  • Hi, These are my favourites, hope you can make sense of the UK measurements :-) They each need one standard UK tin of tuna which I buy in water (rather than oil), the cans are 150g each. Drain out the water before you start. 1: Tuna pasta sauce I personally will eat the whole lot - about 350 calories - all by myself on…
  • Hi EVCbeth1978, As several people have said, it's a very personal thing, but I also cut out refined sugar when I have a pound or two to lose. I describe myself as having a sweet tooth, and for the first 5-7 days I find it a struggle, but after that it gets better and I find other things taste really sweet. For example, if…
  • Hi there, You don't say where you are, but eating the fruits and veggies that are in season is a lot cheaper here in the UK. You might also find that some things are cheaper frozen, if you have access to some freezer space. I have cooked several of these: http://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/collection/cheap-and-healthy and…
  • Here in the UK this was a sensation after being featured on a TV program (you can read more on the BBC website and see other recipes): http://www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/skinny_beef_lasagne_87277 It uses leeks instead of pasta. It sounds bonkers but it works. It was the first dish featured on the program, and they cooked it…
  • I feel your pain - complete abstinence is the only thing that works for me. If you got through 9 days, I would have expected you to be over the worst, so perhaps there was more sugar left in your diet than you thought. Did you drink diet drinks? I have to drop the sweeteners too, as they seem to have the same effect on my…
  • I feel your pain, I had such a sweet tooth. It sounds grim but I honestly found it easier to give up sugar altogether - no cake, no biscuits, no white bread, no alcohol. I've done it several times, and after the first week (and I won't lie, that is a bit of a struggle) I stop wanting it and can say no to cakes and puddings…
  • For me: baby oranges (clementines) if I need a sugar hit, nuts (but as said above, measure, measure and measure again) - even salted peanuts work for me, as a small portion (10g) makes me feel full - and olives. If I keep those in the cupboard/frige, I can usually live. If I'm treating myself, savory popcorn works well.…
  • Mostly Lidl and Aldi as they're near enough for me to talk to and not too big (I hate huge hypermarkets - I can never find anything!) I agree with earlier comments about their fruit and veg, good value and healthy. I buy the little pots of olives that Lidl do, as they're good for snacking and not too expensive. I usually…
  • Hey, My experience was that I could get by with much less sweetness than I thought - either real or artificial. Perhaps, rather than trying to switch from one to the other, you could try reducing gradually. You do get used to it (honest!) and learn to love things without sugar at all. Good luck x
  • Def chicken tikka or tandori chicken - no sauce = fewer calories. My no 1 tip is to have a chapati instead of naan. I LOVE naan bread but it's not even slightly diet friendly :-) Chapatis wrapped around pieces of chicken are very tasty, so try one and see what you think. x
  • Firstly - don't give up. It's not easy, and lots of us know that, but it's not a reflection of you being a bad person, and it's OK to have bad days. Secondly - in terms of a practical suggestion, I have a similar experience to the person above that adjusting the balance of the calories I eat can make a difference. What…
