  • You can have a "cheat meal" without it having to be junk food. I believe the reasoning behind it is to give your metabolism a little jolt to keep it burning efficiently. The only thing needed to do that is a jump in calories but it can come in any form you like. For some, that may be junk food, for others you can just eat…
  • I weigh in every morning, first thing after I wake up, but I only record my weight on MFP each Friday. Daily weigh-ins can be a real encouragement because losing even .2 pounds is moving in the right direction. And as a previous comment stated, if it moves up a little you can stay on top of it and turn it around right away.
  • It may increase your appetite so have healthy snacks at the ready. Be prepared for insomnia as well, which can also increase appetite because you'll feel tired. But for 6 days, I agree with the others -- no worries.
  • It's my goal to wear a size 10 pair of Levi's!
  • Years ago I lost 79 pounds in 6 months without exercising at all. I didn't even count calories. And I ate whatever I wanted. It was all about listening to my body's signals. I only ate when I was truly PHYSICALLY hungry (listen for the growl) and stopped when I was SATISFIED (not "full"). I fell into a pattern of eating…
  • I'm in! I will shoot for 150 for March!!
  • Thank you for posting!!! You look AWESOME! Very inspirational!
  • I agree with those supporting the idea that it doesn't matter how late you eat as long as you stay within your calorie count. I think the reason eating later is discouraged is because oftentimes the calories consumed later in the evening are empty calories -- like chips or ice cream -- in front of the TV. THAT kind of…
  • I had similar problems with my hip during my 3rd pregnancy and went to PT at that time. Never had any more problems with it after the baby was born tho. I am a runner and this sounds really odd. I would recommend seeing a dr. about it. Perhaps all you need is some PT with strengthening exercises to get those joints firmed…
  • I love pork loin chops either grilled or broiled. You can get whole pork loins on sale fairly regularly and have the butcher slice them into chops that you can divide up into packages and freeze. Pork loin is "the other white meat" and is very lean and tasty. Don't shy away from other lean meats either. Just get a good…
  • Ugh...I can so relate. Thanks for putting into words what I couldn't articulate to myself. Love your quote, "This isn't a game. It's life." Wrote that one down!
  • I've chosen to give up specific things and I've found it to actually be freeing. It takes the "should I or shouldn't I" question out of the equation. I can go to a potluck and walk right by the dessert table without flinching because it's just not an option. I gave up movie theater popcorn and I've come to the point where…
  • Can't say enough good things about running! I've been at it for 8 years now. When I started I could barely get around the corner without stopping. With perseverance I have extended my distances and improved my times. But, I'm not into going farther and farther or faster and faster -- that takes the fun out of it for me.…
  • "They" say that the better you eat early in the day, the less hungry you will be later on. I've found that to be true. Eat a good, healthy, filling breakfast every day. I also eat 4 meals a day -- breakfast, lunch, a light "dinner" at 4:00 and then another light "dinner" around 7:00. I go running between dinners. Make sure…
  • Go to a running store and have your gait analyzed so you know exactly what kind of shoes to get. It is worth it to pay more for really good shoes. Not every shoe works for every person. You'll know the right one as soon as you get it on your foot.
  • I recently decided to make a list of foods that I need to just plain avoid because (1) they aren't good for me, and (2) they tend to be "trigger" foods. I decided to be very specific. I think it's easier to cut out specific things than to make sweeping changes. While buttered popcorn and cinnamon rolls can cause me to eat…
  • There are so many variables when it comes to weight loss. Depending on the time of month, you could have been dealing with water weight. If you had a meal with high sodium, that also could account for water weight. Also, an 8 mile hike is pretty substantial (you go girl!) and you must remember that muscle weighs more than…
  • I'm no expert, but it truly is just matter of simple math. One pound = 3500 calories. In order to lose a pound, you need to burn 3500 more calories than you take in. So, if you end each day having burned 500 more calories than you consumed, you should lose one pound each week. The higher the deficit, the quicker you lose…
  • I drink slimfast for breakfast. But it is pretty high in sugar. And I would prefer to get my nutrients from natural sources. So, I've ordered a juicer and as soon as it arrives, I'll quit drinking slimfast. But, absent other options, I don't think it is a bad choice. However, I personally would not recommend substituting…
  • I slice up half of an avocado and a tomato for my turkey sandwiches. Mmmmmm!
  • I recently saw this documentary also and was blown away! It was eye-opening about how our "eating triangle" is totally upside down from what it should be. I'm more concerned about my overall nutrition than I am the weight loss aspect of juice fasting. I purchased a juicer and can't wait for it to arrive. I plan to do a…
  • Def get the new shoes! And before you go walking, wrap two strips of athletic tape around your foot to form an X across your arch, making it fairly tight. That has helped a friend of mine a lot!
