  • 88 this morning. I seem to hit 88, 5 out of 7 days a week. Sometimes I wonder if my meter is stuck. lol
  • Sure it does. I use that method daily. What you missed in the second half of that sentence is, it's not as simple. For example, time and time again members say they have fast food because it fits in their daily calories. Or having a slice of cake, etc. For a diabetic, I can't say "I have 500 calories left, I'm having 2…
  • To the OP: There is a sub forum for diabetics that may be more useful. As you can see from the myriad of replies, the concept of calories in, calories out, or fitting it into your daily macros/micros isn't so simple for a diabetic. The fact that your husband is already on 3 medications is very concerning. The amount of…
  • Shhh...it's how I trick myself.
  • So inspiring! I wish you continued success. :)
  • If we're using documentaries as motivation tools, I suggest "Forks Over Knives" any day of the week. Juicing for me is a fun treat. Like, once a week I like to juice up some fun vegetables. But that's what it is...for fun and something different.
  • I have/had an eating disorder. It wasn't until I found a wonderful psychologist who specialized in those with eating disorders did I discover past demons lurking in my inner soul were the culprit behind why I was self-sabotaging myself. I'm not saying everyone needs to see a shrink, but I think deep down inside there are…
  • If you want the feeling of being cleansed, pick up a bottle of magnesium citrate (found at any drug store). Just clear your schedule for the next 5-6 hours after you drink it. And have extra toilet paper and a charged phone or a new book to read. I promise, you will feel very cleaned out. ;) But yes, your body does its own…
  • Wonderful OP. I think it's a good reminder to read the phrase "take ownership". I have found the food pushers tend not to be in shape or health conscious. I chalk it up to their own lack of control and having someone else eat cake with them validates their own choices. Being a Type 2 diabetic, sometimes all I have to say…
  • To the OP: are you being medicated by your family doctor or an endocrinologist? Quite a few family doctors are stuck in 1990's diabetes education. I would recommend seeing an endocrinologist who's current with today's research and see if you can get off those injections. That seems really odd to be injecting with such…
  • Like everyone else, I'm not fond of the new forum but I'm here.
  • Nice job TelJanin!
  • I am Type 2. I've lost 40 pounds since diagnosis, I test daily and have non-daibetic numbers. I exercise 5 days a week. The biggest thing I remember each day is diabetes never takes a day off. I'm sorry to hear your father is reluctant to change his life around. Unfortunately, when that happens, things spiral out of…
  • I think you may have answered your question in your first post...you're not as strict as you used to be.
  • I've noticed it changes for me. For example, If I go to sleep between 10-11pm and wake up at 6:30am, I have my best numbers. However, the later I go to sleep and wake up at 6:30am it'll be higher. Also, the later I sleep in the higher my numbers will be.
  • I think it may be a little foolish to suggest the government and big industry are not culpable in the war on obesity. Proclaiming personal responsibility is painting with a broad brush. Yes, we are all responsible for our own lives (and our children's) but we don't live in a padded room without outside influences. It…
  • I'm watching 10 Things I Hate About You without shame or guilt. Yes, I like cheesy movies from days gone by. Lol.
  • Before encouraging the OP to drink Pepsi, it might be good for him to have his fasting blood glucose and a1c checked. If he has been eating and drinking so poorly for so long and there is a possible chance of diabetes in his generational bloodline, telling him to chug that Pepsi isn't sound advice. If you're looking for an…
  • Once a week. Weighing daily would drive me up the wall, personally.
  • It appears the commute to the gym and the associated tasks that go along with it are what's making it a chore. If you can swing it, drop the gym membership and take up power walking, running, or cycling and do strength training at home. As for me, being diabetic, I have no choice but to exercise. I got back into cycling…
  • I stopped giving myself cheat days or rewarding goals with food. Why should I reward myself for doing what I should've been doing all along...by eating mass amounts of stuff I really shouldn't be eating? Instead I do non-food rewards like going to a movie or downloading an album off iTunes. If I eat a burger, I eat a…
  • I was going to suggest this or another type of group meeting or even talking to a therapist. The mental stronghold food has over some of us can be more tougher than counting calories. In my case, therapy uncovered some very painful memories that I was hiding with food. As hard it was at first to face these memories, I am…
  • Sugar can be a mental ball and chain. Try cutting a little bit at a time. For times when water is cutting it, I enjoy La Croix flavored sparkling water. And to echo the poster above me, you don't need to spend money on a gym. Get outside and walk. The fresh air does good for your mind and you can see new things everyday.

  • This is the best time to date. Everyone needs a date for New Years. :) If I started dating someone now and it got serious, I would involve my date in peripheral gatherings with family but not the close ones like Christmas mornings, etc. As for presents to each other, a small gift. It really depends on where the…
  • Take Nyquil in the pill form. There's no sugar in it.
  • That is really good news. If you keep doing what you're doing, I think you may be under that 7.0 in January. :)
