You can lose weight just by eating less. Exercise is not required. But exercise is something we should do for our health (if we are able). If you are out of shape, start out slowly. Build up to fitness. What are your goals? For cardio fitness: walking, jogging, dancing. If you want to stay indoors look for YouTube videos.…

Practice moderation. Notice I said practice. Nobody's going to be perfect all the time. It's not just perfect people who lose weight. Try different strategies and find one you can stick to long term. Moderation isn't something that automatically comes easy when you get to goal. I save my "treat" calories for the end of the…

I'm with Sean, the zig-zag approach sounds much more easier to sustain. Eating a bit less during the week to "bank" some extra calories for the weekend is pretty common. Water weight can fluctuate the first week or two. 4 pounds of fat loss would be crazy aggressive (unsafe).

The beauty of measuring food portions and logging them, is you learn about your behavior. This is going to be really helpful when trying to keep the weight off. Meal replacement shakes remove all the "fuss." Their selling point is quick & easy, a short cut to weight loss. This site includes a food log (and database) for…

There is no keto setting. Just go to My Home > and Goals (below). Change daily nutrition goals to your preference. Also Edit Micronutrients to include fiber so you can net that number out (unless you plan to log all net-carb foods). Dr. Eric Berg.....LOL

It depends on what kind of programs you like. It's definitely worth looking into a free trial. Hopefully, you can test drive some things. I use YouTube & DVDs. There's so much out there to choose from.

Ahhh.....but the catch is those foods aren't really free. Weight Watchers (as an example) will lower the calorie start value so that you can have as much "free" food as you want. Their intent is to encourage people to eat more veggies. But when people are closer to goal, short, or fairly sedentary this can mess with weekly…

"What is the optimum amount of fluids per day without gaining weight ????" If I take this question at face value....the answer is zero. Water weight does not equal fat. The number on the scale is rather meaningless that way. More bad news - there will also be food in your digestive tract. The bigger question is how many…

Taste of Home has several recipes for this pie. There's a Jello version too (not tried it). I do Lemurcat2's version, minus the strawberry preserves. Hoping my strawberries pan out this year!

You wouldn't want to add every step as exercise. That's going to result in a fair amount of double counting. When you signed up for MFP you stated an activity level, some steps are already included. The following pedometer indices have been developed to provide a guideline on steps and activity levels: Sedentary is less…

Several things can help lower blood pressure and blood sugar. If you are overweight - weight loss can help you lower both. If you are inactive - regular exercise (even walking) can help you lower both. Diet can also help you lower both. Check out the DASH diet for people with hypertension. Improved blood sugar numbers is…

This^ WW points are bogus now anyway. Punitive point values for food they deem "unhealthy." I remember a years ago a WW brand yogurt was half the points of my favorite brand, just because there was a bit less sugar. Half the points for something like a 10-20 calorie difference. WW keeps re-inventing themselves to sell…

MFP doesn't do net carbs because this is an international site. Internationally, many entries are already net carb, but those entered using U.S. foods labels would not be. 2 options - change your settings to include tracking fiber. Then subtract that number in your head. It's simple math. Another option would be to search…

Is your FitBit synced to My Fitness Pal (MFP)? Calorie adjustments should compare the activity level you signed up for with MFP against your actual activity. Syncing can be glitchy sometimes. Try diconnecting and reconnecting.…

^This. You don't "have to" eat vegetables. Salad isn't necessarily low cal anyway. Salad can be low cal. Veggies are recommended by many because they are relatively high volume, and low calorie. When someone wants to bulk up serving sizes, veggies can be a good tool. Protein, fiber and fat are filling components. But it's…

There's a thread for people that like high volume - lower calorie foods: https://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/10563959/volume-eaters-thread/p1 My go to snack is homemade microwave popcorn. How long have you been at 1200 and not losing? More than a month? I would say (hope) that it's still somewhere in your logging. Otherwise check with your doctor. If you had to eat less than 1200 calories to lose weight, that would mean your maintenance calories are 1200. When I google TDEE (total daily energy expenditure)…

Keep in mind that a good many entries are user entered. If users don't enter all the micro-nutrients, they are not being credited to you. Double check entries before assuming you aren't getting iron. Unless you are anemic and your doctor prescribes iron, Do NOT take a stand alone iron supplement. Multivitamins that do…

Um, no. The 1200 calories should be "net" calories. That means the 1200 is after exercise. OP - you started at the default minimum of 1200 so there is nowhere else to go. As harper16 said .5 pound a week doesn't leave a lot of margin for error. If you don't use a digital food scale, get one of those. Also double check the…

You can't spot reduce. The weight comes off where it wants to, and that's genetic. How much strength training do you do? It's not a big calorie burner, but strength training can help shape your weight loss results.
