You can lap your house. I do it all the time. It is a great way to get steps in w/o going outside in bad weather.

Well, it depends on your stride length. Mine is 24 inches. So for me 10,000 steps is almost 4 miles. 5280 feet is one mile. So, on average 10,000 steps in 5 miles for most people. For me, I have a very short stride so it is less.

We use it because it is low calorie and my son is a vegetarian. I don't like it alone but in cereal, cooking or coffee it works great. My son LOVES it for drinking and any other reason.
