There are always healthy options if you look for them. I had the same concern on vacation, but you just need to focus on knowing how good it feels to push through and not falter. Enjoy yourself, just don't overdue it.

Sounds great. I've been making fish tacos out of mine but have been getting sick of the mass of sodium in the tortillas :-( I'll have to give this a try instead.

It gets easier every day!

Great job, stick with it.

Try planning ahead for the day. Ie. know your meals and don't deviate. It's ok to eat out, just plan it and know what you'll be eating when you go.

At that low, you're forcing your body into starvation mode and being counterproductive.

is there a brand or model on it? Im betting theres some reviews online.

keep in mind low calorie options. You can eat healthy pretty much anywhere if you pay attention. For example, fish/chicken are good options if they aren't fried. A lot of places will let you ask them to cook things differently (ie. grilled). You can also often swap sides such as a baked potato for an additional side of…

There is a minimum your body needs to function (ie. the magical 1200). If you're under that, you push yourself into starvation mode over a period of time and end up slowing your metabolism to a halt....basically counter productive to what you want to achieve.

I guess the theory is that you condition your body to expect more calories to be taken in when you exercise, thus speeding up your metabolism on a permanent basis. Some people eat back all their exercise calories, some do not. I see no loss when I eat it all back, so I always make sure that I have a decent deficit from my…

It's OJ Simpson all over again....

The only weight loss I get is when I don't eat them all back. If I eat everything back, I stay at my weight.
-
I recognize what i can and log it as well as try to stay away from stuff I don't know how to log (ie. if you can't tell what's in it, it probably isn't good for you)

I've noticed in the past that I tend not to lose a lot in the waist size of pants. Last time I lost ~120lbs, I went from a size 42 to a 38. Where I DO notice it is in how the rest of the pants fit, ie. the jeans I wore today are baggy in the butt/thighs, but fit in the waist. For me at least, I think I get in denial and…

^That's the likely culprit, not the pop itself. People lack self control and think they can offset bad eating habits by drinking diet pop. I'd like to see a "study" where they control the caloric intakes and food type intakes of a group that does/doesn't consume diet pop at the same time. Every study I've seen so far has…

Are you consuming enough protein after lifting to allow for the muscle growth? One thought would be to accommodate for a protein recovery drink when you're finished with each lifting session.

I don't think I could EVER give up beer entirely. I have, however, limited my intake considerably since starting here. I like the blog, I'm gonna have to follow it since it looks like we are on nearly the same path so far :-P

That's great! So far I've got my wife, parents and not sister-in-law on this site. I don't think anyone wants to live an unhealthy lifestyle and this site shows just how easy it can be to live healthier. Having family involved gives a great support structure and that goes a long way with any lifestyle change.

^This. Pick a time of day and only do it then for the most accurate results. First thing in the am after going to the bathroom is the common choice. Also, your body goes through pretty radical changes at times which is why its recommended to spread out your weigh ins rather than doing it daily.

Good luck. If you love cooking, check out this site: http://www.skinnytaste.com/ There are a ton of great and healthy recipes on there.

Friday by Rebecca Black ok, i can't even keep a serious face on that one.

i dunno about dipping options, but I love using it to top omelettes or as a solo topping on baked potatoes

^This. It also contains a moderate dose of sodium which works against you. While it isn't the unhealthiest thing you could do, just make sure you're drinking plenty of real water as well.
-
really creative idea....i like it

I saw that too after my last outting. I dropped it by at least half just to err on the side of caution. I can see it being up there for walking/carrying.
-
Good luck, making the choice for yourself rather than waiting until you're forced into it is a great step in the right direction.

Historically I eat a lot, drink a lot, and lay on the beach a lot... This year I'll probably spend a lot of time on the beach, but am looking to control my food/beer intake a lot more. I'm also planning on doing some walking and swim laps every morning to stay active.

Agreed, I play just dance and mje with my wife and we get a damn good workout with them. It's a lot of fun at the same time so you don't feel like it's a chore to do.
