That's a great idea on the "inspiration pants,"and I'm actually using it already with pants and a swimsuit. I've got the classes blocked out, but it has to be as "tentative" because my schedule is fluid. I teach college classes online and am also involved with other projects that call for meetings which sometimes come up…

That sounds like a great start, and then you can always build on it. I looked at. 24 hour gym before joining the club here because I'm a night owl, but the one I ended up at is much closer to my house. Feel free to check in here if you'd like some mutual public accountability.

Thanks for the encouragement! I know I have plenty of options if I open my mind. For example, I'd like to do C25K, but it's too bloody hot here in FL to start for a while. If the pool closes soon, that might be motivation to get on the treadmills. I know it's not the same as outside running, but it's still a way to build…

Awesome! I'm 50 years old, and you are now my inspiration.

It's back for aqua jogging again tonight since work got in the way of making it to BodyFlow. I hope to do BF tomorrow since Thurs. is a heavy meetings day.

I'm married, but no human babies here. I turn 50 this year, so my uterus isn't ever going to have anything but the couch potato life. I made up for it with critters and currently have a dog and four cats.

If there's a midlife mentor looking to adopt a fellow 50ish member embarking on a journey to get fit in this phase of life, I'd love it! I'm not currently tracking food in my diary (I already know what to and how to do it), so it's more about being g accountable to come here regularly, as well as to stay on track with…

I sure hope that's not a fact. My job requires me to be tied to my computer for a good chunk of the day, although I do break it up with dog walks. My main exercise is the big bursts at the gym but there's no way I can be off my butt for the majority of the day, or at least not if I want to eat and pay my bills.

Whoa! That picture just shattered every excuse I can possibly think of for blaming poor body condition on age.

I'd love to be added! Although in my mind I'm already resigned to being 50, my big Five-Oh birthday is actually in October. This gives me a goal to shoot for by my birthday, and I'd love to do it with the support of others and to share my support and encouragement with everyone else. I just join a health club and will be…

BodyFlow whipped my butt, so I've been stiff for the past two days. I see that as a good thing. I'm going to head to the club shortly and hope I can get a lane in the lap pool for aqua jogging. Tomorrow will be either BodyFlow again or Gentle Yoga, depending on how my body feels. I prefer BodyFlow because it's most intense…

That "get a real job" thing really slays me. Online is the future of education; not that it will ever completely replace the classroom, but it makes higher education so much more accessible. I'm lucky that the college where I teach is moving toward having more full-time online faculty members, including benefits. Hopefully…

Glad I'm not the only one! Got just a bit bored with doing my statistics for the week so I popped over here for a little reprieve.

Right now, my goal is to not feel like I"m going to collapse and die after BodyFlow class! But long term, being age 50 now, my goal is to get down to a healthy weight and maintain it while also getting my body into shape. That means building up my stamina and some muscle, as well as increasing flexibility. I'd also love to…

At the health club here, they encourage you to modify if needed. If that wasn't the case, I wouldn't even make it halfway through!

I can see how it's great for balance. I'm surprised that it doesn't look like too many people are doing it here, but if it's that much of a butt kicker for me, I figure I'd probably have a heart attack in one of the cardio classes.

Understood! I forget about the summer thing because the semesters run all year online. My "summer" will most likely be the January/February term. It will be nice to decompress after the holidays.

That's one of the things I love about teaching online. I have students all around the U.S. and often abroad. I even had one student who was active duty military on a naval vessel! Obviously I cut him slack for delays due to internet connectivity problems.
-
What an amazing diversity of teachers here! I especially love seeing others who are doing it online. Teachers in the classroom have such busy schedules, so I'm very lucky that I can get away from my computer and to the health club for lunch time classes. It's taken away my "but I have no time to exercise" excuse.

That rescue volunteering is a great idea. I have friends who can't have dogs for various reasons like living in apartments. What a great way to get some doggy together time and do something good for the shelter dogs. My dog is a shelter adoptee, and he's dachshund and chihuahua near as they could tell. He has T-rex legs in…

Coaching most definitely counts!

Wow, 40 pounds, that's great! Dogs are wonderful coaches.

Yay! So glad to see some fellow teachers on board. I often thought I'd like to teach the lower classes or middle school when I was first starting out in my career, but then I went the psychology route and eventually into corporate adult education. I love actually being in the world of academia now, even if I didn't get to…

Not sure how exciting my life is (50 year old woman looking to dump the 30ish pounds I regained over the past couple of years), but I'm committed to staying active. I intend to be here every day, since I started a thread on the motivation board to track my health club attendance progress (just joined and have to go at…

I do much better with planning because spontaneous choices often get me into trouble. I do leave some leeway, but I do much better with my eating when I lay things out ahead of time and make sure that I have those healthy choices available and easily accessible.

Okay, it's Day One of accountability. The gym has Les Mills classes, so I'm going to try out BodyFlow today at lunch time. I'm planning to focus on that and yoga for classes and to do my cardio in the pool and on long walks at home with the dog. Only 47 more visits to go by December 31. I dug out my workout clothes from a…

10 miles? Wow! You definitely don't need to hit the Y! I enjoy walking and having a dog, so that's the only thing that's probably kept me from ending up on a TLC reality show over the past couple of years. That's why I really want to give C25K a try, to see if I can ramp it up a bit.

I'd sorta, kinda really really like to wear a two piece bathing suit again. Problem is, at age 50 the concept feels a little weird, even if I whip my body back into some kind of shape, so maybe I'll stick with a new exercise DVD.

I used to fit exercise in first thing in the morning so I had no excuse not to get around to it later in the day. That worked well for a while, since my work schedule was very flexible, but then work exploded and I didn't even have time in the morning. I promptly regained the pounds I had lost in the prior year. Now I'm…
