I was going to post this but I saw my post already... lol. THIS!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry, I guess a better title would be HOW to start lifting? And do I need to be at a surplus or deficit to cut fat while building muscle?

You deserve an award

Amazing

Sophomore here. Lost 36 pounds over the summer. Looking to lose 34 more during the school year.
-
Realistic- yes ; Safe- probably not
-
130 is a little on the low side for a 5'10. I'm 5'5, and I wouldn't even want to go below 128/130.
-
I've lost all my weight by not counting calories. For me its really just working out and portion control.
-
2.5 weeks!
-
Lack of water has never made me weigh more. It doesn't even make any sense to me just thinking about it.
-
At 5'4, you look 145-160. And I don't see anything wrong with losing 35 pounds at that weight/height. Your BF is probably 26%+. This is a guess though, it might be way off. Why do you need people guessing your weight/BF?

Your gym should have WiFi, just save your favorite tv show for your cardio workouts or listen to music. I enjoy cardio a lot because I'm in my own world just thinking and working out.
-
Looking at a picture of me two years ago and comparing it to now. I looked way better two years ago.
-
That's healthy on the first month. I lost 15 in my first month too but from now on it'll be like 8-9 pounds / month.
-
Started in June, lost 26 pounds already. 45 more to go :)
-
Then you must be consuming a lot of food. I cycle 20 miles everyday and 40 some other days and I've been losing at 2-3 pounds / week since I started. You don't build muscles from cardio
-
Pear tastes better than Apple, IMO.
-
Wrong! Stretch marks occur when there is a sharp change in your boy, whether gaining or losing such that your skin can't handle the sudden change causing the dermis to tear and hence forming a scar.
-
Depends, I do it everyday to see the gradual falling trend. A very high reading makes me want to workout more, a very low reading makes me satisfied with my workout.
-
I started doing this and I definitely lose more weight. I don't think you lose a lot of muscle unless you have low BF, there is no reason for your body to burn a lot of muscle when you have so much fat.
-
NOOOOOOO! Captcha's are annoying. Just delete the threads as soon as you see them, also get more MODS, it'll be easier to stem this.
-
I agree. Me lol.
-
2.5 is roughly a kg, I don't see anything aggressive in losing a kg a week.
-
4.4 pounds when I starve, 2.2 when I don't
-
I just lost 20 pounds and one of my friends who came by said "Wow! you look fatter" Seriously, I don't give two s****s what anybody says anymore. I'm just going to do me till I reach my goal.
-
That's exactly what I lost in my first two weeks, it'll roughly be 2 a week from now on.
-
I just started doing it this week and I've lost 5 pounds!!!! Compared to my 2 pounds before, just make sure you don't binge when you eat. It's great!
-
My BF is 29%, so yes it is quite high. I was actually at 145 2 years ago until I just let myself go and I didn't have abs then.
-
It really doesn't matter, it just depends on when you eat/ when you drink water. People are saying 3-4 pounds because they usually don't eat before weigh in the morning but weigh in after eating in the night. Eating/Water adds temporary weight so your true weight is on an empty stomach.

@Ninkyou My post was in response to some posters not to OP but to answer your question clearly OP just started, I think it might be a little too early to say what works and what doesn't. @JackieO524 I know exactly what it means, there are several dictionary connotations.
