  • If only vanity sizing wasn't so rampant, maybe the size would mean something... I wear between a 0-8 in pants at 5'5 and 130lbs. Generally 4 is a safe bet though.
  • Mine is not nearly as impressive as most, but... Before After Yeah, I had to get a cosplay photo in there, haha. Going out in public like that was a huge milestone after a lifetime of fatness-induced self-consciousness. Dat chin definition tho Before photos are from 2008, I was around 170lbs at 5'5. I maintained around 120…
  • I'm naturally pear shaped so this is kind of my life. Yeah, sometimes I'm a bit disappointed that things don't look the same on me as they do on the mannequin/model. But then I remember it's because of my glorious booty and then everything's okay  In all seriousness though, sometimes I have trouble and avoid wearing…
  • Feels awesome to fit in those clothes, right!? I bought a dress to wear to my cousin's wedding months ago. I gained weight after that, but managed to lose it in time to fit back into it last weekend. And damn, I looked good haha
  • Watch youtube videos to figure out the form and begin with the empty bar. If that is difficult and your gym has it, the training (15 lbs) barbell is good to help you work up to the standard bar (45 lbs). I would suggest SL 5x5 with the caveat that you add upper body accessory lifts. It tends to make people into T-Rex mode…
  • Cousin's wedding is tomorrow. I'm not sure what the meal is but dessert is gourmet cupcakes and that's all that matters
  • I think you're overthinking things  Assuming you feel satisfied and you're hitting your goals... what's the problem? I haven't yet been convinced that meal timing is important, honestly. There's a lot of broscience around it. Go with what is sustainable for you.
  • You can build muscle there to help bulk up your arms. You can't direct fat there (or anywhere) if that's what you were thinking. Eat lots of protein and fats, and lift weights. Don't skip leg day, but do extra accessory lifts for your arms. Cable pull downs, bicep curls (7s are brutal), lateral arm raises, bench press,…
  • Something fitness related in this thread? That's a paddlin'.
  • I make it with almond milk, chocolate protein powder, and instant coffee, and ice. I add a bit of PB if I have the calories. Coffee, chocolate, and pb might sound gross but it's one of the recipes I learned when I worked at Jamba Juice. Now I wish I had enough wiggle room in my diet for one of those tonight
  • I finally made the switch from Tillamook flavored yogurts to Chobani plain greek yogurt with some blueberries. I actually don't find I miss the sugar of the Tillamook as much as I thought. It is a bit bitter but a handful of blueberries (or other fruit) helps to even it out. Plus the Chobani stuff has more protein.
  • Nuts! Even a small amount can be quite filling and they have a good amount of protein and fat. Just had 1oz of almonds as a snack myself.
  • Were you going too fast? It may help you if you slow your running part down a bit. You could also stretch the program out and repeat each week to work your way up there more comfortably. As far as breathing goes... do you breath with your chest or your belly/diaphragm? Pay attention to the way you breath when you're…
  • You might want to consider seeing a therapist, who will be able to help you have a healthy relationship with food and your body better than anyone on this forum. I've been there and it isn't fun, but with the right help you can be that normal teenager.
  • Measuring is a good way to keep track. It might move slower than weight, but is a better guideline as to your progress. If you put on muscle you might be disappointed at seeing your weight go up... until you find you've lost some inches off your waist! Ultimately it's whatever is most motivating and comfortable for you. I…

  • 800 calories a day is a crash diet... To quote the relevant portion of this article: http://www.livestrong.com/article/76506-weight-loss-per-week/ "Most nutritionists, such as those at Harvard School of Public Health and the National Institutes of Health recommend slow and steady weight loss at a rate of about 1 or 2…
  • Like the others have said, 115 is a bit low for your height. I went through a period of being very thin - same height and body shape as you, as well. I got down to 110 at my lowest... I ran 5 days a week and hardly ate. I still had proportionately large thighs and a booty, even at 115. Of course, I had very little muscle.…
  • I have a very similar shape to you, and same height - smaller on top, with a larger butt. When I was the same weight my measurements were very close to yours. Pear shaped. There's nothing wrong with carrying weight in your booty. Which is good, because you can only do so much against where genetics wants to put your body…
  • I don't see too many whiners in my day to day life, but you make a good point. Losing weight takes time to do (safely) and I feel like people get frustrated too quickly. Last night, I got off my butt and went to go lift for 45 minutes. Today, I spent 40 minutes of my 60 minute lunch break walking. I do that most days, but…
  • For the 2.5lb plates, you can do several things: - ask the staff at your gym if they could get some - invest in your own - get washers and weigh them out - plain steel 2 in diameter washers are about .625lbs each and fit a barbell. Here's an example of some you can order, not sure where they ship though (#91081A046) :…
  • I get the PSL sauce in an americano. It's sooo good, and creamy enough to not even need a splash of milk... if I could have any anyway. Curse you, lactose intolerance. Living in Seattle I've got a lot of options for coffee. I even have a home espresso machine. Still enjoy my burnt Starbucks espresso every once in a while…
  • I hadn't heard of them before and, thinking it was a typo, googled "naked bars." Note to self: don't do that at work again haha. After finding the actual product, it seems the raisins and dates are what are pushing the sugar content so high. They're probably a good replacement for when you're craving a candy bar, though…
  • Great attitude! It'll really help. I used to be around the same weight as you at 5'5". I lost it through running and lifting. (I'm back because an injury set me back a few pounds, sigh.) As far as that book goes... if you're the type to like to hold the information in your hand, by all means. But it doesn't seem to have…
  • Sadly there's no easy answer to this... I would say to avoid buying too much chocolate and other treats, limiting yourself to something reasonable, such as a small treat once a week or every other week. Don't get too upset if you have an off day and eat too much. Just get back on track the next day. It's hard to keep…
  • I remember being really intimidated at first. So I went during a quiet time at the gym to get used to it. Once you keep at it you realize most people don't really care what anyone else is doing at the gym so long as they're not hurting themselves. Sure you'll get the occasional jerk... all the more motivation to work…
  • I spend about 100-125 a month on groceries for myself. Usually ends up something like this: Protein: - Chicken (Whatever body part is on sale, usually each pack is about 2 meals) - Smelt (Generally 2.99 per pound, where a pound gets me ~3 meals) - Pork chops (Usually easy to find in the manager's specials, 2-3 meals per…
  • The more, the merrier... Nothing like a good support group to help keep you motivated! Anyone's free to add me, I don't bite :)
  • I used to get up around 5, bus to university and be to the gym by 6:30, work out and shower and be ready for class at 8:30. Now I roll out of bed with just enough time to get ready for work. Sometimes I get out on my bike after work but homework, cleaning, and other excuses usually win. I need to either suck it up and get…
