too funny and true!

oh yes - reminds me, time to go do that! LOL

Maybe it is just me, but if I was on death row and about to be put to death, I'd be INNOCENT and wouldn't feel like eating. I'm pretty sure that eating $25 worth of anything is the last thing that would be on my mind. or maybe chocolate.... LOL.

I did it for a while - kind of easing into it (first for an hour, then 2, etc. up to 4 hours). it really builds your abdominal muscles, etc. Why did I stop? Hmmmmm. Must get back to it!!!

I personally tend to keep adding distance. The speed will pick up from practice and speed workouts once a week or so. For fitness, the longer you run the more calories you are going to burn. And there is not a thing wrong with walking intervals _ like the Galloway method. So, whatever works for you....but you can keep…

I also quit WW for MFP - although I essentially still follow the WW diet just use here for tracking and not paying the weekly or online fee. There is great support here and lots of good information!

You are absolutely right - no need to have the big guilt trip or beat yourself up. We are in this for life, so an occasional splurge does not need to make us feel GUILTY.

Great job! Can't is not allowed in our vocabulary! Yes we can! I started walking with little running intervals about 2 years ago. I now run races! Am I fast? Not at all. Am I proud of myself? Yes I am! Can I? Yes I can!! way to be inspirational!

At first, hubby was not overly supportive. I cooked him separate stuff and just didn't make a big deal of it. Over time, he has become more and more supportive. Maybe he just had to see I was serious this time and it wasn't a "fad." Now, he eats the same thing I eat and he supports me enthusiastically and occasionally goes…

From my extremely amateur experience - as I build muscle, it is because of general working out and fitness and strength training along with improved diet - so I am losing fat as I build. The muscle formation doesn't cause fat loss but it happens alongside the fat loss, so I can see muscle and tone formation and it is…

Walmart weirdness is an event in shopping in itself. I think one burns extra calories dodging the weirdness and processing the cashiers' general surliness and attitude. In fact, if I have a non-weird and/or pleasant experience in Walmart, I consider it noteworthy and rush to go buy a lottery ticket.

I have 3 Billy Blanks Tae Bo DVDs - they run from 50-60 minutes and are kick butt! They burn calories, make me sweat, and have really given me some nice muscle definition!

As above suggestion, I would average the two figures and assume the best figure lies in the middle. I usually use 3 different sources and then average the 3, including my Garmin and this site: http://www.braydenwm.com/calburn.htm If I don't have a 3rd site, I use the MFP figure for my third input - take the average and its…

Being of the age from the original bra-burning generation, I was braless for a good 20 years! I see nothing wrong with it at all. I don't think my daughter (age 28) even owns a bra. LOL. Now that I'm older, I still occasionally do so just not when I run.

This may the single best web site of useful information I have ever seen and I've seen a LOT of stuff. Thanks hugely for sharing as it is absolutely excellent! it should be required reading for us MFPers!

I always just go by overall pace and distance. So, if I walk/jog/wog 3 miles in 30 minutes (including intervals), that is 10 minutes per mile and most "experts" agree you burn 100 calories per mile (for a 150-pound person and you can adjust according to your weight) so whether inside or out, I have my distance and my time…

check with your doctor, but typically cross training is great - if you can't swim, how about elliptical and biking and/or stationary bike. Those are typically acceptable non-impact activities that are allowed but, of course, check with your doctor first.

So much useful information in all the web sites give out here. I appreciate the OP posting and the subsequent discussion.

Absolutely nothing to be disappointed about especially for your first race and first OUTSIDE. Now, try to get outside now and then as it is way different .... and sign up for your next race! Congratulations on a well run race! You are awesome!

Both of these jewels are valuable points to life. Anger is an entirely wasted emotion.

58 and healthier and more active than I've been in 30 years! I love MFP - although I don't really consider myself an "older folk" odder, maybe..... Hope people will add me if they'd like! I've on MFP for about 18 months

OMG! That is fabulous with 35 great ideas!

Have to agree with many on here - treadmill vastly different and is actually easier (it propels your feet for you whereas outside you have to do it yourself). But there is a good use for the treadmill, particularly when you are in Arizona heat. Of course, if your test will be outside, you need to do some running outside -…

wouldn't that be a great experiment though, really? Do do 1500 calories of crap for a month - then 1500 calories of good stuff. For me, the important thing is that I feel so much more energetic and better mood on healthier food so I'm not sure it would matter. I'm not just in it for weight loss - I'm in for fitness factor!…

I don't have PCOS but have read a great deal of literature on the low glycemic index plan and, as some have mentioned, this was supposedly developed primarily for those with PCOS and insulin resistance. It is a very healthy and reasonable lifestyle method, low glycemic index!

forgive yourself, get back on the wagon, and strap yourself onto it so you don't jump off. It is a lifestyle. We aren't perfect. We over indulge occasionally but we immediately get back on the healthy plan and throw in some extra exercise. However, don't berate yourself for it. It happened. It's over. If you over react to…

My current size is 10 (US) which is the only size that I will have. As clothes get too large, they immediately go to Goodwill. It is absolutely sabotage to keep "fat" clothes as your safety net. You must have the mentality that you will not be fat again. ever. Give the clothes away. The minute something feels snug, you…

Bad food habits and little exercise and I gained probably about 5 pounds a year - and 20 years later found myself almost 100 pounds overweight. A pound a month even seems hardly anything...nothing to worry about. But the minute you find yourself buying a large size of clothing you should say WAIT A MINUTE!!! For me, I…

Awesome! The best I've done is 2 minutes. I need to work on that some more as it is soooooo good for so many muscles! Great job!
