  • I am hungry at 1600 calories a day, regardless of what kind of food I eat. Not starving, but going to bed slightly hungry. Some days more than others obviously, but I usually wake up very hungry.
  • I usually work out before work and log that as exercise. But I can try bringing extra shoes and walking home from work as well.
  • I often want to move more during the day, but I have an office job so there is a limit to how much I get to move around. How many steps a day does one have to make to get into the "lightly active" section?
  • Yup! I'm Norwegian and I definitely recommend putting geitost in sauces with meat! Especially when I make deer or reindeer I put a chunk of brown cheese in the sauce. Fantastic. My favourite cheese is probably St. Albray. This cheese with salty crackers is the stuff of life.
  • Wine. I have cut sugar, and the great thing about it is that when it's out of your diet for a certain amount of time, you don't crave it. Carbs is a different story. I love white bread with garlic butter or cheese, and occasionally I have to have it. Just thinking about a buttery baguette makes me ache right now.
  • I think it's A factor, but not the main one if you are serious about losing. I've had the same experience myself - I used to eat a specific high protein yogurt, and one day in the newspaper the producer announced that they were "very sorry to inform that the calories listed were incorrect", and that the actual amount was…
  • I like kommodevaran's response - first you get real and honest with yourself. First thing I is to accept the boundaries (you can't have it all - just like with everything in life, I suppose...). In some ways I think some have it "easier" in the sense that they have grown up with a healthier mindset towards food, so they…
  • For me, this is both yes and no. Alcohol is definitely empty calories. On the other hand, many treats are. And it's a common MFP "theme" that you need to allow yourself a treat now and then to not go crazy. Say you swap those calories from alcohol for candy, cake or similar. How much of it do you have? 400 calories of red…
  • How do you calculate your TDEE exactly? I find it hard to figure out the exact number. My job would be categorized as a desk job which is sedentary, which would leave my TDEE around 1700. On the other side, I walk around when I can, and I am a fast walker. I don't have a car either, so it's mostly walking everywhere. Been…
  • Gosh, this is hard. I went on a date last night and I was actually hungry to begin with, but had "set aside" enough calories for two glasses of wine. However he was hungry and had already ordered a pizza for us to share. Thin crust, small one, though, but still. And tonight I have a community project where we will have…
  • Thanks for the advice. Yes the sleep thing is an issue. Even when I do go to bed early, I don't sleep tremendously well. I will get serious about not having screen time before bed. I have a doctor's appointment coming in a couple of weeks regarding something else, so I might check iron levels at the same time. My mum did a…
  • Yes I am. If I stick to my goal, I do lose. The problem is more that I get tired and cranky when eating at a deficit, albeit a small one.
  • I workout in the morning because it's the only way I can squeeze it in. After work I can't get myself to the gym. But to be honest, I am SO TIRED. I went this morning at 7am, got about 7 hrs of sleep but now I just want to sleep. Its 1 pm here and I have no energy, even after lunch
  • I make my lunches mini dinners. So it's meat or fish with vegetables for both meals.
  • I have a similar situation with my sister, though we don't live together we spend a lot of time together. She is very skinny and never restricts herself on anything. I think it comes down to her being a naturally active person. When she is home from work, she is often getting started with projects - DIYs around the house,…
  • The last few days have actually been very good. For some reason I have not had a lot of appetite.. I think it's because I've just been better at filling my time with other things. I started dating again and had a first date I was nervous about, and when I'm nervous I don't feel like eating. The next days I have just filled…
  • I do strength training now and then, but some say it's impossible to gain muscle and lose weight at the same time? I don't have a measuring band, but I have some clothes I use for "measuring". For example one high waist miniskirt which barely fits when I'm on my period and is usually a little tight.
  • Calories matter at the end of the day. I basically look at three things with my macros - is the sodium or sugar alarmingly high, or is the protein very low. If the protein is low, it's also likely that I don't feel full.
  • I do the same, but I manage it little by little. Usually I don't keep unhealthy food in the house, but when I stay at my parents place, I go crazy (their house is filled with food and candy). Last time I was afraid I'd do the same thing again, so I went for a long walk in the early evening to save up some calories. The…
  • I do Barry's Bootcamp and I have the same challenge. The class is half cardio and have strength training, though the strength training includes anything from squats with weights to burpees. I have simply counted only the calories burned at the treadmill and eaten those back to be sure I don't go over, but I obviously burn…
  • For me it's; - Save calories for the evening. I eat very healthy during the day and try to get a workout in. - Choose the right drink. You have more control over the calories with wine than with mixed drinks. Plus, the alcohol hits you slower, so you usually don't get too drunk. - Here in Norway, drinks are crazy expensive…
  • When you say 'hitting goals', do you mean reach the macros on all of them? Or just staying under? I usually stay under sugar and salt, I go over on fat and try to hit the max on protein. I am not sure what people mean when they say 'hit macros'.
  • Yes I have recalculated my TDEE and I have also set to do a very small calorie deficit per day. But it is still hard, my TDEE is so low. I eat back some exercise calories after workouts, but I seriously get to hungry. After my workout yesterday I had chicken with loads of vegetables, and it's like it went right through me.…
  • Go to bed! I used to be like this, but I have now shifted to becoming a morning person. For some time I have used Zzzquil to fall asleep, usually taking them at around 9pm and am asleep around 10. Waking up at 6 and going to the gym feels great - but more importantly I don't stay up and eat (or am generally unproductive).…
  • I eat pecan nuts because they're my favourite nut, but... 691 kcal per 100 gram! More than both walnuts and peanuts. Why :(
  • I ended up at 800 calories total yesterday - not quite what I hoped for, but still a low calorie day. The sugar free jello is a great idea, it's not common here but I'll try to make it. Are you going to keep your fasting days to the weekend or do weekdays too? I think it'll be harder when you spend the day at work.
  • I'm doing this today, and it's hard. I can tell I won't be able to stick to 500 cals. But I ate waay too much last night, so at the very least I want to 'erase' some of that today. One thing I'm trying is to have cups of tea in between, plus make things like hot soup that takes a while too eat.
  • What are you guys eating for the fasting days? I will make Sunday my fast days, and figured I might make it into a complete 'cleanse' (no meat, alcohol, processed etc.).
  • I'm looking for responses on this too. I tried 5:2 for a while, but it was too hard. Now I am thinking of doing 6:1. For instance Sundays, when I am relatively passive to begin with. I think it's good to think of it as a cleanse-day altogether. When I did some fasting I was surprised that I felt pretty ok the next day. I…
  • That sounds very good, but are they easy to fry? I have tried variations of pancakes (banana, quinoa etc.), but they end up falling apart without flour.
