  • I LOVE my Flex - I wear it 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and it keeps me honest about my activity level. It is a real motivator. The only "con" that I can think of is that it doesn't track exercise if it doesn't involve moving your feet much. I do Yoga, which can be very active, but it never gives me any "Active" minutes…
  • I had this dilemma last night and I wasn't hungry after I ate my dinner (550 calories) and I still had over 1000 calories left since I had really done a lot of extra exercise. I just left it in my "account" so to speak and thought about how great it would feel on the scale this morning. Guess what? UP A FREAKIN' POUND THIS…
  • I made the mistake of saying Lightly Active and then adding in my dog walks that I have done everyday for more than 20 years as extra exercise! LOL Took me a couple of days of doing that to see that it was kind of crazy to consider what I used to make myself appear active as EXTRA! LOL
  • I sometimes wonder about the "science' of weight loss. Seems so simple and yet our bodies are so complicated. I have found that my body lets go of weight more easily if I eat more protein and it is sluggish if my calories are mainly vegetable,salad-type stuff, fruit calories or other carbs, that being said, I also do well…
  • I live in the Sierra Nevada mountains so my "walk" is not really what most people think of as a walk. There is no flat, it is all up and down. My heart rate monitor says that in the 30 minutes (I walk about 2 miles, so it is a fast walk) I burn about 115 calories. I didn't list myself as sedentary but as the next one above…
  • My personal experience with this is that it can certainly happen that you gain weight on 1200 calories. It happened to me. I had limited my intake of calories to somewhere around 1200 (sometimes a bit more, sometimes a bit less) for over 6 years. I maintained on that amount of calories while doing Zumba 3 days per week,…
  • I used to tell myself the same thing as you do : If I would just exercise, I would lose this extra weight. Only thing is, all of the studies are now showing that weight loss is 80% what you eat and 20% activity! That's good news/bad news, right? :noway: Anyway, I have found that the more protein I pump into my daily intake…
  • She didn't say she didn't like skinny or that anyone who did want that as their goal was a bad person. She just said she wasn't here to get skinny. Too much projection of other peoples' feelings, goals, negative body images and all the other baggage we carry with us in our lives on this thread. I say, your goal is your…
  • Bama56 - You are a ROCKSTAR! My hat is off to you. :flowerforyou:
  • I don't think you can stop logging your calories if that is what you are used to at this point. It is so easy to let one thing lead to another especially if you are back in school and not focused on your maintenance but on the important work you must do there. I have found that it is much easier to maintain with…
  • I lost 54 pounds in 2007 and have maintained since then. It has been easy at times and hard at times. I used NutriSystems to lose the weight and then to maintain for the next 3 years or so. The past 3 years have been on my own with some ups and downs but as long as you stay on top of the numbers, and keep focused on the…
  • I am 5'6" and 57 years old. I went from 196 to 144 and feel great. I actually went down to 139 but I was TOOOOOO skinny at that weight for my age. Even with my workout schedule and Zumba I just looked scrawny. Everyone is different. I don't know how to post photos here on this site but if someone tells me how, I can do…
  • I plan to go to the gym in the morning for a little cardio and weights and then a great long shower while my husband takes a sauna. We are alone this year except for my parents so we have broken with tradition and are going to a really lovely restaurant in town for a midafternoon dinner. I won't be tempted by the dessert…
  • I try to over-estimate on portion sizes but sometimes forget the little add-ons like a tsp of lite butter or 5 jelly beans. Nothing big but if you do it consistently it can add up. The exercise thing is a bit trickier. I don't have a heart rate monitor so I use the machine totals or I find someone in my Zumba class who…
  • Technically, a calorie is a calorie. However, that being said, some calories are worse than others. HUH? Eating that much sugar (peanut butter cup!) will feel good now but in a little while you will feel like you need a pick me up, something to take you back to the high sugar gives you. So you are more likely to slip…
  • Congratulations! Isn't it a wonderful feeling? I remember when I got to a size 8, I sat down on the floor of the dressing room and cried.
  • I think that if you crave carbs, you probably should be thinking about cutting out at least the processed, white ones...When I eat carbs, I find myself hungry in an hour or so. I do better consuming higher amounts of protein, even dairy proteins like yogurt, milk and cheese. Everyone is different but for sure, DO NOT…
  • Sounds like a pretty full "plate" so to speak! You are doing so many life changing activities right now that gosh, it has to come out somehow! You aren't eating to get through it so your body probably just said, "Crap, I gotta blow off some steam here!" No biggie. Just have a good cry, blow your nose and look in the mirror…
  • I am thinking of getting a Wii just to do Zumba at home! I LOVE my Zumba classes at the gym but it is getting harder to do three times per week there for me. Glad to hear this was a great workout for you!
  • Good luck to you! Just working the late shift can play havoc with your metabolism so be really careful - make sure you get some exercise! Losing weight is a commitment to lifestyle change and mental changes if you want to get slim and stay that way forever!
  • Go out and buy a really good digital scale. I have one that keeps track of my weight for me - tells me when I have lost a pound or gained it. DO NOT WEIGH YOURSELF ANY PLACE OTHER THAN AT YOUR HOUSE. Don't try out someone elses scale unless you are ready to disregard what it says. The doctors' scales are usually accurate…
  • Where are we going? :)
  • I don't add for the floor ex I do after cardio - I figure it is just an extra "cushion" for calories because let's face it, it is impossible to be exactly on with your calorie counts every day. M
  • I have this "problem" too but here is what I know - of all the choices to be "over" on your eating plan - good quality protein (not the red meat kind) is not bad for you. It can be hard on the kidneys (or is it liver?) if you are excessively over like on the old Atkins diet but a moderate amount over is not going to hurt…
  • #1 Being lied to #2 My husband calling me "Doll" Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr #3 People who don't turn off the beeping sound for the focus on their cameras #4 Service people who act like you should be happy to take the morning off for a service call and have them show up at 4pm #5…
  • Dina - It looks like you already know how to keep yourself on track and you probably already know that 50 pounds by July is a huge goal if you have already lost 77 pounds! Wow! No matter how much you lose between now and July I bet you already look pretty darn fantastic! Good luck! Mary
  • I just have one comment about Lean Cuisine and that is that they do not contain enough protein for the amount of calories. I find myself looking around for something to eat in a couple of hours after eating them.
