  • I use either a julienne peeler, spiral slicer, or mandoline to do them. The spiral slicer is the easiest to use and is just like sharpening a pencil. The julienne peeler is very easy as well, I like the noodles it makes more than the spiral slicer. The mandoline is the probably the most hassle but the most versatile for…
  • My wife and I do a recipe that is very similar to this that ends up making it raw, vegan, and easier to make. Our sauce is 1 large or 2 small avocados, some lime juice, 1-2 cloves of pressed garlic, and some salt. Blend the ingredients so the sauce is creamy. The noodles are julienned or spiral cut zucchini, which we keep…
  • A few things my wife and I have been doing lately: Make zucchini noodles. Blend an avocado with some garlic, lime, and salt to make a creamy sauce for them. Cook a sweet potato, scoop out the guts, and smash with some butter to have easy mashed sweet potatoes. You can do this with any potato really. Make personal-sized…
  • I am working through alpha week 4 now. I don't always do M-F like the schedule suggests but do try to get all 5 workouts into one Mon-Sun week. w4d4 is next for me. Total Body Circuit, my favorite (not!) just like everyone else here. :)
  • Amy's bowls that are vegan. I really like the black eyed pea one. Also try the quinoa or spaghetti italiano. Vegan tamales. Beans. Rice. For heartier chili you can bulk it up with more veggies too. Try adding eggplant or some zucchini.
  • Your body is always burning calories unless you are dead. The Fitbit is showing you that you are burning at, or close to, BMR when you are sleeping. If you take one 15min calorie value from their graph during sleeptime and multiply by 96 then you should get something very close to your BMR from the online calculators.
  • I really like my Fitbit One. It works well with most types of exercise I do (mainly walking) and helps me keep track of how active I really have been during the day. TDEE sedentary tends to be a low estimate for me, at least according to the Fitbit. I use it along with their Aria scale and syncing with MFP to keep track of…
  • It has been re-released on iOS and Android!
  • Oh man, the good old days... Back when UBRS was a 15-man raid instance and LBRS took a few hours to clear. Original WoW for more year than I'd like to admit... MC, Ony, BWL, AQ, TK, BT, Hyjal. Always been an RPG fan since the first FF back on NES. Lately been playing casual games because I don't have the time for much…
  • About 7 calories per almond. According to Google's calorie database 1oz of almonds and 1oz of peanuts are virtually identical at 163 and 161 calories.
  • It sounds like you are comparing apples to oranges, for lack of a better analogy. You seem to be asking "are almonds better than a protein bar for getting a bunch of protein?" In that case the almonds will not win. That aside, everyone else here has great points. They have a nice breakdown of fat, protein, and carbs and…

  • I agree. Also, be aware the sedentary TDEE might not fully account for the calories burned in the 2 hours "around the plant" you describe. It depends on what you are doing in those hours. Even light walking for 2 hours is going to burn more calories than truly sitting at a desk.
  • I am a big proponent of walking with a backpack. I did this for about a year training to climb a mountain. My legs got so strong that with minimal running practice and aerobic training I was able to run a 12K and half marathon at very respectable speeds (8:06 pace on the half). A friend of mine who does Ironman also…
  • You may want to look into selenium and the role it plays in mercury toxicity. E.g. http://ckresser.wpengine.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/Selenium_Poster_final.png I don't know that I necessarily believe that if selenium > mercury in most fish then everything magically works out, but I do believe the selenium must help…
