Try making overnight oatmeal. You control what is put into it and it is ready to go in the morning. There are tons of recipes for every taste. You can eat it cold or heat it up in the microwave. I also make big batches of steel cut oatmeal on Sunday and freeze individual portions to take to work. Both options are better…

^^I do this all the time too, but my husband works afternoons so he never catches me doing it. I have walked laps around the house to get more steps too. My favorite thing to do though is to walk in the woods. We have 10 acres and some really steep hills that give me the equivalent of anywhere between 3-5 staircases…

I can't speak for anyone else. As someone who could barely walk up a flight of stairs without becoming out of breath and struggled to get 5000 steps per day when I first got a fit bit, to someone who has NOT gotten less than 18,000 steps, and usually over 20,000 steps per day since January 2014, it is definitely all good…

I have had a fit bit for 3 years. First a One, then a Force (no longer making this one), now a Charge HR. I love them all. It is the best motivator I have to get me to move more. Mine just vibrated so I have reached my step goal for the day @ 15,000 steps. I do have my eye on the new Blaze that is coming out in March.…

I lost 40# before anyone commented on my weight loss. They noticed, but were reluctant to comment. I opted for not telling anyone, not even my husband or daughter. I had a lot to lose, started out at 290#. After the initial compliment, they came almost daily. One day my boss said to me, "hi skinny". I have never been…

You lose weight by cutting calories and eating/drinking less calories than you burn. Your choice on how you want to spend those calories. I was never a big drinker, and could probably count on one hand the number of glasses of wine or Bailey's I have had in the past 4 years.
-
^^^This is one of the very best posts I have read on this site in the almost 4 years I have been here. Experiment, find what works for you and stick with it as best you can.
-
Or, get a bag of the mini ones (they have them for Easter) budget one in at the end of the day as a reward for being awesome and staying within your calorie allotment for the day. About 25 calories. Very doable! Enjoy!

^^Nothing guarantees adherence, to anything. The stats show that over 80% of the people who lose weight, end up gaining it back, no matter what program they followed or how they lost the weight. Pretty significant statistics. You can call it whatever you want, measure it however you want, but unless you take in less…

^^because, some of us have been here a very long time, lost a lot of weight (over 160#) and kept it off for an equally long time (over 2 years). We see the same things here over and over. It is not really helpful to people starting out, and simply not true.

Sugar cane. People can gnaw on sugar cane before it is processed
-
Let's not forget Jared either on his Subway diet. No matter how it is packaged the results from eating less calories than you burn is weight loss.
-
^^True words. You can package it different and call it different but in the end, successful weight loss is eating less calories than you burn. Fact.
-
It really is as simple as calories in vs calories out. How you choose to spend those calories is a personal choice. If you eat more calories than you burn, you will gain weight. If you eat less calories than you burn, you will lose. Calories are calories. Whether or not you want better nutrition is your personal decision.

When I was 8 months (Nov 2012) into this, my husband was diagnosed with pre diabetes. He started eating what I eat. Within 4 months his blood work came back normal. Your SO has a very important reason to change his diet, while he can still reverse his diagnosis. Best of luck to you both.

It will happen! :) You probably will drop 5 pounds and stay under. Keep going!
-
No control over anyone but yourself. Keep doing what you are doing that is all you can do. When/if he is ready, he will do it. Your example may motivate him more at some point.

Strictly speaking, GMOs HAVE been around for centuries. Clue me in to what is in its' truly natural state? Some is natural evolution, some has been altered by man, and not all in recent history.
-
GMO's have been around for a very long time, it is not a new concept, man has been doing this for thousands of years. I can't say that I believe any food is truly in its' original state, and to me, organically grown is somewhat a gimmick, that some people are willing to pay more for. I support the local farmers, and buy at…

I never was a big drinker, so it was never really an issue that added to my being morbidly obese. I know that for me, chewing my calories is way more satisfying than drinking (anything other than water). I have been doing this for almost 4 years now, and a little over 2 years on maintenance, so I know what works for me.
-
Whatever works best for you. There are no exact rules. We each have to find what works us and go with it. If you can learn moderation in all things, it may help become a sustainable solution for a lifetime. But we are all different and need to focus on what works for us.

Log everything you eat and drink. Everything has calories and they add up. If you are honest, log everything you eat and drink and stay within your calories for every day, you will lose. It may save you from having to ask why you are not losing weight, a question that is asked here every day.
-
^^ Agree with this, everything you eat is processed in some way. Calories in, calories out, all things in moderation, portion control, and common sense.
-
Oven roasted or grilled. So good. You can use any spice you like on them. My favorites are evoo, salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes and evoo with dill.
-
Bananas, melon, strawberries & blueberries.
-
Yep, PB2 or powdered Jiff. It is surprisingly good in recipes like this, and way less calories
-
I tend to agree with this. If it is true, and she is eating under 600 calories/day @ 5'3" and 144#, there is something wrong, and she needs to be evaluated by a doctor to rule out some other issue she may have. She did say in her opening post that she "only lost" 1 pound last week, so she is losing.
-
^^Yep, that is the end result of starvation mode. A body that weighs 250# is going to burn more calories that a body weighing 150# eating the same amount of calories, as the more you weigh the more calories your body burns just sustaining that weight.
-
It is ok to have a glass of wine, or anything else you want to eat or drink. Just work it into your daily calories. It has been my experience, over the past 4 years, all things in moderation. If this is going to work, we need a plan that will work for us in the long term, not just while losing the weight.

^^This. Ever see any photos of Holocaust survivors?
