  • That's not good news, that's FANTASTIC news!
  • It's a good thing I never said to restrict calories. :) I just said to not eat fast food. Big difference. If you notice I even said to add extra oil, salt, or make burgers at home.
  • You don't want fast food. You want fat, salt, and high fructose corn syrup because that's what your body and mind are used to. I'm going to go against the many posts saying it's ok. It's NOT ok. That's enabling. The only way to get off fast food is to stop eating it. If you're craving those sensations, then follow what…
  • Diabetes is very finicky so most of us T2's all have varied nuances in our treatment from figuring out how we react to the foods we eat. Same thing with our sugars after exercise. For instance, I know that I can eat a protein with 3g of sugar 2 hours before cycling and after an hour of cycling I'm usually at 75-80. I would…
  • Steel cut oats with a half cup of blueberries. That's it. No added sugars (aside from what comes from the blueberries). I also do a half cup of egg whites with one tablespoon of salsa over top. I don't view oatmeal as a weight loss food but rather as a general health food. There are many benefits in plain oatmeal but I…
  • I had a turkey sandwich today minus the bread (turkey with lettuce and tomato rolled up) and didn't have any issues. I think it was definitely the bread as that was the only difference. Good thing is now I know. :)
  • I forgot one more thing which my therapist suggested (i.e. ordered): no more food rewards when I met goals. We have a tendency to reward dieting goals with splurging or treating ourselves. I had to rewire my brain that I shouldn't reward myself for something I should be doing all along. Instead, my reward is a CD download…
  • I wish you the best of luck! While there's no one size fits all method to this, here's a few simple things that helped me initially. I lost 30 pounds in 3 months and have a new goal of another 30 pounds. Maybe a few of these tips can help: 1- No added sugar. Ever. No sugar substitutes. Nothing. Nada. I get my sweet fill…
  • Bragg's apple cider vinegar and olive oil (1 part cider to 3 parts olive oil). Sometimes I'll add a teaspoon of stone ground mustard.
  • I'm guessing it's some kind of 1,000 calorie iced coffee mixture you'd get from your coffee shop. *sigh* I miss iced caramel coffee machiattos.
  • That's awesome! I was riding the local bike path and there were all shapes and sizes riding. I smiled because it was so awesome knowing that nobody cared what you looked like, all that mattered was we were all out there getting healthy.

  • I keep the same breakfast because I like it and it's safe. For lunch and dinner I rotate from 3 entrees for each meal.
  • Hey-o! Was heading down a dangerous path of emotional eating to cope with stress. Now, it's my time to fight back and take back my life. Always interested in new friends who share the same goals of being our healthiest. Feel free to add!
  • DawnyB I think everyone feels/felt the way you are feeling right now and it bites the big one. I'm am newly diagnosed as well (almost 5 months) and remember sitting in the parking lot of the grocery store nearly crying after spending two hours reading labels and realizing everything I thought was ok to eat is not. I…
  • I use Diabetes Connect which is cloud based. It primarily tracks your glucose but you can add in meals, weight, carb intake, etc. What I like is you can view your accumulated readings in graph, statistic layouts. It'll also give you your average glucose readings for 2, 4, 6 week increments as well as a projected A1c (not…
  • It's definitely hard. I've been single for 5 years. For the last 3 years I was traveling so much it didn't feel like there was ever a good time to develop anything substantial. Now my life has changed for the good so I'm definitely looking.
  • Hi! I'm Tom. I recently retired from the military (hate saying the word retired but that's what they call it) and am a full time student in the Philadelphia, PA area. I'm outgoing so always up for meeting new friends and sharing life's experiences.
  • Hello everyone- I am a recently diagnosed T2 (April 2014). My father had T2 and lost both of his feet due to complications and went years before being diagnosed. Deep down inside I knew this was coming for me but living in denial seemed like a better fix than making changes. I was diagnosed after my retirement discharge…

  • I choose sugar (small amounts) over chemical sweeteners for my health. There are studies showing artificial sweeteners increase hunger cravings. Also, while it may not spike your blood sugar, it is beginning to show that artificial sweeteners raise triglycerides which leads to metabolic syndrome (which is an indicator of…
  • I just retired in June with 23 years of service split between the Army and Coast Guard. I was in awesome shape in the Army due to the mandatory PT. The Coast Guard takes a more personal initiative approach, although more standardized fitness at the unit level is taking place due the amount of sedentary youth joining. In…

  • Saw this site mentioned on a bike forum. An hour later here I am. I love goals and challenges so thought I'd join this thread to keep me accountable and to cheer others on. Goal for August is 300 miles (but secretly hoping for closer to 400). Aug 2: 18.3 miles @ 1:15:45
