This is typical during dramatic shifts in hormone changes and I'm surprised you weren't warned beforehand. Biological systems are incredibly resilient and can endure dramatic changes, but the rate of change is key. This is why most hormone based pharmaceuticals are designed with some form of titering up/down so you can…

I believe I get it, but I'm doing the same and not effectively communicating either. I think the key is that we are both trying to understand one another's point of view. As background what prompted me to make the original post was largely due me being asked to open up a series of talks on personal finance and I've been…

What model? You can adjust the sensitivity to mitigate against this.

I run a lot at night and carry a small light in a vest pocket and a headlamp. I picked up a belt with flashing red lights, but don't use it as much when I run as the traffic is much slower. LEDs are crazy powerful now and there are so many options - red lights, white, dimmers, etc.

Rejecting willpower and implementing discipline. Not sure exactly what my hangup was in regards to food - a combination of buying into high/low metabolism and confirmation bias.

Reset your sweet. Take a few weeks without any sweeteners, or severely limit your intake. Many Americans note how sweet our food is after living abroad for months. The same is said for salt. Sugar and salt are cheap and easy ways to extend shelf life and minimize bacterial contamination.

To state that there can't possibly be any other benefits is false. The golden mean is always somewhere in the middle of absolutes. A simple provable benefit is that it establishes a routine as a stimulus for change. It helps establish discipline. Statements like these come from people with a basic misunderstanding of…

Well, no. You can't stop. Not alone anyway. None of us can. Addicts do so as a means of escape. Look at it this way - you did this during a difficult time to survive, but now realizing that this isn't enough. You need and deserve more, so take the steps needed to earn more. I agree with the other sentiments regarding AA or…

There isn't much black and white - it's all shades of grey. I analyze behavior with a few governing concepts - one being "Facta non veba" or Deeds not words. Watch what people do over what they say. I note the behavior of the tech executives and how they ban or severly restrict their kid's screen time. I would imagine the…

When I bruised my heel I swam. When I injured my knee I did the same and focused on arms to propel me forward. Not sure if this is an option for you, but there are also arm recumbent cycles at several gyms as well, just prioritize rest for now and heal up.

To shed some light on this prediabetes isn't a diagnosis - it's a risk factor. Speak with your medical professional about precisely what to do and why. There are far too many variables at play for any recommendations over a site with little to no information.

The bolded cannot be understated. In evaluating the difference between the successful and unsuccessful execution is one of the key qualities. When questioned nearly everyone has some idea of what to do, but the majority over analyze and wait until perfection rather than execute and progress. Seek progress, not perfection…

Depending on the amount of loss and the rate of loss wrinkle appearance can be dramatic. Another benefit to a 1lb/week rate or moderate loss. This typicallly is more apparent in the nasolabial fold region and eyes - the areas with thin tissue and heavy vasculature, but also diminishes over time. Hydration certainly helps…

Intermittent fasting can be effective for those manging caloric intake. From the objective evidence most are susceptible to snacking during "downtime" when they are not as engaged, so implementing a deliberate fast during these times can be very effective. Outside of that there aren't many benefits that are demonstrable.

I realize that amongst all topics finance is of the utmost taboo, so thanks for everyone for being respectful. 20 years of financial counseling and I find people will talk about their sex life easier than about money. Yet another behavior creating disparity. A key talking past point is the very defition of wealth. I see…

Challenging I agree - as I'm asking the next question - Why? While I appreciate the reference, no. More about separating myth from reality. Identifying real roadblocks and developing strategies to remove them as opposed to being mired in the status quo. I note the comparison to one believing that as their parents were…

It wasn't that the last few pounds weren't worth it, but I reevaluated and decided to change my goals as I wasn't really concerned with the arbitrary number, but performance. Happy that I did as my strength has improved.

I would recommend low calorie diets only if they are prescribed and under observation from medical professionals. Bring quesions - loads of questions and see how they stack up. Never accept an answer simply due to letters behind one's name. Log your data into MFP and keep a journal on how you feel, how you sleep, anything…

With relatively little to lose set a realistic goal of .5lb/week loss. Absolutely budget for treats. As anything you implement will be long term and sustainable, implementing absurd changes brings nothing but unnecessary suffering. Five years at maintenance and I focus on those trigger foods - everyone is different, but…

I've come to realize that those who accept that life is suffering have a better track record than those who don't. If my suffering amounts to 10 mins/day to maintain a healthy weight, so be it. Easy day.

I didn't mean literally never achieving a goal, but talking to people who are on "the elevator going down" they often see themselves in this state. Despite many achievements in the past the lack of current goal accomplishments feels like an insurmountable hill which causes a terminal cascade of failure, depression, more…

Fascintating - linguistics from a anthropological sense or communications? My favorite anthropologist professor specialiled in linguistics. On an individual level is this important though? Especially considering the climate and push towards diversity of experience I find the most value in promoting what you personally…

I was thinking the same thing. There's also the guys who rather than work on their sales pitch just go for volume - the telemarketing strategy.

Beer. This marks the end of mankind and the start of the apocyclypse.

Whoosh! Oh yeah - if you perform you gotta eat to perform!

I had something similar happen with a weird passive aggressive guy at the gym who would meander about and sit at a machine next to someone, then begin criticizing something about how they were lifting wrong, using the wrong weight, etc. I stopped him abruptly when he came by my son. Handle it directly - elevate to gym…

Education is a wonderful disinfectant for commercially driven woo. I agree - the knowledge gained since joining MFP makes commercial claims laughable. While sitting in a waiting room I noted another woman laughing at the same - we started talking and she was a calorie counter as well and had lost over 100 lbs.
-
I opted for the HULU option with commercials and the kid's response to this is hilarious. They completely tune out and walk away or moan and complain "What is this?!" "Now I'm not going to buy your product!"

So we're keeping television programming and discussing banning advertisements? Seems logical.

Wealth remains an output of behavior, in this case learned behavior. I'm not sure what I'm supposed to be considering. We live in a family economy, so yes - children exhibiting positive learned behavior are going to have a more positive output. The more I think about this I wonder why two critical elements - financial and…
