Cottage cheese is awesome for protein!

Well I didn't get outside yesterday, but I did stay on point with calories and drink lots of fluids. I can live with 2/3, especially being under the weather! For today, I will: 1. Stay under 1400 calories 2. Make a delicious southeast asian flavoured squash soup 3. Be proactive and ice/heat my shoulder

I'd eat the lean cuisine, if it satisfies you and you can stay within your calorie goals, why not? They might be a great idea for you, for these crazy days (and wow, I do feel for you - what a day!!)

For me those numbers work great, though I am at 1200 rather than 1300-1500 on my lower days. Not much activity over here either. I'm in the camp of trying something and if it works with your goals and lifestyle, continue. If three weeks go by and the scale is not moving or you are hungry all the time, switch things up.

Cold FX, gargle with warm salt water (often), oil of oregano, and I'm a big believer in eating spicy and garlicky foods when sick. Feel better soon!

I look for support from friends and family, practice radical self-forgiveness, try to take things one day at a time. Times are feeling pretty tough for me right now, with some very serious family illnesses and myself being both sick and having an injury that is causing me a lot of pain. I'm setting a few goals for myself…

I'm generally more on the higher fat side, but I suppose the salad I had for lunch could be tweaked a bit to be low carb/low fat. I had a taco salad with lean ground beef (made with taco seasoning), cheddar, lettuce, avocado, tomato, crispy tortilla strips and taco sauce. If it was made with turkey and the cheddar and…

I eat lox for breakfast most days, and hot smoked salmon could easily work here too. I would toast some yummy grainy or rye bread, and top with light cream cheese and salmon. I usually have some kind of pickled onion or caper on my lox but I think with hot smoked I would just have the salmon alone. It's a great high…

Yay!! Way to go! You are going to keep this ball rolling all the way to Christmas and you'll be so incredibly happy that you did.

Today was a great day food wise, but the worst for health with this terrible cough and now my shoulder and neck have gone out and are hurting terribly. Tomorrow is going to be a better one. Three goals: 1. Keep calories under goal. 2. Drink loads of water and tea. 3. Get some fresh air.

Wow so much great advice in this thread!! I agree with almost everything said - create a calorie deficit, carefully weigh and measure your food, record EVERYTHING (even the food you wish you would not have had - just do it, you will feel that much more accountable and will be able to start identifying patterns.) It can be…

I agree on taking things one day at a time. For me, here's what works: I pre-plan most of my meals (but am flexible when things change or if I feel like eating something else), I weigh, measure and record everything, I weigh in only once a week because I get obsessed otherwise, I read the forums and especially success…

I lost 18lbs last summer/early fall with just calorie control. For a lot of reasons, I think exercise would have been beneficial too but for me it's best to make one major change at a time and I felt food was more important.

Hi everyone! I'm going to friend request everyone here too - I lost 18lbs this past summer and early fall, then took a weight loss break. Now I'm back for 2.0 and ready to lose the next 30. For me, it's all about calories and I don't generally do much exercise. I'd like to change that at some point but I have a super…

Hi! I lost 18.2 pounds from early August to late October last year (10 weeks), so I would say it might be a realistic goal for you, though I started heavier than you are, by 30lbs or so. I measured, weighed and tracked everything, and stayed pretty low cal (under 1300 most days but I was sedentary). I would say have an…

Peanut butter and banana on toast, quesadilla, Lox on toast with light cream cheese. I feel best when I have a full salad spinner in the fridge, with prewashed and spun green leaf or romaine, as well as a baked chicken breast. This way I can quickly make any number of low cal/high protein salads.

Thank you so much for your responses everyone! It's comforting to know that I am not alone in struggling to keep on track when sick. The theme I'm coming away with is not worrying too much, and continuing to stay on track, even with a few extra calories. Hope everyone feels better soon!

11/13/15 Thank you for this thread! This might just be the perfect thing for me right now, while I fight off this cough and get back on track with my eating. One day at a time. Today I will: 1. Stay under 1400 calories 2. Drink loads of water and tea 3. Rest without guilt

Yup, it's a great tool for healthy eating (IMO) and excellent for reducing food waste. I also think it's a bit of a life hack. If I don't have to think about breakfast or lunch, I can devote my mental energy to the other creative tasks and decisions I need to make throughout the day. That is not to say I eat the same…

Count me in too! I lost 18 pounds last summer and early fall through calorie counting and tracking on MFP, but I stopped when life got busy in October. I've gained six pounds since then and am looking to regain the motivation I had six months ago. I'm competitive for sure - lets do this!
-
I agree about calories being the bottom line, but there are some pretty neat ideas here for those not counting as well. I just spend a couple of months on maintenance and I did not count calories, and some of these tips would have been helpful for keeping my weight steady, or even losing a bit I imagine. Lol at the eating…

Thank you @Jknight001! I know I am going to have turtle weeks too, weight loss is such a strange thing!

Weigh in this morning!! 2.8lbs down! I can't believe it, especially since last weekend was Thanksgiving (Canadian) and I indulged quite a bit. Even on the more indulgent days though, I made good choices and did not eat nearly as much as I would have four or five months ago. As of today I have lost exactly 10% of my…

I'm going to add all of you now - 5:2 Fasting is going great for me. It's hard sometimes but overall easier than 1200 cals daily.
-
@EmmaOnTrack congratulations! Don't you love it when there is still a loss after a naughty weekend? I had a pretty fun and indulgent weekend myself (pretty much eating the same way I used to eat every day) This week I fasted on Tuesday (easy) and today (SUPER hard). I'm not sure why today has been so tough! I haven't…

Hi everyone! Fasting day for me today, it was Canadian Thanksgiving this weekend and I definitely feasted. I hope it doesn't affect my weigh in on Friday but we'll see. I'm thinking of fasting for three days this week - today, Thursday and Saturday. Not sure yet though!
-
Thank you! I was wondering as well.

WOW!!! Amazing, congratulations!! What an absolutely fantastic transformation. Any tips for the rest of us?

THIS! Also, I get the feeling of knowing that the weight is keeping you from really living your life. Probably many of us understand how that feels. msalamun has some great advice for you. You really can do this. Just take one step at a time in the right direction and you'll make it happen.
