  • I am a huge fan of yoga myself. Mostly because I look phenomenal in yoga pants (that's a lie), but also because I enjoy running and yoga is great for stretching and relieving sore muscles after a run (that's the true part).
  • Not so much a cartoon, but definitely the physical embodiment of Dr. Bunsen Honeydew
  • A lot of people who struggle with this weight thing tend to believe that the weight itself isn't real. I know that sounds odd, but they look at the problem like "Oh, I can lose it anytime I want, so it's not really a problem." The issue with that is this usually leads them to view only the weight which needs to change,…
  • High blood pressure and the associated medication is the entire reason I started using MFP. Decided I didn't want to live the rest of my life waiting in a pharmacy line picking up another prescription. Have lost 60+ pounds so far, still eat like crap (just a lot less than I used to), and have BP readings many 20 year olds…
  • If I'm not afraid to wear a bikini, you shouldn't be either! Seriously though, congrats on making a change, especially for your daughter. Kids tend to be very motivating. For difficulty setting goals, try some really small ones first to see progress, makes the larger ones seem less difficult.
  • I weigh my food every meal. Myself not so often.
  • Asked my doctor once about some weight loss something or other. She responded to me :"Wanna lose weight fast? Without even trying? Let me amputate something. Other than that just eat less, exercise more and it'll happen." My doctor scares me sometimes nut in the end she's right.
  • I like running outdoors and personally think treadmills suck. But that's just my opinion and if you happen to find treadmills work for you, then great! I don't expect everyone to do what I do, that would be creepy. I get told from time to time I can't run outdoors in the rain. Sure I can! And I have. I don't run in thunder…
  • I'm looking for people who will tell me I look fabulous and shouldn't change a thing. No I'm not, I don't want anyone lying to me. Feel free to add me if you'd like. I can sometimes be funny in a "everyone point and laugh" kind of way.
  • Deep breath. Look at yourself in the mirror. Smile (you have a beautiful smile), and remind yourself that it's okay to make mistakes. It's okay to fall down once in a while. This journey is not about being perfect, it's about making progress. And starting TODAY you will make good choices. Challenge yourself to do just one…
  • I posted this a while back but it's always worth repeating: This is going to take time. A. LOT. Of. Time. You will get frustrated. You will want to quit. You will feel depressed from time to time. Some of those times will even been on the weeks when you make progress. Here's the thing: DO NOT QUIT!!!! The sweat, the pain,…
  • Sending FR. Anyone who wishes can feel free to add me. On here a lot and often people learn a lot from my mistakes
  • Siege is probable a better term than battle, but welcome to the fray either way! Good luck!
  • It's a long road. Lots of ups and downs. Good luck!
  • Feel free to add me if you'd like. I'm on here every day. My diary is open, though I have not been keeping up with it lately. Will get back on track soon.
  • I will send you a friend request. I'm on here every day and am always looking for others who are on often as well. I can, occasionally, say something funny in between all the weird stuff.
  • ^^This. A food scale will give you much better results than a people scale usually will.
  • Start. Small. Little changes go a long way for getting you to stick to them. Change too much at once and you will unable to sustain those changes. Expect the process to take a long time. You may get depressed about what appears to be lack of progress. Ask for help from your friends, online and off. Feel free to add me if…
  • Feel free to add me. My diary is open, and you'll notice I eat like crap. Sometimes 'healthy', mostly not. What helped me out was getting a food scale and weighting/measuring my food. What I used to think of as a single serving of food really wasn't (by a lot). Best of luck!
  • Don't blame you about the running. Walking works great, and unless you are walking uphill/stairs it probably will be fine on knees. I've had 3 knee surgeries and run, play soccer, etc. Check with your doc if you're still worried about it though (they usually answer these questions via email without needing an appointment).…
  • Welcome! I too work out. Sometimes. I mean I sweat. A lot. Especially when it's hot outside. It's fantastic you bribed someone into doing it with you. I was able to (eventually) convince my wife that running with me would be good for her peace of mind and well being. She agreed (sucker). Anyway, hope you stick with the…
  • What do you like to do, exercise wise? Running is fairly inexpensive. Just need shoes and a road. Clothing may be appropriate as well depending on the laws in your local area. Yoga may be another option for you. YouTube has tons of free workout videos of every sort to help you get going. I run. I hate it. Can't stand it,…
  • It is a long journey. It will likely last a lifetime. However, the journey is worth it. Take your time, don't be too anxious to see results, as that generally causes people to give up early. It's super easy to put weight on (just ask me, I've done it) but much harder to take it off. You got this!
  • Welcome back! Feel free to add me if you want. Not sure how motivating I am but I've been told I can be funny. In a kind of "everyone point and laugh" sort of way.
  • Being afraid of the scale is fairly normal. Here's the deal: You bust your butt. Mostly. I mean you sweat every once in a while. If it's hot outside. But you eat right, and maybe you do bust your butt and sweat buckets trying to make that damn dial go in the right direction. Then, end of the week rolls around and onto the…
  • Hello the same! Welcome (back?).
  • Puns are not humorous. In fact, there is evidence that every pun uttered by an individual decreases the lifespan of said individual by 5 minutes. It's nearly as bad as smoking. That being said, I have often been told I am funny. Not really in a "ha ha" kind of way, but more in an "everyone point and laugh" kind of way.…
  • Bichon? Take things with a grain of salt. Weigh your food more than you weigh yourself (you'll get better results). It's okay to slip up once in a while, just don't make it a habit. This is about progress, not being perfect. Good Luck!
  • @twpishie I posted this response on a similar thread, and I'll repost here as it is worth repeating: Been on this site regularly for over a year now, have lost 53+ pounds, and still eat a lot of crappy food. Some things I've learned over this period: This is going to take time. A. LOT. Of. Time. You will get frustrated.…
  • I have run a couple of 5k races after beginning my running adventure a little over a year ago. I applaud all of you training for a half or full marathon! I do find that I don't seem to have any desire at all to run that distance. I routinely run 4-4.5 miles 5 days a week, so I think if I set my mind to it I could begin…
