Great post on a very important topic. I found out my 11 yr old was skipping meals for a time because (she said) someone told her she was fat. As a swimmer, she's spends 4 nights/wk, 6 mo./year in the pool, and is pretty active in the off season. It scared me to death.

I'm curious about the answer, too. I am always under on protein, and when I do come close to goal, I'm way over on fat. I can only eat so much chicken.....

I agree with your mom. "If you always do what you've always done, you'll always get what you've always gotten". I know that is incredibly cliche but also quite honest. If I'm reading your statement correctly, you don't WANT to eat healthy and you don't WANT to exercise. Some people just don't. And that is fine. You are the…

Cheers (And Slainte, Iechyd da, Salute, Prost, et.al) to you!!! Best of luck!!!

Great advice. And #3) People who talk badly about people at the gym aren't worth the worry. We're all there to better ourselves in whatever way matters most to us.
-
I used to feel anxious about the gym. I still do, occasionally, if I'm moving on to something I didn't normally do. I stuck with treadmills and 'what I knew' for far too long because of that. But after a few years, I just stopped worrying (mostly) about what others might think and just went for it. I moved to weight…

I can certainly see your success. Great job!! I think we all struggle with noticing it on ourselves, in the mirror. We see ourselves everyday. But you must see it in the photos. Rely on those. Cheers to you. You're inspiring.

My biggest pet peeve is "ladies cut" which I now know is code for THESE ARE CHILDRENS' SIZES. When I buy t-shirts or knit tops in department stores, I usually wear a medium. One year, we ordered logo shirts at work. In the 'ladies cut", I learned that if I wanted to wear the shirt while simultaneously breathing air, I…

I left WW after "fruit-gate", too. I never understood not counting points for fruit. Also, I started gaining weight on their Pts. Plus system. For me, I don't think that was a coincidence. On here, I log fruits and veg, but I admit that I usually do not log lettuce/leafy greens, and I don't log veg like tomato, green…

Thank you.

I was 1.75 Mich Ultras over my goal today. Beer always kills me. I consider that my binge for the weekend. It is actually probably a pretty safe binge since I'm a craft beer (read: high calorie) lover. I probably could have (and have!) done worse damage. But, that is what I consider binge. Food? That I can handle.

I have many motivators. On a fully medical level, I run a risk for Type II Diabetes due to having had Gestational Diabetes (with both of my kids). I need to keep weight in check. On a vanity level, I bought a really cute pair pair a pants last summer that fit when I paid for them, but not by the time I went to wear them. I…

I haven't had a full blah week, but I have at least one or two blah days every week. Sadly for me, they don't start out blah, but I love my beer and I ultimately turn great days into blahs. I think everyone goes off the rails during their 'journeys". No worries. Pick yourself up as best you can, get back on the wagon, so…

Oooh, can I play? I looove craft beer ( a little too much!) I scour the internet for the calories of my fav's the same as I do food. And, I've been known to skip a meal here or there to make room. I'd like to add a small sampling from my stock that fall under the 200 cal mark. Thirsty Dog Brewing- Irish Setter Red,…

Good luck to you. I'm a northern gal. We are used to snow, though we've been spoiled in my area the last few years. Sadly looks like this latest storm will hit and we'll get the 6-12 in., on top of the 8 in. from last Wed. and 2 in from Sun. (and the freezing cold that wouldn't let any of it melt!). We're not un-used to…

Haven't read the comments yet so sorry if I'm repeating, but,,,,,I used to feel self conscious at the gym (for other reasons.....don't how this machine works, are people laughing at how weak I am, etc), but I say just go. Most people are just doing their own thing. I also believe that those who do notice those of us who…

I've been trying to give it up for the time being. I love beer. Especially good, craft beer. I have always leaned toward binge drinker, but up until about 2 years ago, it never mattered. I only drank if my husband and I went out somewhere. With little kids, that was rare. I never drank at home, and we usually never even…

I have many of the same questions. I always feel like I'm doing things too randomly at the gym and not really making any progress. I always do cardio first to warm up. After that, I try to do any machine I can get near, and generally (based on amount of time I have) use the same ones every day I can. There is probably a…

I remember the Core program. I preferred Flex for more accountability. (And MFP for even more accountability.) I just think they didn't really think through the "free fruit" option as well as they could have. Either way, I could never bash the entire system. It did work for me once. But I have also read all those reviews…

Good for you. I have never been able to jog, let alone run. In Jr. high, a group of us decided we'd go for a jog. We all lasted about 5 minutes and then walked to a local burger joint to play PacMan. (I'm 44 :-) To keep a long story short, I decided to try a little jog on the treadmill for the New Year. First time, I…

Most of the vegetables have been free on several version of the program, except starchier, sugarier ones like carrots?, corn, certain types of squash, etc. Those you had to count. Why they suddenly decided to make fruit AND veggies free, I'll never understand. Some of those veg still don't fall into the free category, so…

Yep. That is the case. Now, they do try to tell people that they don't mean you should gorge yourself on fruit and veg, but then they also state that "fruits and veg don't make people fat". Kind of a mixed message. And let's face it, most people stop listening at "FREE". Many people who were on the program prior to this…

I'll chime in. I have done WW in the past and had both success and failure. The first time, I lost some weight and put it right back on. I tried again after my son was born and I was at my highest weight, ever. I lost 25 lbs and became a Lifetime Member. But I started to let things slide when it came to counting points.…

I'm late to this party and I have not read through the comments (I'm probably repeating), but I can tell you that I did earn an A.A.S., in Nutrition a few moons ago (okay, 1990). It was a 2.5 year program and required that I sit state boards for certification. Though I haven't practiced in that field in many years, let my…

I have been drinking diet soda (and lots of it--I am a junkie!!) for over 20 years. Currently, I make my own with a Sodastream. My initial reason for switching to diet way back was the calories, and that still holds true for me today. I'll have an occasional regular soda, but my taste preference is for diet. If I am going…

100% American, by way of great/grandparents from Wales (early 1900's- grandfather), Ireland (very late 1800's- great grandparents), Germany (late 1800's-great-grandparents) and England (early 1600's--very soon after the Mayflower- several greats-grandparents). Total mutt. But I identify most with my Welsh/Irish heritage.…

Could be something you ate or, if you haven't 'gone' within the last 24 hours, that'll do it, too. And it will continue until you do 'go".

I drink beer. Usually high calorie craft beer. I would probably lose weight faster if I didn't, but I love my beer! I usually only drink it once or twice a week, but I have been known to have several depending on the social occasion. I keep meaning to challenge myself to stay away from it for a few weeks to see how much…

I'm in this boat, as well. Over the last five years I have gone from 163 (lbs.) to 135, up to 140, then 147, back down to 140, then 137, back up to 142, and up again to 145--steady for a bit, then up to 150! I lost the original weight on WW using the old plan. The new plan does not work for me. Or, more truthfully, I just…

I feel the need to add: "It is what it is." Yeah, what else would it be? Pocketbook Panties Brooch Slacks And I have to agree with whomever mentioned "Dr. Oz". When is he going off the air?
