  • OP, I wonder if you have the flu or something. Only one day? I think you need to give it more time. There is nothing wrong with eating all things in moderation for most people. It takes self control, but the effort is well worth it in the long term. Give it more time.
  • Both. Love chocolate and have a piece every day. Favorite fruits are berries, melons, and bananas.
  • Well done Elinjons! Congratulations! I am not 70 yet, but will be 65 in the fall. My epiphany came @ age 60. I have been on MFP for four years now and have lost over half of my current body weight. Been on maintenance for over 2 years now. It is tough, but so worth the effort. MFP & my fit bit have been, and are, crucial…
  • ^^exactly this, even Fit Bit will tell you that all your steps do not get counted on the elliptical. Same thing when you are pushing around a shopping cart, at least for the wrist fit bits.
  • You claimed you are/were exercising A LOT, @ 1700 calories. If so, you are definitely burning more than the additional 200 calories more that you are eating. You are not losing by exercise alone. I am well aware of losing weight without exercising. I lost over 100# before I began to even walk more than I had to. 0%…
  • It is not cheating. I use the elliptical all the time on challenges, and I am on a workweek hustle one right now. Steps are steps and they all count. Unless you have made an agreement prior to the challenge starting on how you can accumulate your steps, they should all count. I have had a fit bit for over 3 years and have…
  • You say you are exercising A LOT, so you are burning A LOT more calories, so you can eat more and still lose weight. Eating 1500 and maintaining @ 152 while sedentary vs: eating 1700 and losing and exercising A LOT would indicate that you are burning more than 200 extra calories, so you should be losing weight. You are…
  • ^^LOL, basically this. But the gym I joined is Anytime Fitness, specifically so I can go "anytime". I go very early in the morning, and there are usually only 2 or 3 other people. I don't look at them, get involved in my "Law & Order" episode, do my thing for an hour, and leave. I only use the elliptical & treadmill (I am…
  • No. Not unless you have a medical reason to omit certain foods. Eat what you like, but use common sense if you care about nourishing your body. Stay within your calorie limits. Hopefully this can be a lifetime sustainable way to eat, and maintain a healthy body weight when you reach your goal.
  • I have heard weight loss is 80% eating at calorie deficit, 10% exercise, 10% heredity. And the fact is, eating more calories than you burn results in weight gain, whether or not you exercise. Moving more, is beneficial to your body, but you still have to eat less calories than you burn to lose weight, calories burned vs…
  • I am in better shape now than since I was 30 years old. Age 64 SW 290 CW 130 Started MFP @ age 60 on 3/12/12 Been on maintenance for over 2 years. Staying within calorie limit, portion control, moderation in all foods, moving more. Consistency is key, no matter the age, as long as there are no health issues. Determination…
  • Perhaps your father missed the classes on bedside manner in med school. Do this for no one but yourself, if that is what you truly want. You are a valuable person, your weight is a part of who your are, there is so much more. Stand up for yourself and let your father know how much this is hurting you. As a person that was…
  • SW 290 CW 130 Comments began 8 weeks in @ -40 pounds.
  • I eat the same salad all the time, so I entered it in a recipe. I never buy salad. $7.00 at Culvers...................for what, mostly lettuce. At that price you could make a lot of salads.
  • I have been there too. I think it is a pretty common feeling for some people to have. Try to focus on your ultimate goal, being at the weight you will eventually get to. You are not alone, having this type of feeling. I have been on maintenance for over 2 years now, and there is no reason anymore to avoid those awkward…
  • ^^ditto this. It makes me gag, I have tried to like it, believe me. Too few calories to waste them on this....................that goes for kale too.
  • Early, but I guess early is a relative figure. I am at the gym by 3:00 am. I work long hours and have a long commute and know I won't do it after work. No choice.
  • ^ re: the idiots: and they are also the only ones that buy into anything the moronic Kardashian's do, or say.
  • ^Giving them the benefit of the doubt. Or perhaps showing off. Definitely not for comfort IMHO
  • I know for a fact, that you are definitely not the oldest one here. I will be 65 in September, have been on MFP for over 4 years, lost a lot of weight, and have been on maintenance for over 2 years. I lost 100 pounds before I even began to walk more, so it can be done without exercise, just eating less calories than you…
  • LOL, great story! My first day at the gym, a young man climbed on the stair climber and was going full out for the whole time I was on the elliptical. That was 1/25/15. To this day I have not had the nerve to go near that piece of equipment. Congratulations on your success with the "dreaded" machine. Maybe I will give it a…
  • Aside from the munchies, which could be detrimental to weight loss, putting any smoke intentionally in your lungs doesn't make too much sense. But if you are in a state, country where it is legal, and you are an adult, you are free to do what you want.
  • Yes, it is ok. As long as you are not over your total calories for the day, or have a medical condition affected by sugar, it is ok to go over.
  • Every day at the same time and, as others have said, keeps me motivated.
  • Chia seeds, ground flax
  • I have a Charge HR. I have heard people say they get credit for steps from hand movement, but I have never had that happen. The reverse seems to be true for me. When I use the elliptical it misses a lot of steps, also when shopping and pushing a cart, it misses steps. I put mine in my pocket now when I am shopping or at…
  • ^Truth. I would imagine they have at least 200 calories each, definitely not worth it to me.

  • I have had the One, the Force(discontinued) and now the Charge HR and love them all. I would love to get the Blaze and probably will for either birthday or Christmas this year, but can not justify the expense as my HR is not even a year old yet.
  • Perhaps not exactly 3 pounds per week, but I lost 5 pounds a week for the first 8 weeks. 100 pounds by 29 weeks. Other people here have lost even more. It can be done, and safely. Maybe many people couldn't, but other people do it that have a lot to lose like myself and the OP (I lost over 160# in 20 months and have kept…
  • You are right, it would not work for a lot of people, but we are all different. Some people are very goal oriented, and this would be a very strong incentive to succeed. It was for me. I had a health assessment coming up in October 2012 at work. Joined MFP 3/12/12 and was bound and determined to be down 100 pounds by then.…
