  • By maintaining a diet of an average of 65/g per day of carbs, over the last year and a half I've lost almost 60 pounds and nearly 80 inches. My body fat has gone from 36% to 27% (using a handheld gadget, not a chart). I did A LOT of experimenting, tinkering, and researching before finally discovering what worked for my…
  • I'm not a fish lover but I've found ways to tolerate really mild fish like tilapia, halibut, and cod. I really like fish tacos. By the time you season it and shred it up....and hide it in a tortilla under a load of toppings....you almost think you're eating chicken. Breading it with almonds or cornflakes or salt & vinegar…
  • Apparently no one but the OP read my post. It addresses many of the things that everyone is arguing about. Just sayin'.
  • Carbs do not make you fat. Eating above your maintenance calories makes you fat. However, macronutrient management is crucial. Varying degrees of macronutients is the primary difference between all the diet plans on the market. What diet plan works for you depends on what macronutrient percentage works best for your body.…
  • My vote is for Conquistador by 30 Seconds to Mars. I like it 1000X more than the other choices because.....30 Seconds to Mars. Oh, yeah. :)
  • That is what food is - fuel. Calories are a unit of energy. You need calories to have energy. Without calories, you're like a car without fuel....you're not going anywhere. And to take that car analogy further - for me, not eating breakfast is like attempting a long roadtrip without stopping at the gas station to fill up…
  • I definitely prefer to run alone. I'm very results-focused so I need to be able to try to increase my pace, distance, etc. It's also my chance to get rid of all the "head stuff" that's troubling me. And I love to just be able to jam out to some awesome tuneage. However, it's also important to me to be connected with other…
  • If I skip breakfast, it's a disaster. I'm chasing the hungries all day long, I make poor food choices, and I just in general feel crappy. So, for me, breakfast is absolutely essential. My theory is that by morning I have been fasting for 12+ hours so I need fuel to function and get through my day. I do not understand…
  • From a quick look at your food diary, I'd say your carbs are high because you're drinking too much juice and eating too much processed food. Try eating "real" food - meat, dairy, veggies, fruit - and you'll find it's pretty easy to eat higher protein, lower carb.
  • Ah, but they keep well in the freezer all year long! (See my post.) :)
  • This is a really OLD thread but I'll chime in anyway because it's important to understand that body type matters a lot. It seems like a common answer here is that women who weigh 145 are wearing size 8. However, I am 5'6" and 168 pounds and wearing size 8 (in several different brands). However, my body shape is strawberry…
  • I started gaining when I was about 8 years. Part of it was that I was severely hypoglycemic/insulin resistant and I learned that food made me feel better. Plus, I grew up on a farm and my mother cooked like a farm wife - hearty meals with lots of starch followed by ample desserts. I gained weight for the next 25+ years…
  • Cadbury Creme Eggs! When they're discounted after Easter, I buy a year's supply and store them in the freezer. I eat one per month and it's a total splurge that I refuse to feel guilty for. Also, Vosges Dark Chocolate Bacon Bar and Green & Black's with crystallized ginger and dark chocolate. I usually have one of those in…
  • Salad with Goat Cheese Pecan Balls, Sage-Garlic-Rosemary Marinated Chicken, and Berries ~artisan lettuce ~goat cheese formed into balls, rolled in pecans, and fried until pecans are browned and cheese is melty ~ Sage-Garlic-Rosemary Marinated Chicken…
  • Color Runs are definitely not for someone looking for a serious athletic race. It's just about having FUN. I did one last year with friends and we had a total blast. It was very well organized and we didn't have any bad experiences with the color throwers. What I really loved was seeing how this event brought out people…
  • It's so common where I live that I never even thought to question it. All the female runners do it....and not just the skinny ones.
  • Oh, thank goodness.....I finally found where all the MFP grown-ups hang out! The forums have been scaring me with all the immaturity and ridiculousness but I think I'll feel safe here! Hi everyone!
