  • What does it do? It works on strength and flexibility. After I do weights and my muscles are sore, yoga is the day that works out that soreness. Can you do it without being all "spiritual?" I'm not in the least bit spiritual Are the exercises easy and quick? You can do anything from a sun salutation that is 15-20 minutes.…
  • I'd list this as a NSV :)
  • I forget the model number for the strap, but this is the watch (it's a couple of years old): http://www.getyouinshape.com/Products/Heart_Rate_Monitors_PolarF2black.html
  • There are some that have built in features that track calories. Mine was a low end polar HRM and it only tracks time of workout and average heart rate. I use websites to calculate my total calorie burn.
  • I do hill training/interval workouts on the bike. I'll go at a 13 out of 20 resistance for about 8 minutes, then crank it up to 20 out of 20 for 2 minutes and stand up and push until I can't push any more, then I crank it down to about a 5. After about a minute or two, I put it back to 13 and repeat.
  • I try to keep it light before work. A banana, a granola bar, some peanut butter. that kind of thing. After for me really depends on how many calories I have left for the day.
  • Exactly, it does. It assumes that you'll probably watch some TV on an average night. But if you don't and go to the gym, it never gets rid of those calories that it assumed for you. Simple example: Your BMR is 1700 calories. MFP assumes that you'll watch some TV at night and that's about 80 calories in an hour, so your…
  • As a quick summary, it basically says that many people don't take into account the fact that you're replacing some activity with your exercise. If you had of stayed home and watched TV, you would still have burned some calories - maybe 80-100, so if you go to the gym and burn 300 calories on a treadmill, you're really only…
  • I don't even log it. If you don't put cream or sweetener, it's essentially water.

  • Do some exercise to get some of it back, then try again for a better tomorrow :)
  • It pushes (or bumps) the thread to the top of the forum list so that more people will read it.

  • Ha. My /played was showing it to me in DAYS instead of hours. I stick to offline games now so I can shut it off when I want.
  • Hmm... now I need to go try a headstand.
  • Life begins outside of your comfort zone
  • On Saturdays, it's virtually impossible for me to stay under my calories because there's usually beer involved. I drink my calories in beer. I always aim for my maintenance number. If I stay under that, I still didn't do any damage to the rest of the week.
  • Thanks everyone! Pay it forward. One piece of motivation can turn in to 100 really quickly if you take the time to write down your successes!

  • I like here better. My friends on Facebook could care less about my health goals... in fact some would probably try to poke fun at me and tell me to relax. I love that people here are actually excited about my achievements and supportive of my goals.
  • I would pre-add everything into your diary for tomorrow and see where you stand. If something is too much, you can delete it and find a better alternative.
  • I always have the 90 calorie fiber one bars and/or some string cheese as a quick snack if you can't eat. I also have Healthy Choice Cafe Steamers for lunch. The preservatives are relatively low, the calories are between 200 and 350 for a good meal, and they're ready to eat in 3 to 5 minutes. These plus a yogurt always…
  • I haven't cared about football in a couple of years. Even when they were "good" you could tell that they were disorganized and that it was going to come back to bite them. Every year has been a disappointment.
  • I definitely did this too. My goal was to get out of the "overweight" range on the BMI, and that was my 160. It took getting close to that goal to find new motivators.
  • Oh definitely. I was just interested in what the medically healthy definition of "ideal" was.
  • Also, watch out. The first calculator on the site is what the study found people THOUGHT their ideal weight was. That's compared to the third and fourth that use different metrics to calculate what it should be.
  • Oops. you're right. I guess my morning coffee didn't kick in fully yet :) Thanks for pointing that out. Overall, it's still interesting to look at people's perceptions about "ideal" vs actual medical information.
