• Edited to add: I just searched a little and found that there is a separate disorder called atypical anorexia, where the patient has a normal or above normal body weight. Perhaps this is Tess's diagnosis - she doesn't actually say that she has anorexia nervosa.
Actually, that is what she did say:
• I am not a follower of this sort of thing normally, I am aware that Demi Lovato has had her struggles and I empathize with her. As the mother of a teenage girl, this particular issue has come up in my home, so I felt like chiming in. To me, she sounded like a spoiled, entitled brat. I thought it was inappropriate to use a…
• I was born prior to there being a Chickenpox vaccine. I was exposed to them repeatedly as a child in elementary school, and even into Jr. High. I never got it. I never thought much about it after that. Flash forward to my 23rd birthday, the one I spent at home very, very ill with chickenpox and a horrible…
• I'd agree with this. I was a teenager in the mid-late 80's. In my area (a small city), we had 3 local high schools so most walked everyday. No one in my particular school rode a bus. The schools all had multiple floors (all 1920's buildings), so up and down we went. We walked or rode bikes to practices, part-time jobs,…
• I think we, as a society, use the term "addiction" as a catch-all for all sorts of behaviors, primarily those that involve an over-indulgence of something. I think the term that applies more appropriately here is "dependence". The two are not interchangeable. While addiction doesn't exist without dependence, dependence…
• I think this is spot on. Society has and is changing and it is a constant struggle to keep up. And, technology is both the blessing and the curse on this, and many other, issues. We are all super busy. We want things, need things, and do things, fast. Park close to the store/office because ain't nobody got time for this;…
• Congratulations! That's fantastic. Keep up the good work.
• I love beer too much to give it up, but I have cut my craft beer intake (when I do drink it, I stick to the lower ABV based on calories, sorta) but I still enjoy light beer and wine. Can't quite quit it altogether. Congrats on going 9 months without. If you don't truly enjoy it that much, the calories are just not worth…
• I love cabbage soup. Yes, really, lol. It's homemade & I use the cabbage in place of noodles simply to keep calories lower so I can eat it as more of an 'afternoon snack' in cold weather). I planned on adding chicken to it next time I make it to bulk it up, but I bet turkey would be a nice addition, too. :-)
• I will log. But, I'm not going away for the holiday this year, so that will be much easier and will make more sense. If I really want something, I'll have it, but I will log. Next year, when I do go to see extended family, no guarantees. :)
• I have to basically force myself (unless really hot, really thirsty, a bit dehydrated, or post exercise) to drink plain water. I've gotten better about it, as long as I have a straw, but I can't imagine trying to choke down this stuff. I say this without having tried it, but I'm happy to revert to my elementary school,…
• Northeast PA aka NEPA
• I love poutine! My only saving grace is I'm American and unless the restaurant did their research, poutine is usually not done quite right. Fattening, either way, but not worth the calories if not proper.
• Certain potato chip brands (not all, thankfully) can not pass over my door step: Cape Cod Salt & Vinegar, any and all Dirty Chip brand, Middleswarth - especially BBQ. I also am powerless against Extreme Cheddar Gold Fish Crackers, several local pizzas (primarily fried Sicilian and local, Old Forge style), and buffalo…
• Yup! Hoping to lose 30 by summer.
• Wow. Really? That's what you took away from the above comments?
•
Where does your weight go when you lose weight? (short answer: you breath it out)
I have been wondering why I always seem to 'find' the lost weight of those around me. Now I know. I'm breathing it IN. :D All joking aside, I found your write up on sodium fascinating. I have never worried much about sodium…
• Actually you can see weekly totals on MFP. On the website it is under Reports, and on the app it is under Nutrition. You can see your totals for each day, and the average for the week. I use that feature a lot as some days I may go over and other I may be a bit under. It helps me to see if I have some leeway to work in a…
• Hi All. Today is day 13 for me. My goal is 30 days (maybe more. We'll see). For the first time in a while I heard that little voice say "One won't hurt. Go ahead." I've been ignoring 'her' because I don't like her. And, I'd like to win this little competition with myself. I would also like to hear how others avoid the urge.
• Hi, just joined. I'm currently doing a 30 day 'dry' run. I'm on day 11. I decided to do this because beer, particularly high calorie craft beer, has been one of the culprits assisting me to gain 20 lbs over the last 2-3 years. That was all the weight (plus a few) that I had lost previously and managed to keep off for over…
• lborchert@familyfour.org Feel free to add me. :)
• Hi Charley, I'll send you an add. I never take my Fitbit off, but achieving my own step goals isn't always enough to keep me motivated. It always helps to have friends. :) Lisa
• I'm in the same boat. It has become a tough battle. For anyone who is interested, there already is a nice group for those near and post menopause in the forums. You should be able to find it under the Groups tab, or through a search. There's lots of great info & understanding in there. :)
• I could use some friends for challenges, etc. as well. lborchert@familyfour.org
• I have a few peeves, since I work with an official member of the food police. She always has a few pearls of diet and health wisdom on hand. 1. "The bone broth diet is great. And it is from an expert." Personally, if you want to drink that, have at it. Me? Not so much. I'd rather drink my Diet Coke. 2. Diet soda- this…
• If you (or anyone) comes across or knows of anything that can help with libido, please let me know before I end up divorced. :)
• Yes, I'm going to keep an eye on this. I don't want to cut carbs if I don't have to because they make me happy, but I accept the reality that I may HAVE to. :'( I follow up with her in 5 weeks so I am more likely to 'behave' because of that. I'm hoping that will be ample time to see where I need to be for now. I'm sure it…
• I just saw a nutritionist that my doctor referred me to. I'm not sure if I am happy or sad that I didn't hear anything I didn't already know and just wasn't putting into practice. She didn't see anything wrong with the types of food I normally eat (the ones I eat when I'm trying not to create more problems, ha!) and…
• I'm starting over, too. I let myself really slip for a while and now its time to pay the piper. Slow and steady. Feel free to add me if you like.
