My nutritionist (who is also my father) says breakfast is critical. It kick starts your metabolism for the day. In fact, you should eat a large breakfast (of healthy foods) if you can. There is a corny phrase he uses: eat like a king in the morning, a prince in the afternoon, and a pauper in the evening. Your meals should…

Nope, if you are hypothyroid you must take medicine to fix it. If you're just a little off you can be OK, but if you have autoimmune thyroid disease like I do, your body will keep attacking your thyroid until it is completely dead....so you will just get worse and worse. And eventually, you would actually die from…

No kids here but it's a natural side effect. Sometimes is seems to all catch up with me at once and I end up going every 20-30 mins! But it does get better as your body gets used to it. Just plan ahead if you know you're going to be out and not have access to a bathroom. And to those teachers who say they can't leave their…

I love that Brit phrase...chuffed. :) Major congrats! It's always exciting to break into a new number category like that.

I'm a 34 D and that's after a reduction 10 yrs ago, so I know about needing support. <lol> I have had good luck with several made by Champion. I need underwires...anything else and I'm falling through the bottom. I have been using this one, which has underwires, extra fabric/padding over those wires, and has this great…

I have had the same issue at various times in my life and I did notice that being better hydrated and/or in better shape seems to have helped. I don't smell it while working out anymore but sometimes smell it a bit in the post workout shower. It is more prevalent in people who are doing low carb diets too. Never hurts to…

I'm 5'0" and although I was still curvy when I was 18 and weighed 100 lbs, I don't think that's a realistic goal for me at 35. I'm shooting for 115. I'd even be happy at 120. But honestly to the person who said 132 seemed "delusional" for 5'1"....it's actually a high normal for our short height. Unless you plan on having a…

If it's really truly a migraine, it could be the "stress" of your diet/exercise changes causing them. Remember migraines are a brain event (my god as we all know who have had one, how crazy they can be!) and not just a "really bad headache", so while not eating enough can cause changes in blood sugar which can cause normal…

Mine is set to 1200, and I was finding that hard to stick to on any rare days I didn't exercise. The best plan is to exercise every day to earn...keeping in mind that even if you don't go to the gym (which I don't on weekends) you can still earn by accounting for things you may do and not think of as exercise....like…

If the database here is right, it seems like one slice of cheese (like you get at a deli counter...thin and square) is about an ounce. If you're cutting it yourself from those rectangular blocks you get at the store, all bets are off. ;)

It really shouldn't be a problem, not at this amount. If you were doing Atkins and ate VERY high protein levels, that I would say is not so great for you (or your kidneys). I'm doing about what you're doing, and I'm mainly going over because I do one protein shake after my workout, which is helpful for recovery.

Omega fish oil helps a lot of things, including cholesterol and depression. I took this along with another supplement called red yeast rice (in capsules) and lowered my cholesterol 100 points (yes, 100) without pharmaceutical drugs. And yes, my cholesterol started out terrible (around 300 total), bad bad family history for…

My father (who is a nutritionist and does a lot of ongoing reading of the studies done) mentioned cinnamon as being positive relating to blood sugar. But my understanding wasn't that it wouldn't lower it on a long term basis (the way oatmeal can lower cholesterol). I believe it helps your body process the sugar it gets in…

If the machine lets you input your weight, age etc it will be more accurate, but my understanding is that they overestimate by about 20% typically. Your average heart rate over the course of your workout is a much better indicator. I have a really basic model and it doesn't tell me cals, but it gives me my average and max…

Some docs have a staff member contact you even if it's normal. But even if you're not in a "high risk" category sexually, you can still have a result called ASCUS - stands for atypical squamous cells of unknown significance. It's not normal per se, but it's not super abnormal either. It's usually just a sign of…

WOW - saw your ticker (LJCannon) and 172 lbs lost??? You're awesome! It IS really easy to make, and I thought this would be a good time/place to mention the "Slapchop" device (as in, "as seen on TV"/infomercial device) is a really great little device to have if you cut a lot of veggies and such for cooking. It cuts the…

Sek92 - I'm sorry I'm a lousy cook so I don't really know how to modify recipes successfully. Plus my husband is a sweetheart and is the one who cooks this for us. Logically I would think you could use dry beans instead of canned, but maybe you can cook them before adding them to the soup recipe at the appointed time??…

I use steel cut too, just with cinnamon and agave to sweeten, but I like the pumpkin idea! Maybe with some vanilla almond milk for me.

I'm not sure if you're looking for a sweetener to replace the fake ones, or just how to "detox" and get away from the fake stuff in general. Agave syrup is a sweetener kind of like honey, but it doesn't spike your blood sugar the way real sugar or honey does. It does have calories (60 per Tbsp), so if you need to add a lot…

I have a desk job so I am able to do it throughout the day, but I tend to pre-plan and log in the morning. This also helps make me stick to the plan, since it's already been logged. A lot harder to justify skipping that workout when I've already posted it. ;)

Oh gosh, SUCH a good question Meg, because I went camping (just overnight) last week and found it so hard to eat well. But we did discover one thing, if you have even the most basic camping stove (which I assume you do since you said "burgers"). I just posted a recipe for my Italian veggie soup with beans, in the recipe…

My father is a nutritionist and a super health nut. He says apples are good, the fiber offsets the fructose so your blood sugar doesn't spike, great to eat before or after a workout. And all I ever hear from him are suggestions on what else I can do to eat even *better*, so if HE says apples are good, I know they must be…

I'm not quite sure what "eaten terribly" means to you, as you said that phrase but then the cravings you described didn't sound like catastrophic failures. A pack of smarties in a day, as long as you otherwise stay under your calorie goal for the day, is not bad thing at all. I eat a small handful of gummi bears to keep my…

The system wants me to eat 1200 cals too and it is *tough*. But two things help...one, it really motivates me to exercise to earn those extra cals! :) But two, what you eat really starts to matter. Simple carbs go right through you almost as though you'd never eaten. I eat steel cut (i.e. whole grain not instant) oatmeal…

Hello, My father is a nutritionist and has me taking 2 shakes (1 scoop of whey protein powder in each shake) a day to increase my protein intake. As long as you are not doing a diet like Atkins which is very protein heavy, and do not have kidney disease already (ie are not on dialysis or have uncontrolled diabetes which…

are0721 - thanks for the encouraging words. I am doing a lot of cardio, but I know I need to add some weight training too. My father has been helping me improve my diet over the past couple of months, I've just been so disappointed that I've put so much work in for zero results. So far what I've tracked shows me not eating…

MyVenus - I do 40-45 mins of elliptical (I have very bad feet so I have to have that no-impact exercise) 5x/wk. I'm working out at 80-85% of max heart rate, so we're talking about a high intensity workout. I have an appt with the endocrinologist at the end of the month...but they say the best treatment for PCOS is weight…
