just weighed my largish head of broccoli and it was 470g, I'd say an average sized one would be about 350g which would be about 110 calories.
  • I was going to say vitamin K for the broken blood vessels too.
  • I've lost 4.5 pounds since Friday which was water weight coming off after my time of the month. The great thing is I didn't gain any weight with it going on, I just stayed the same for a week and a half.
  • Alcohol seems to speed up the metabolic rate enough to pretty much cover the calories you get from it. As long as you aren't drinking beer or mixing your spirits with anything that has sugar in it (including fruit juice), you're probably not getting nearly as many calories from it as you think.…
  • It could be bloating and inflammation settling down because of the exclusion diet. You should really see your doctor about it though.
  • Could be magnesium deficiency.
  • If it was just a case of narrow hips then you'd be a rectangle, triangle or maybe even hourglass shape depending on how the rest of you is built. Having all of your weight going on your top half is the insulin. Even when I was 70 pounds overweight I had very little fat on my legs, arms or face - it was all on my torso and…
  • Apple shapes are apple shaped because high insulin levels cause fat to be stored around the middle. So being apple shaped is actually a symptom of insulin resistance which is why apples shouldn't be eating many carbs.
  • I seem to have turned into a walking addict - I've walked 26 miles so far this week. I walked 9.5 miles yesterday so I'll probably just do about 3 miles today.
  • Fillet steak with roast celeriac and peppercorn sauce.
  • I've had a peek at your diary and yesterday looks like it was a particularly high carb day for you. Have you had your blood sugar checked recently? Being very thirsty is a symptom of high blood sugar.
  • 15 pounds by cutting out high carb foods with only a small bit of walking. I've lost 10 pounds in each of the two months since by slowly upping my walking and lowering my carbs.
  • Skirts are the way to go. I lost about 6 inches from my waist before I had to stop wearing my last skirt. When I bought it it was a bit tight even when I wore it quite high and as I lost weight it just sat lower and lower and I stopped wearing it when it was in danger of falling off. I'm sure I would have had to buy 2-3…
  • I've also been low carbing for three months. I've lost 36 pounds and 7/8 inches from my waist. I have so much more energy than I used to and just generally feel a lot happier - I've just started the process of weaning myself of my anti depressants. My fasting blood glucose has gone from 5.4 (borderline pre-diabetic) to 4…
