  • Just as an FYI, the "response" isn't a response from the woman at the game, but a blogger writing from her point of view. It's still a powerful message. If you go to the Anti-Jared facebook page, he explains it.
  • So far, I'm ok reading this, but usually, yes. If I see a baby yawn, I'm done.
  • The second day of each week was always the hardest for me. Day one, I'd think "Woo! Yeah! I got this!" then the second day, I think I'd push myself just a little harder and I'd think, "UGH! I can't!" Then day three, I'd be back to "Woo! Yeah!" And yeah, it's supposed to be three days a week, or every other day.
  • I am a Grammar Nazi, but I'm also dyslexic. I know damn well if I correct someone else's grammar or spelling, I'll write the word "the" as "teh." So I don't.
  • Game of Thrones Walking Dead Vikings Outlander Doctor Who Sherlock The Middle & Modern Family are pretty much the only sitcoms I watch. Also love the Daily Show, the Nightly Show and Last Week Tonight. And Golden Girls & Frasier reruns on the Hallmark channel for when I can't sleep.
  • I can run outside anywhere. I have a weight bench and barbell in a spare bedroom. The only pool I can fit in my yard is an 8 foot wading pool. ;) I'm not opposed to swimming. It's just not practical for me. I don't like going TO a gym, and the ones with pools aren't in my budget even if I did.
  • I don't track on weekends, holidays, or sometimes, when I just don't feel like doing it. That doesn't mean I eat everything in sight, but it's nice to just nibble on a handful of pretzels without weighing them on the scale and logging them on MFP. I look at it as the same thing as taking a walk interval when out running.…
  • I buy boneless skinless chicken, but I trim off the excess fat and yucky squidgy bits and feed it to the dog raw. He loves it, and it keeps the trimmings from stinking up my garbage.
  • I'm more likely to kill someone if I don't get my carbs. My preciouses.
  • My bleary eyes saw this on the sidebar of the home page and I thought it read, "Things that make you irrationally hungry." Like a commercial for Chili's right after I ate dinner. SW Eggrolls always look like the best idea ever.
  • I stick the whole box in the microwave. More to keep the cats from sitting on them than to avoid seeing them, but I do forget they're there. I'll eat a donut if it easily fits my calories (ie, if I've run 5-6 miles) or on a weekend. I always allow extra wiggle room on weekends. And if there's post-race donuts after I run a…
  • Same here. I lost weight calorie counting, kept it off for a couple years logging sporadically, but gained 15-20 with depression and injury that made me unable to keep up the level of activity I'd need to support the way I like to eat (and not logging my food). For me, if I think of it as a lifetime thing, I'll feel…
  • A lot of calorie counting plans include the exercise you say you'll do in your calorie goal. MFP doesn't include it until you log it. So when you add the calories you "earn" from exercise, your goal might end up being closer to 1800. I also think, for some people at least, the default calorie goals are a little low. I live…
  • I used to hate running, for all the reasons you listed. It hurt. And that's because I was running (or trying to run) too fast and too long, and didn't realize I had to built up slowly and learn to run. Couch to 5k was great. I've been running for four years now, and at this stage, I've come to realize that I enjoy running…
  • When I was in my late teens and early 20s, I thought the same thing, too. I was very thin, straight up and down... able to wear the same clothes from junior high. Heck, sometimes I bought clothes in the little girls department because even juniors were too big (this was in the early 90s, and size 0 didn't exist yet). Then…
  • That's my thoughts, too. Speaking for myself, if I cut calories too much, I don't lose extra weight, I just lose energy and motivation. I'll still kick butt in my workouts, but my non-exercise activity dwindles. Little things, like walking the dog a little less, letting the laundry pile up, not keeping my house as tidy as…
  • I'm almost 43, and don't give a fig what "my age" should dress like. I wear what I like. Anyone who doesn't like it can look away. So if I want to wear a short skirt or a bikini or anything else, I will and I'll rock the hell out of it.
  • Well, for starters, I don't eat nearly as much corn as a cow.
  • What I found is that while I sometimes pout, "I'm not shrinking... my pants still fit," or get annoyed when trying on new jeans in stores that don't fit, I'm not realizing that my jeans were uncomfortably tight when I started losing. And I was avoiding pants without any stretch to them. And changing into pajamas as soon as…
  • No guilt involved in this pleasure. Zingers. Mmmmm.....
  • I have empathy, too, but Baileemarie, by your ticker, you're two pounds from your goal. (great job, by the way!) And since you're two pounds from your goal and haven't decided to change that goal, you're probably pretty happy with your results. If you'd gotten on the doctor's scale and you were five pounds less than you…
  • There is no one who hated exercise and gym class more than I used to. But working out was the major factor in my change. My eating habits weren't THAT bad, but I was eating just a little too much for my activity level. What I found was that when I'm exercising regularly, I can eat pretty much whatever I damn want and still…
  • This. It doesn't change who you are or the progress you've made. You'd weigh a lot less on the moon, but that wouldn't make any difference, either.
  • Reasonable calorie deficit, adequate protein, and strength training, preferably heavy weights, low rep. Eating too little and doing just cardio won't help you retain lean mass. The more lean mass you keep, the more fat you lose.
  • I started with C25K in December of 2010, at 38 years old having never been a runner and the last time I ran was a college phys ed class. By October of 2011, I was running a 5k in under 25 minutes and a 10k in 53 and change.
  • I'm almost 43, married 14 years, together 16. I used to think I wanted kids, but eventually came to realize I only wanted them because that's what everyone expects... that you get married and have kids. Once I seriously thought about why I would want kids, I realized I didn't.
  • Does that include chasing the chicken around a yard like Rocky Balboa?
  • Well, it didn't take 13 years. ;) I spent about a year putzing around on machines at the gym after I lost weight, then switched to free weights. That's when I noticed the biggest change. This is a post from my old account, showing what two months of free weight did:…
  • It's perfectly normal to show a "gain" on the scale when you start any new exercise program (or increase intensity), and especially with weight training. It's just fuel and fluid retention. Any soreness you feel after exercising... that's inflammation and inflammation is fluid retention. That fluid retention can mask…
  • Strength train. Heavy as you can manage with good form. I was about 125 lbs at 5'5 and 27 years old in the pink bikini pics. They were taken when I first started dating my husband. I didn't exercise at all then. I took great pride in my slothful ways. That caught up with me when I got a desk job and the boyfriend became a…
