  • I eat chicken almost every day. But I make it all kinds of different ways or with different sauces and marinades to make it different meals. I'm really not all that crazy about vegetables, but I eat lots of them because I know they're good for me. Those same sauces and marinades that make the chicken more interesting work…
  • Great job! I'm training for a hypothetical half-marathon. I'm not actually doing on (yet), but I just want to be able to go the distance. My brother and niece are my racing buddies, and they're doing one in the fall, but I can't do the one they're doing. I usually run 3x a week and don't like to run on back to back days. I…
  • e) I wish I bought a better bench. I bought a cheap one and the upright posts are just a smidge too narrow. f) mostly based on Stronglifts, but I don't increase weight quite as much or as often. I had a back injury last summer and I'm very cautious.
  • a) Bench, barbell, plates, adjustable dumbbells that take plates. b) Spare bedroom. c) It's out all the time. d) Squat rack of some sort. I don't really have room for it, so for now, I do barbell hack squats. Seems to get the job done well enough.
  • I prefer beef for hamburgers, usually 85/15 or 80/20. Ground turkey is ok for meatballs, but I still prefer beef.
  • I prefer running outside. The dreadmill is just so boring! Even with a tv on or music, all I can focus on is the slow progression of numbers on the display. Outside, I'm focusing on not stepping in a pothole and avoiding traffic, and I'm not paying as much attention to the actual act of running. Plus, outside, there's…
  • I go more by how clothes fit, measurements and progress photos than the scale. I do weigh myself, but a lot of times it's a matter of flipping off the scale and laughing at strange fluctuations or slow loss. No one else can see the number on the scale. It doesn't matter.
  • I didn't go to my 10th, but went to my 20th and enjoyed myself. I'm closer friends now with some of my classmates than I was in high school. My 25th is this year.
  • I never understood the point. I can see saying "I lost __ inches from my waist," but just saying, "I lost __ inches," makes no sense to me. How many places are you measuring? Neck, chest, bust, underbust, natural waist, waist at belly button, upper hips, lower hips, bicep, forearm, wrist, thigh, above the knee, calf,…
  • Butter. Sometimes a sprinkle of parm or french fried onion bits. Sometimes a little marinade or a drizzle of ranch dressing. Sometimes mixed in with rice or pasta dishes.
  • Some recent pics. I had a lower back injury about a year ago and couldn't exercise for a while, and that combined with a few rounds of steroids and a touch of depression/apathy did a number on me. I was given the OK to start running again in October when I took the first set of pics, but didn't really get serious until…
  • From a pure vanity standpoint, there's a quote attributed to Catherine Deneuve that goes something like, "After a certain age, you have to chose between your fanny* and your face." * NOT the UK meaning of fanny, I hope. ;) I'd rather have slightly higher BF and not have the face of the Crypt Keeper. I'm not saying that all…
  • Not much you can do when you're out of groceries, except plan for next time. Be sure to include some tasty snacks that won't kill your calorie budget. Like strawberries... you can have about 250 grams of strawberries (pretty much a big bowl) for the same amount of calories as one little pouch of fruit snacks. Squirt a…
  • With only 17 pounds to lose, you should have your settings to lose a half pound a week, not 1.5 lbs a week. No wonder you're shaky and hungry and burn out all your calories by lunch. You created too large of a deficit. :)
  • Trail running. It's everything I love about hiking, but moving too fast for the mosquitoes to get me.
  • There's a difference between "paying attention to macros" and "stressing over macros." As long as I'm in the ballpark most days, that's enough for me. I aim for over 100g of protein. Most days, I'm around 120. If I'm at 87 one day, I'm not going to have a protein shake just to catch up.
  • If you run 6 miles with any kind of regularity and only have 10 pounds to lose, your calorie goal should be way higher than 1240, unless you're about 4' tall. If you're not going to eat your exercise calories, be sure to adjust your activity level.
  • I find running outside easier, too. Airflow is a big part of it, I'm sure. Even with fans going, I feel stifled running indoors. And I don't run at once absolutely consistent pace. Being forced to run at the exact pace of the treadmill just feel unnatural to me. Now, I exclusively run outdoors. I hate the dreadmill more…
  • My boobs don't change much whether I gain or lose - I wear the same bras whether I'm 160 lbs or 130, I just need to adjust the straps and bands a bit. If I start getting a little too bony in the chest, I just increase my calories.
  • I haven't read all the posts, but could it be more a matter of eating too much rather than WHAT you ate? You said you went over your calories. You don't say by how much, but if you ate a normal day's worth of food and then stuffed down two pieces of cake, that could make you feel sick and you'd likely feel just as sick if…
  • Deleted.
  • You sit on the curb after a run....
  • I lost weight mostly running for exercise. Even running in my very hilly neighborhood, it didn't do much for my bum. It was smaller, sure, but kind of flat and droopy. Lifting, on the other hand, gave me a wonderfully perky bottom. I don't particularly enjoy lifting, and I hated going to the gym. I bought weights for home…
  • I'll either update the recipe, or just log each ingredient.
  • Personally, I prefer a TDEE approach, but I'll still allow some wiggle room. If I know I did far more exercise than usual and I'm really hungry, I'll eat a little more. If my pants start getting too tight, I'll either start exercising more or eating less.
  • I quit going to a gym 3 years ago, but perfume and cologne were my biggest peeves. Sometimes it was strong enough to choke me. If I'm working out, I'm breathing hard enough as it is! A more minor peeve was at my gym, there were dozens of treadmills, but only one or two that had really good airflow from the ceiling fans.…
  • This reminds me of Sara's epic thread from a few years ago: http://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/903628/one-year-of-barbells-and-ice-cream-my-story-so-far-pics/
  • If you feel like you have to give up all your favorite foods and can't go out to eat, maybe your calorie goal is too restrictive. By your ticker, you only wanted to lose 11 pounds total, and you've lost 4. With that small amount of weight to lose, you should be eating only about 250 calories below maintenance to lose a…
  • Seriously. This is the view out my front door. I see it every day. I've lived here 17 years. I bought donuts there three times. And I frickin' love donuts.
  • The first time I ever ran 5k, I was watching a special on bacon on the food channel. I was transfixed.
