Internet. That and planning for the Zombiepocalypse...

Here is the calculator I use, if it helps http://www.nhs.uk/Tools/Pages/Healthyweightcalculator.aspx

my goals include: - get to healthy BMI (24.9 or less) before end of April - up my maximum distance of a run from 5.85 miles to 10 miles before end of July (a year after I started being able to run without taking walking breaks) - do at least one full bodyweight pull-up before the end of the year (I can attack this from two…

I'd agree if it was just stone. However we use stones and pounds. I've never met anyone that uses stones without lbs. It's not 14.928 stones that is commonly used, it's 14 stone 13. It makes the overall number more meaningful to those brought up using it. 160lb, 170lb 225lb are all fairly meaningless to me. However 11st…

This is my favourite answer so far! (we also add random extra vowels into words, but that's so we can win at Scrabble - look up the Eddie Izzard sketch)

Not sure. We measure our height in feet and inches too. I don't say 'I'm 180 lbs' nor do I say 'I'm 79 inches tall'. I'm 12st 12lb and 5'9". ;) Interestingly, under normal circumstances, I could tell you my weight in kilos quicker than I could in lbs as I'm weighed in metric at the gym.

where does the rest come from?

I'm impressed with your dedication. Here's mine: Personal trainer today. Walk tomorrow. Decent walk or run on Christmas eve. Christmas: granola for breakfast, roast dinner and trimmings for lunch, panna cotta for dessert, turkey and ham sandwiches for dinner Mmmince pies :p . (to heck with the calories, if I'm over, I'm…

I definitely like ones with a strap higher up - keeps the up & down motion under control! I had a shock absorber like that & it did the trick (but I couldn't fasten the top strap without hubby's help). The more recent panache discovery is good because I can do it up myself!

I'm a 34F and the best bra I've found is this one by Panache http://www.bravissimo.com/products/lingerie/sports-bras/panache-sports-bra/multi-print/pr100mup/?level=1 Shock absorber are pretty good too. I normally go down a cup size in a sports bra to hold everything in a little bit tighter.

I'm going to try to keep as active as possible round it. I plan to have a run on Christmas eve and on Boxing Day. Booked a load of PT sessions today including next Saturday, Monday 22nd and Sunday 28th to ensure I'm back to good habits as soon as possible after the holiday. Like sabine says - I'm only going to eat the…

Please see a doctor/nutritionist - they'll be able to give you advice on upping your calorie intake in a healthy way. 300 net calories (in your own words 'at the most') will result in malnutrition regardless of your age, weight or height. Your current method of eating is seriously unhealthy, you should definitely be eating…

I'll track as best I can but I won't beat myself up when I go over my goal calorie intake - one day won't ruin my progress. Part of making these improvements stick is learning how to cope with special occasions.

I can only imagine that your auntie ate a lot of rice and either didn't replace it with anything or replaced it with high-bulk low-calorie foods (vegetables) and inadvertently created a calorie deficit. I've lost 38lb so far and eat rice regularly.
-
A good way of indicating you're really enjoying what you're eating is asking for the recipe - you can have a small serving of it, say how much you enjoy it and ask for the recipe, saying you'd like to be able to make it at home. Or you could explain that you don't have a big appetite before sitting down to eat so the cook…

If I'm having an 'I want to eat all the foods' day, exercise really helps curb my appetite.

I felt the same when I started out - I prefer men's tops for that reason - the sleeves are a bit longer and cover up more (plus there's no low-cut necklines). I started out in 2xl men's clothes.

I get a lot from Karrimor at Sports Direct - really reasonable - go up to a UK size 20. The fabrics wick moisture away from your skin so you feel cool. Now I'm a bit trimmer I'm also getting stuff from Fabletics - certainly good for the 1/2 price initial outfit even if you opt out every month thereafter. Hope you find…

Absolutely - something that should always have been 'just a number' somehow becomes a large part of your identity. You also build up all these false perceptions about the magical people who manage to be slim ('they only eat lettuce' for example and 'they don't get hunger cues' are amongst the rubbish things I've told…

And in answer to OP - I believe at the beginning of my weight loss I probably said similar. For me it was that having been very overweight for so long I couldn't relate to a small frame and couldn't picture myself ever getting there. Setting my initial goal at the very top end of healthy made it feel more achievable, and…

This is exactly what I plan to do. My first goal is for the very top end of healthy BMI (my priority is my health) - this seemed a very long way away when I started. When I get there I'll work out how much leeway I want and want appearance changes I want.

Many different brands/types of running sock so I can discover the perfect pair

The only other option I can see is to do it 3 nutrients at a time using usda data ndb.nal.usda.gov/ndb/nutrients/index downloading as csv, then stitching the lists together. Not sure I could be bothered though!

what about this? foodnutritiontable.com/nutritions/ You'd only have to look at 26 pages rather than one per food. (ETA no micronutrients though, sorry)

Another recommendation for Panache sports bras - I normally take a 36FF but I go down to an E cup for my sports bras as it's the only way I feel properly supported when running/jumping. I have 4 of this bra as it's so good. You can do up the racer back yourself over the top of your shoulders and it adds extra support at…

...because I've just noticed that I've ticked over from obese into overweight - the next time I'm not overweight needs to be when I'm healthy weight (hopefully in about a year).

Exactly what I thought. Try to have an extra cup or two of water before working out (so you're hydrated going into your workout) then sip at water during your cardio.
